Game 56: Penguins at Flyers; 2/11/19 @ 7

Recommended Posts

Flyers playing well enough to make this meeting a worthy watch.
A few weeks ago, this could have easily been just a bump in the road for the Pens.

Looking forward to this one.

Thank God there's a Philly broadcast. Sorry to anyone who has to suffer with Regis and Co. Who wants to do a shot of Captain Morgan every time Regis mentions Kristofer Letang?😁

Late hit by Simmonds....refs let it go.
Let's see if they are consistent about that.

I've seen interference called for less than what Wayne did.

Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE it if the refs just let guys finish checks, but we all know how the officiating can be at times.

Wow...
Flyers PP robbed on a missed call by the officials...AWFULLY fast whistle on a puck Matt Murray NEVER had control of!!
Flyers scored, but refs said no goal

I don't like whiny fans, but I can't blame fans for booing the refs on that one.

If this game turns into a one goal loss for Philly......oh my...

That was horrible.

Not so sure about "making sure the Pens win the game", but that fast whistle was most DEFINITELY %$#@ed up!

Flyers aren't being shy about putting pucks to the net.... 32-14 SOG advantage for Philly as I type this....almost done with the 2nd.
Should have been a 2-1 game at this point though.

Worst part about that fast whistle...now the refs may further screw up the game by trying to find ways to "make up" the call.
Trumped up calls could be coming, which will anger players, which may lead to a cluster$#@! of a game rather than the good hard hockey they have been playing to this point.

Atrocious early whistle on what should have been a goal for the Flyers, but even though we're outshooting the Penguins by quite a bit, the increase in quality of these chances has to be there.

Wow Flyers just can't capitalize on their chances dear Gawd it's hard to watch.

Well, Flyers actually DID...refs just took it from them with a bogus whistle.

Matt Murray giving up some big rebounds......I will say, if the Flyers can do a better job getting to the front of the net, they can put in some ugly ones.
That was the kind of goal they did get after all.....before the refs took it away.

Murray is playing well...real well on the ranged shots, but he is having difficulty with the close up stuff...but no Flyers yet can really take advantage.
If I see this, the coaching staff surely can.
There needs to be some talk about that in the dressing room.

Fast whistles be damned....

Yes I agree. That was a quick whistle did he lose sight of it

Yeah I know but I'm trying to keep my blood pressure in check.

They missed several good shots and then to go 0 for 3 on the powerplay.

It's not all on that play.

Murray's first game back and he already has 37 saves not enough quality shots.

Now they go into the 3rd needing 2 goals.

Not the game I imagined.

Yeah you guys are headed in the wrong direction we beat you guys last time we played.   We have goaltending now.   Sabres are least of my worries right now.

It will be interesting to see what the DoPS does.  JVR got a $5K fine for a high stick similar to that.  The difference would be the intent.  Malkin had a malicious intent.  Not sure JVR had that kind of intent.

I think they played well.  Probably one of the best games I've seen from them all year regardless of the score.   If Hart doesn't lose track of the first goal and the ref doesn't blow the whistle on the Flyers goal it's a completely different game.   They didn't get the bounces but they outplayed the Pens.      The next 3 games are Wild and Wings x2.   Without 6 points Fletch has to start selling.     Then what happens in the next 10 games determines the season.   If they can put together another 8-9 wins in a row, they will continue to have a chance at the wild card spot.    Nothing less than 16 out of 20 points in the next 10 though.     I think this is where the character of the team needs to come through if they want to stay together.

I agree with you that the next 10 games pretty much determine the season - though I'm not sure it's just about character. Getting another 8-9 wins out of 10 is pretty unsustainable hockey. They had a great streak - but don't forget it came IMMEDIATELY after an 0-6-2 stretch. They could very well get in the same funk now.   9-1-1 looks less impressive when it's combined with the previous streak - 9-7-3. That's losing more games than you win.   Bottom line, it sucks losing to the Pens. Like, seriously. I'm so done with that freaking team. And it sucks that, OF COURSE, they are the ones to deny Hart an NHL record.    But even if the playoffs are really remote, there are some encouraging signs from the young core that Hextall has drafted and is finally in the NHL.  We have ELEVEN guys under 23 on this team (this includes Myers and Bailey), which is the most in the NHL. Our goalie is 20. Our 3C is 20. Our #1D just turned 22 a few weeks ago. His partner is also 22.   This is what growing pains look like.

You can't bench press the puck into the net. - Captain Mike   In all honesty, though, Sanheim has been MUCH better defensively than Ghost in my eyes. Of course, both still need work - most of the team does. And last night was not Sanheim's night... but as a general rule, I've found Sanheim to much more sound in his own end.
