Yet more issues holding back LeBreton flats development

To be blunt, having the team in a central location is crucial, it makes it easier to get crowds and be a part of the city as a whole. One example I can give is the Formula One race in Australia. For a long time it was in Adelaide, and it was a street circuit, taking in a chunk of the city's east end. In the late 90s Melbourne won a bid for the event and it was moved there, where it is in a park nowhere near the city. As a result the excitement about motor sports that hit Adelaide for the F1 (and now does for the V8 race that takes that slot) doesn't exist in Melbourne and the government has to subsidise it an absurd amount. Another example is the renovation of Adelaide Oval and moving AFL games there from AAMI Stadium, which has been absurdly successful (though I personally dislike the government footing the bill for it).

I hope it goes ahead, I really do. I hope that it's not a matter of Melnyk just not having the money to pay for his share of the investment, as many have speculated.
