Trade Giroux F away

Recommended Posts

There's nothing wrong with highlight clips from the World Juniors, but try not to get TOO worked up and talk about how you can be more open to trading a player the likes of Claude Giroux. At that age, forwards are much closer to being NHL ready than are blueliners, because most defensemen develop by sundial.

Pretty sure I've seen Patrick try that one. :D

Yeah that looks like it requires some effort to pull off...haven't seen Patrick think about effort like that....waiting.

We'll see by the time Farabee arrives from college Claude will be 33.

Look at the hate he is already getting.

Weal sent to Arizona for Dman Jacob Graves and a sixth round draft pick in 2019

Don't know much about Graves though

Giroux is not part of the problem, he is a position of strength. Do a better job in adding to a strength, not remove a strength to add questionable variables to replace a strength.

That is childish nonsensical foolishness. If a player is causing a problem in the locker room to other team mates, trade him. These blanket statements "trade him" are getting old. Put a name as his replacement, or possible "player options or picks."

That mentality got us to get rid of Bob. And we lost that trade. Bob was better than what we had going forward. We could of had a tandem of Bob, Stolarz/Lyon/Neuvy or/Elliot as our goalies as of now.

The Kimo/Coburn/Streit trades where mostly players that we received good value for.

They weren't major pieces, those type of trades work.

The JVR signing is a specific piece you get to help a team, but not part of the main course. He needs a Center who can dish it to him, a solid 3C, and he would give us solid scoring depth.

If Captaincy is truly part of the problem, remove the C altogether and not have a C or A on this team for now. Hang it up on the team locker room rafter and after next season whoever wants to claim the C go and grab it and defend for it. The Captain can choose his Alts.

What we need to do is bring up the kids, NAK, (maybe Voroby), Myers, Morin maybe Freider...

Hextall traded Rinaldo for a 3rd. It's not a big deal because Weal was basically a borderline NHLer who wasn't helping the Flyers...but it's highly unlikely Fletcher gets anything close to that for a 6th.

Well none of those looked like what Farabee did, but ok.

I don't think Bob is the actual answer in goal, just that at worse we would go from a low "F" to a "D+", "C+/B-" in goal.

One thing Hexy did pretty well at was squeezing out higher picks for our excess pieces.

I know many want to get a high lottery pick and also play the prospects.

We need to BirdBox Gudas in practice and hope he'll injure a few players in practice, to bring up the minors.

I think Hart is playing well given what he has in front of him. I see no reason so far why he wouldn't be pencilled in as our starter next season. Sure he's not lighting the world on fire, but he's doing well enough to be in the NHL. Let him learn here instead of vs much weaker competition in the A.

Hart is learning on the job, actually thinking about it, being that the defense is not playing as a unit, is probably making Hart learn from a not so great circumstance to hone his skills better. When a better defensive pair suits up in front of him, he would of gone through the school of hard knocks and make him a better goalie, having to go the extra mile to make that save. At least that is what the hope is for during these tumultuous times.

Sometimes playing with not so great, equipment/situations improves your game, that when you have better equipment/situations the task becomes easier. Once again that is what is hoped for.

Come on... Giroux has 46 points in 42 games, and has a plus/minus of 0 on a team which is a collective -101.

In case you haven't noticed...Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid...those guys all went 1st overall. Giroux didn't. Not even close. He's actually closer to a 2nd rounder. So instead of your constant Giroux is suk diatribe, how about giving the guy credit for being in the same conversation as those guys even though he was picked NOWHERE NEAR WHERE THEY WERE!

It's not the only reason we make fun of you.    I'd move Voracek and Simmonds long before Giroux.

Ya, cause it's been a whole...7 or 8 months since he finished SECOND OVERALL in scoring. This team needs scoring, in case you haven't watched the 7 games they've been shutout this year, or the 14 they scored ONE goal. If someone offered Philly a no brainer package sure I'd take it. But Giroux is far from the guy that HAS to go.

Not just "at" you, Howie, but I think the open question isn't whether he's one of the "problems."   From where I sit, it's "is he one of the solutions?"   And the corollary: is that "solution" a question of building around him (again) or using a potential haul from a trade to set a new foundation?   I think Giroux is a fantastic self-motivator. That's where "the Shift" came from. I don't know that he's a great motivator for others - and don't think he's shown much of it beyond "by example." Not sure you can "learn" that at the NHL level, either.   I missed* the Blues game last night, but when you have Jackson and Jonesey calling out players (albeit "off camera") and the team playing a listless style that doesn't even put pressure on a rookie goalie making his first NHL start, that's got to reflect somewhat on the leadership of the squad, does it not?     Retain $2M and call it a day. At $6.25M he's probably about right.       * OK, I"m lying, I didn't miss it at all

Honestly, I would be willing to do that deal.      Your entire post is pretty spot on in my opinion.   I have read elsewhere that G should have his letter removed.  I think you (1) either keep him on the roster or (2) look to see if there is a contender willing to pay up for his services.  As you said, G is a fantastic hockey player and someone that will always be one of my favorites but not sure his "let the play do the talking" approach is something this team needs right now.   There are a lot of fragile minds right now and I think the young kids need a vocal leader.   Not sure what the answer is and I am not sure he is the answer to navigate this dumpster fire.   As I said previously there is not a single player on this team that I would say is untouchable outside of Hart.   And I want Hart back in the AHL ASAP.   I want him nowhere near this group of hockey mental midgets.
