OccamsRazor
I would pump the brakes on getting so excited about him. The talent in the KHL isn't there anymore. Just like 18 year old Eeli Tolvanen had a hat trick in his first two games in the KHL. Broke the 18 year old record....and finished with 19 goals 36 points in 49 games. Comes to the AHL this year and no where the same....just 4 goals in 26 games. Hell maybe the AHL is a tougher league than the KHL now. He'll be 24 at the start of the season what is he scared to come over and prove himself?
musky
SOROKIN POSTS EIGHTH SHUTOUT: Ilya Sorokin recorded his eighth shutout of the season last week, making 27 saves in a 3-0 win over Metallurg Magnitogorsk on Jan. 15. The shutout was Sorokin's second consecutive clean sheet after recording a 19-save shutout against Traktor on Jan. 11. Overall, CSKA Moscow have recorded four consecutive shutouts between Sorokin and Lars Johansson. Sorokin, the Islanders' 2014 third-round pick, improved to 23-5-3 this season with a 1.17 goals-against average, a .942 save percentage and eight shutouts. Sorokin's career-high for shutouts is 10. Sorokin was named to the KHL All-Star Game, which took place this past week, but the goalie pulled out due to a unspecified injury, according to the KHL's official website. OccamsRazor
Ilya Samsonov has seen how hard it is to dominate in the once powerful KHL and then to struggle in a better league like the AHL. KHL 2015-16 2.04 925% 2016-17 2.13 936% 2017-18 2.31 926% AHL 2018-19 3.14 878% Welcome to the real world. The competition here just got real. We'll see how Sorokin does if he ever decides to come over. Till then meh.
musky
Richard T. 2h ago What do you think happens with Sorokin ? Does he come over this year or next? Arthur Staple STAFF 2h ago @Richard T. Certainly seems like he wants to come over after this KHL season, but we shall see.
hf101
Lehner and Griess are signed through next year, but Lehner's contract ends after the 19-20 season, so that provides an excellent opportunity for Sorokin to start the year in the AHL next year and getting some ice-time in the NHL as per injury needs. I think that this is an ideal situation for luring Sorokin to coming over next season especially if his KHL contract is over at the end of this season. Yeah he needs to adjust and prove himself just look at how the Capitals top prospect Samsonov dominated the KHL and has struggled this year in the AHL. The AHL has surpassed the KHL as a the better league. KHL is now where guys go who can't find a gig in the AHL.

In my opinion, KHL is taking a second world position between NHL and AHL. Usually adaption (language, culture, home sick, loneliness) from KHL into NHL and AHL is not an easy part for many prospects across the ocean. For some of them it takes a while to show anything good out of them, and sometimes never. Besides Islander's prospect Sorokin SCKA team also have 2 our Wild's prospects - Kirill Kaprizov and Andrei Svetlakov. Wish to see Sorokin as our Wild goalie prospect, who definitely has a talent.
