Wild names Bill Guerin as General Manager

(cough)  We had Jennings Trophy winners once @IllaZilla, but yea...nothing else to write home about unless you want to toss in Jacques Lemaire's Jack Adams' Award too.  Either way, I don't think we'll see miracles from Guerin, not this season at least.

I'm not expecting miracles from Guerin. Not sure he can do much with all the NMC's handed out to 30+ year old players. But we'll see. Maybe Zucker and Staal can rebound. Maybe they'll finally let "Captain America II" take over the 2C. Maybe Donato will return to scoring instead of passing. Maybe Fiala will stop playing hot potato with the puck and become that "gamebreaker". Maybe Nico Sturm will be a pleasant surprise. I know, lots of maybes, but at some point this team has got to let the young guys start leading.

But the Wild is starting to remind me of the 1980's California Angels. A team where older name players went to get their last big paycheck...

Guerin has a huge challenge to deal with. An environment with both physical and psychic wellbeing is needed to get back that blue-collar, underdog fighting spirit, but at the same time the old men retirement home needs to be put in order, and very likely nothing of significance can be done if the bad apples can't be thrown away.

And that’s the thing. No one on the Wild has ever won anything (except the Masterton).  I think it will be very interesting to see who wins in this Tug of War: the GM or the C and the A’s...

But wait - there's a #1 retired in the rafters - isn't that "winning"?? 🤣🤣

No, that's "Marketing Gimmickry 101..."

For an or-gan-EYE-ZAY-shun that has done countless lame things - THAT takes the cake.

Well, especially when there was a goaltender in I think their first season that was allowed to wear the number 1...Zac Bierk?

It should be taken down and reintroduced as a keeper's number

There's no doubt.

They should replace the "1" with a "$". That'd make more sense...

Oh no. It should almost be “$$”. Wild fans spend  TONS of cash on the team...

Will he be called "Wild Bill"?

I like this hire better than the other names that were floating around out there.. hopefully he can convey that message and if certain players don't listen they're shipped out or benched no matter what their price tag is. The locker room has needed someone to come in and clear out the cancerous players for a long while now and it needs to happen no matter if it sets the team back a few years or not. I'd rather be patient and see a proper rebuild that takes a handful of years than sit through mor

Interesting article!    Guerin is in an unusually powerful position for a first time NHL GM.     Leipold must be smart enough to realize that he can't possibly risk angering or thwarting  virtually any Guerin decision short of a long term player buyout.  A second GM fiasco within a short time frame would likely ruin the brand (arguably already teetering a bit).

My favorite quote from Russo's article was:   "This is why Guerin has said one of his first missions will be to talk in that locker room and do his best to convey to the players that it’s critical they all pull on the same rope, that they put the team in front of himself. "   I can't wait to see how that plays out...

Wild Bill Guerin and the shootdown at OK Retirement Home... I like that! Let's hope Leipold looks the other way.
