@NHLFlyers: BREAKING: The #Flyers have acquired defenseman Justin Braun from San Jose in exchange for a second-round pick in this year's draft (41st overall) and third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

My initial thought is yikes.

HHHHhhhhhhmmmmmm....

...so once they get Ivan and Sanheim inked it will give them 8 D men.

Yep someone is about to be dealt for a forward piece....

Justin Braun's a really good defensemen. Doesn't get the attention with all the star D San Jose has. I like this trade.

Don't know too much about him. But interesting read from 2018

On the surface I do too.

They just added another righty and 600 games of experience and didn't give up a roster player.

So wonder which guy plays where?

I have a feeling Ghost is gone for a winger. Toronto perhaps.

Provorov/Niskanen

Sanheim/Braun

Ghost/Myers

Morin/Hagg

That is impressive I say even if it's only on paper.

But I think Hagg or someone gets dealt.

Him or Hagg. Hard to say. The phone is on fire.

If ghost is traded:

Provo braun

Sanheim niskanen

Morin/haag myers

If ghost stays:

Provo ghost

Sanheim braun

Niskanen myers

I'm guessing that means he's done upgrading the defense?

Provorov/Niskanen

Sanheim/Braun

Hagg or Ghost/Myers

Morin and Schmaltz as 7th/8th

Someone on D will be dealt for a forward or goalie, I'd say.

A solid two way type who can help either Ivan or Sanheim.

Only on the books for next year for 3.8 mill.

I would say Ghost. After Provo and Sanheim get new deals that going to be a lot of money in defensemen.

Can't see Hagg playing over Myers.

Good article. Look at that picture of him at the bottom, look at his top (L) hand - that, my friends, is how you pass a puck.

He would certainly bring the biggest return.

Another very under-the-radar move that didn't cost much. I don't know much about Braun, but the consensus seems to be very good.

Early critics are fixating on the -14 last year, but he's a career plus player. Plus, you can chalk half or most of those minuses last year to horrific goaltending.

Could be.

This will help Niskanen not take all the pressure raising this young Pride...

I like this better than a Subban trade.

Wonder which forward they are targeting?

Anyone's guess. Certainly are not sitting back and waiting...somewhere Hextall is smashing stuff...

I like this move too. This is a good hockey player coming to our team.  Niskanen and now Braun are good players in addition to whatever leadership they bring to the room.  My feeling is the veteran players have been upgraded significantly at the cost of a veteran player, a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick. The Flyers have the resources to do this now.  In 2 years if Fletcher is still raiding the future for today, I'll worry. Today the cupboards are full to the point of ove

Outside looking in, any any way you look at it, Braud/Niskanen paired with the kids is a thousand times better than Gudas/McDonald-period. Any day of the week-twice on Sunday. And signing Hayes (according to reports) brings in a fantastic two way player who takes the pressure off Patrick and makes the Flyers harder to play against at both ends of the ice. Three aggressive moves, none by themselves Earth shattering but as a whole make your boys a lot harder to play against on a nightly basis.

Good move. Out goes Gudas and MacDonald. In comes Braun and Niskanen. I would say that's an upgrade and they don't get that much older.

At least there is a theme to Fletch's moves: he's creating a mobile, puck-moving D and building out from there. Good. How you win.

Let me dial this back a little bit, because it's coming off as if I hate the move. On its own, I don't. Braun offers little in the way of offense, but his defensive metrics are solid. I think a 2nd and next year's third are maybe a tad bit of an overpayment for a defensive defenseman who's a one-rear rental, but it's not horrible (aside from killing certain offer sheet options). Of course, I would have preferred to see if that 2nd could have been in some sort of package for Spurgeon, but I digre
