      Yikes! That's just crazy. And unnecessary in many ways.   As a kid I always had the best skates, new. My family wasn't wealthy but my dad understood that a proper fitting (at least 1, more likely 1-2, sizes smaller than shoe size!) and good quality skate was critical. So I had them.   But as an adult I came to learn that a pair of good used ones was just as good. I have not bought new skates since I was 20. I buy the best used pair I can find.
