Trotz resigns

Recommended Posts

Trotz apparently had a below the market two- year extension which would have paid him another $300K per season to 1.8M.

Wasn't sure which team's page this should go on, given how great he would look behind the Flyers bench.

Really? exactly how many years did it take him to win a cup ?   The topic is appropriate for the Capitals forum btw.

Is Trotz the first coach of the Seattle no-names?

Possibly, it would make a splash, wouldn't it?  The Islanders still are looking for a head coach.   Whichever team hires Trotz they will need to pay more $$$$$ as Coaches such as Quennville and Babcock make $5-6 M.  The given extension from the Caps was only for $1.8M.  -- A lot of negotiating room.

WTF washington

The article points out that under the terms of his contract, winning the Cup triggered an automatic two-year extension with a $300K raise on his $1.5M salary to $1.8M as a 19-year NHL coach with a Cup on his pedigree.

For comparison's sake, first-time NHL coach Dave Hakstol is making $2M a year and he has yet to get out of the first round of the playoffs...

I heard the Caps are currently in talks to see if they can persuade Claude Julien to walk away from the Habs job as they are scrambling to find the next Uncle Fester lookalike coach! (E4)

Wasn't Mike Keenan the last guy who won it all and walked away??? Or does my memory not serve me justice??

Edit: He didn't just walk away from hockey just the Rangers and signed with the Blues...

Did Keenan retire? Or did the KHL call him?

On May 13, 2013 Keenan signed a contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of KHL. On April 30, 2014 Keenan's Metallurg team won the KHL championship with a game seven victory over HC Lev Praha. In winning the team's first Gagarin Cup, Keenan became both the first North American coach to win a KHL championship and the first coach to win both the Gagarin Cup and the Stanley Cup. On October 17, 2015, Keenan was fired by Magnitogorsk.

On March 16, 2017, Keenan was announced as the new head coach of HC Kunlun Red Star, the KHL's first Chinese based team. After a disappointing start to the 2017-18 season, Keenan was fired by Kunlun Red Star on December 3, 2017.

Sounds like he should come back to the N.H.L. Arizona could use his expertise?!

Thanks for the info!

Trotz wanted a Babcock-esque deal.  Washington's front office and Trotz didn't get along and they already were positioning to replace him no matter the outcome.  IMO, Trotz knew he wasn't going to be back so he left on his own accord instead of drawing it out any longer than it needed to be.  This is more on Washington IMO than the coach...
