Flyers lines today:

Giroux-Couturier-Konecny

Lindblom-Hayes-Voracek

JVR-Laughton-Farabee

Raffl-Bunnaman-Twarynski

Pitlick and Stewart alternated in different lines

Defense

Provorov-Sanheim

Niskanen-Hagg

Gostisbehere-Braun

Morin-Myers

Those pairs seem strange.

I don't hate Provo-Sanheim. I'm not saying it'll work, but I can see why it would be tried. Not sure how I feel about Niskanen-Hagg though. But hey, he's the coach! And it's the pre-season, so why not?

It was just practice though who knows. But AV himself prefers balance and righty with a lefty and that isn't it.

Unless someone is already dealing with an injury or something. I'm guess we'll know soon enough.

From our favourite maternal basement tenant -

Per a source, the Jets have two trades they are deciding between.

“The Jets will make a trade for a defenseman with either Buffalo or Philly,” the source continued, “If Buffalo it could happen at any time, but Philly wouldn’t happen until at least the Flyers return from Europe since the player is over there.”

How certain is my source?

“99%”

Almost never does a source go all in like this..

Who is in play? Not getting that info...yet .

Myers, I guess...would be my choice to go, but he's got a lot of very good upside, too. Tough call. I know he's a great Top 50 prospect, but you've got to give to get.

"IF" Myers .... who would be coming the other way?  Mind you the Flyers have slightly less than 2 million in Cap Space.

Laine, but I understand we would have to move another player besides Myers, one from the big club, maybe Raffl.

A few things...

I think there's a very good chance the Flyers *do* trade a defenseman. And Winnipeg makes a lot of sense because they are in need of NHL defensemen.

Unless it's for someone that significantly moves the needle (e.g. Laine or Connor), I don't think the Flyers would want a roster player in return.

So in that scenario, I'm guessing the defenseman we move is either Hagg or Morin for a draft pick or B prospect. Hagg will fetch more.

I don't imagine the Flyers will make a major roster move this early, so this makes more sense to me.

I would think The Jets would demand Sanheim and something else.. if Patrick wasnt hurt , they might take Patrick and Meyers.

They might want that-but I'd never let those two go for a meh effort guy.

This is what's made sense to me all offseason, too. Jets need defensemen, even moreso now with Buff likely not returning. The Flyers don't have the cap space to take back significant salary. And after their top-end talent, there's not much that Winnipeg has that really makes sense for the Flyers to send salary back in order to acquire - not that the Jets are going to want to move those guys anyway. So moving Hagg, who's cheap, young, and has played in the NHL, makes sense - assuming Winnipeg values Hagg.

I would never trade Meyers , a 6ft 5 ,righthanded defenseman with his skill is worth keeping. If anything , I would consider Ghost for Laine, both had incredible seasons  a few years ago and both are coming off subpar performances last year, I think it's a fair trade for both sides. If the Jets trade with Buffalo, it will be Ristolianen for Laine. Haag is not exactly a replacement for Trouba, not sure the Jets want him and at best we get a second round pick for him. The Jets are looking for  top 3 dman, not  #6. If we want Laine ,its gotta be Ghost,  they are not giving up Laine for Haag, but I can see Laine for Risto and a pick for Haag, they do need 2 defenseman if Buf is not coming back.

For what it's worth per Bill M.

Projected lineups (subject to change)

FLYERS

28 Claude Giroux - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
23 Oskar Lindblom- 13 Kevin Hayes - 93 Jake Voracek
25 James van Riemsdyk - 21 Scott Laughton - 49 Joel Farabee
12 Michael Raffl - 82 Connor Bunnaman - 81 Carsen Twarynski

9 Ivan Provorov - 6 Travis Sanheim
53 Shayne Gostisbehere - 61 Justin Braun
8 Robert Hägg - 15 Matt Niskanen
55 Sam Morin - 5 Phil Myers

79 Carter Hart
37 Brian Elliott

It would suck to lose this one.

Someone was advocating trading for Ho-Sang during the offseason.

I wouldn't cry if the Flyers wanted to put in a claim. He has one year left on his ELC at less than 900k. I get the questions about his work ethic and smarts, but a calculated risk to see if a waiver claim wakes him up really doesn't hurt the team. And if he wakes up? It's almost the definition of no risk, high reward.

I don't think we can assume that he is not returning. In fact, I'm now assuming he will be returning. I don't know where the "reportedly contemplating retirement" line originally came from - ok it came from "sources" in the original Sept 18th story.

There are (of course) rumors that it's a marital thing.

Can we move Bunnaman to the top line just so we can call it the KGB line?
