hf101
To no real surprise, the Panthers have named Alexandar Barkov to be their 10th Captain the remainder of their leadership group will be announced at a later date. "He's our best player on and off the ice," general manager Dale Tallon said. "His work ethic is second to none and he's only 23-years-old." Barkov led the Panthers with 78 points (27 goals, 51 assists) in 79 games last season. He finished third in voting for the Lady Byng Trophy behind forwards William Karlsson of the Vegas Golden Knights and Ryan O'Reilly, then with the Buffalo Sabres. It should be an exciting year for the Panthers as I think they will be in the mix for a playoff spot this season.
Hockey-78
@hf101 A good post! A couple of thoughts: 1) Barkov is their franchise player so in that respect naming him makes sense. On the other hand, he's not the most vocal and I wouldn't say he oozes charisma. Being the best player doesn't necessarily qualify you to be the best captain candidate. Well, we'll see. 2) The Panthers are loaded with high end offensive talents. One would thought they'd be in for a playoff spot but doesn't look too promising in the beginning. Boughner as the coach, meh...
