Now what? CBJ year in review

Recommended Posts

PRESEASON OUTLOOK Two straight years of making the playoffs and losing in the first round to the eventual Cup Champion the Jackets were hoping to make it not just into the playoffs but to do some damage once in.

FINAL RECORD 47 31-4 98 points Stunned the Hockey world by sweeping the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round, lost in six tough games to the Bruins in the second round.

HIGH POINT OF THE YEAR Trade deadlines come and go but this one may be remembered for quite some time, faced with the prospect of losing Bob and Bread rumors were swirling every which way, would the Jackets buy, sell or trade? They made a ballsy move, adding Duchene, Dzingle, McQuaid and Kincaid, four other free agents to go with their big two. Part Deux was of the high point of the year was the four game dismantling of the regular season champion Lightning.

LOW POINT OF THE YEAR Bob was suspended for violating team policy, that was a low, in the playoffs they had Boston on the ropes up 2 games to 1 before Boston caught fire and steamrolled them.

WHAT WENT RIGHT Bobrovsky had a slow start but caught fire down the stretch and had a hell of a series shutting down the Bolts. Seth Jones was deserving to be discussed among the best defenders in the game. Duchene was another guy with a history of sucking in the playoffs who caught fire when the games counted. Atkinson was a top goal scorer, Panarin set a team record for points. David Savard had his best year in the last four. PLD and Josh Anderson are two mountain size kid forwards who play hard all the time loving to hit and both contribute dagger goals at big times of the game. Jenner was a beast, playing hard up and down the lines never complaining about his role. Bjorgstand had 23 goals. Foligno was his usual middle six hard hitting self. Werenski was bad at the beginning of the year but came on strong. Alexandre Texier came out of nowhere to be a playoff force.

WHAT WENT WRONG Korpisalo had some good games but quite a few bad ones as well. Dzingel was ok after the trade but non existent in the playoffs. Wennberg continues to fall off the cliff talent up the ying yang but he never has put it together. Dubinsky continues to steal his paycheck, his game has deserted him. Ryan Murray continues to make you wonder how he was the second pick in the draft in his draft year.

FREE AGENTS Lets see... Bob and Bread are almost certainly goners with Florida their likely destination. Supposedly Duchene is going to be offered insane money from Arizona. Dzingel, McQuaid, Kincaid  are all UFA's as well. Making it worse, Werenski, Murray, Sedlak, Korpisalo and Milano will all want paid as RFA's.

OFFSEASON QUESTION MARKS More than any team. Can they resign any of their free agents? If they resign Duchene it will cost thm another first round pick but he is the most likely of the big three to stay. They have the least amount of draft picks of anyone, rumor is they are shopping Murray among others for picks in this years draft. Can they make deals? If they lose all the free agents they will have tons of money to spend, can they/will they be players in free agency?

First time ever making it out of the first round but at a huge cost, where this team will be next year is anyones guess.

Well how does it feel to have your 2nd favorite team lose after beating the big bad Tampa Lightning?  I really expected them to win the East after that.  They had a good shot and if they did not hit that post in game 5, they might have beaten Boston.  They should be all right

How does it feel? It sucks Donkey ball in Hell is how it feels, but at least if feels better than any team that didn't even make the playoffs or who got knocked outin the first round.

I dont know if they will be alright, Panarin, Bobrovsky and Duchene are 3 of their top six players and all are likely to leave as free agents. I just hope that they can manage to keep one of htem and possibly add a shiny new piece or two.
