Game 56: Penguins at Flyers; 2/11/19 @ 7

Hello:

I haven't gotten a betting line on this matchup; maybe that reflects the reality that hard numbers may not mean much in this series.  We beat them in December. That said, on paper they are a team that scores more and has much better PP/PK numbers.

This is probably the biggest game of Scott Gordon's tenure; perhaps the season so far.  It is a big test for the "new-and-improved" Flyers.

This is a must win for the Flyers they need to win this to close within 4 points.of them.

They can ill afford to lose to any teams right now till they can catch up really.

Every point matters than one they let slip away the other night hurts now.

Blue Jackets and Canes have been winning which ain't helping.

And the Sabres are right there too buddy.  So do not sell them short.  A win today ties us with the big bad Penguins

That is all you have is goaltending.  Its not enough.  And you think you will just go right past the Sabres?  I am not so sure. You  have to realize Columbus and Montreal are the teams to really catch.  And Pittsburgh.  We are closer to doing it than the Flyers.  We beat the Flyers too.  And you got us on one bad period.

Guess you have been  paying attention the Flyers are the hottest team in the NHL and they will get a chance to catch those teams.

All they have to do is keep winning Penguins are next.

No one is worried about the Sabres.

Actually nobody is worried about the Flyers either.  If you think they are real contenders you are crazy. We had a 10 game streak.  It ended.  You had an 8 game streak.  It ended.  Now you have to play the big boys.  No Anaheim with backup goalie

And Philly is?  The Sabres are going plenty somewhere very soon.  The pieces are coming together. The Flyers have a young hot goalie.  What about what is in front of him?  Crap

Do you honestly think the Flyers have a player as good as Eichel or Skinner?  Or a d man as good as Ristolianen or Dahlin?

Yeah name them.  And a guy as good as Eichel?  No way in hell

Claude Giroux

Sean Couturier

Ivan Provorov

Shayne Gostisbehere

Eichel has never score more than 25 goals and 64 points in a season.

So it's not he has accomplished anything to make him so great.

Now your excuses please...

Big game tonight.

FlusteredGrayAsianconstablebutterfly-size_restricted.gif

4 points behind the Sabres, 5 behind the Canes and 6 behind the Penguins who sit in last Wild card spot.

But Rangers are sitting 1 point behind the Flyers so no room for era. Tonight is a must win. The hottest team in the NHL must stay hot.

Justin Bailey will wear #27.

Just win....

The Flyers might be getting the Pens at a good time.  Budgstad might not be fully integrated. Oleksiak always found a way to make winning plays against them. He has made several key keeps that have led to goals. I haven't been impressed with their defense when I've watched them either.  Of course big rivalry game  59, 87, 71, 58 and 81 can't be counted out-72 always finds a way to hurt the Flyers.

I think the Pens could be playing their best hockey soon,  maybe the Flyers are catching them before they get going.

Well that is about to end. And nobody in the NHL would trade Eichel for any of those guys on that list.

Well, this will be an historic game no matter the outcome.

If the Flyers win, Carter Hart will make history by being the only goalie under 21 to have a 9 game winning streak.

If the Flyers lose, the Pens will be part of trivia forever as the team that put an end to Hart's record-tying winning streak.

Either way, though, these are the games the Flyers need to win if they want to make the playoffs. So are they contenders or pretenders?

We;ll find out tonight.

I haven't realized that Matt Murray who had been out injured will be making his first start tonight.

Not sure if had a conditioning stint in the AHL not.

No dirty Malkenstein for the game either.

Sure be a very good game.

Zero reason for the Flyers to not come out ready to go.

I hope they play a full 60 minute game.

They do that I like their chances.

Oh and stay out the box too. Play smart.

Pens going through a bit of a rough patch.  Is Murray starting or are we getting the backup?

Have to imagine the Pens would be geared up to get well against their rival.
