The youth movement on both squads makes this interesting.  I hope our youth is better.

I originally posted the game at 7 PM; just saw it is at 7:30.  My apologies.

Devils have already given up 12 goals over the last two games so i am hoping that is just the cure for the Flyer's big guns to get on the scoreboard.

I would sure hate to lose the home opener to this rival before heading on the road with guys also struggling to score.

Something has to give....they have no choice!

Dear lawd i sure hope this isn't because they are planning on a bad season...a rage room???

@radoran

I think @ruxpin might need one of these installed in his house....sure hope they won't need it tonight.

What that segment needed was Teen-girl Mojo to really bust some **** up.

This young lady is a novice and apologetic breaker of things, one can tell... Teen-girl Mojo would have been el kabonging that guitar off the TV in zero seconds flat.

exhibit A as to why comedy is hard.

This almost worked for me, where was gritty with the step in to show how "it's " done ?

I would visit the rage room. since I hate, I HATE...

speaking of hating, I think I might actually stigmata bleed when I see Wayne Simmonds wear a goddamned Devils sweater, jesus, I almost don't want to tune into the game because of that.  But since the Flyers only get to play one game every 14 days, I'm afraid I'll get to missing hockey,  not sure what to do...

I know, right!  Question is, will they boo Simmonds as he hopes, or cheer him as I expect!

I would love to know who plans these schedules.  I can barely make it to the end of an 8 o'clock game and we have this west coast BS already?  They hate us!

Just boo him then cheer him.

Or cheer him then boo him either is fine by me.

“Give me a couple boos,” Simmonds pleaded. “It’s only right, especially in Philadelphia. The fan base is just so passionate. To me, it would kind of be an honor to be booed. It’s crazy to say.”

That's exactly how Santa felt, despite all the negative reports to the contrary. He was honored. Love that guy.

I think some big boos followed by even louder cheering would be a pretty terrific way to honor a guy like Simmonds. It could become a new thing.

It will be interesting to see if the Devils get a return on their $5 million Simmonds salary?  I suspect that tank is empty but I don't think Ray Shero is a dodo.  Scoring aside, Simmonds is what I call a member of the Warrior Class.  He will be a good influence on the youngins.

I'm just curious: What other classes are you thinking? Are they all medieval inspired? I hope so.

Those are some of the "wenches" in the Mummer's Parade, yes. Or, as you accurately describe it, hell.

That Neanderthal Wood is taking liberties against our guys and Subban cross checked Raffl 4x . I dont see any retaliation by our soft team. Just a matter of time before Morin is on the lineup. Probaly after our guys take a few beatings from some goon.

Nice moment with Simmonds waving to the fans a minute or so into the game. Good pressure in the Devils zone early.

Alain Vigneault's Flyer mantra:
"Work hard, work smart"

Craig Berube's mantra:
"Work harder"

Hmmm....Vigneault may have one over Berube...he at least advocates 'smarter'..... and if Berube won a Cup without being smarter, I imagine the Flyers are due for two Cups in three years... :shifty:

Maybe ask Vigneault, but don't ask Chief "how". (Never gets old).

Fans, Philadelphians, Gritty, lend me your ears; I come to bury Hextall, not to praise him. The bad GMs do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones; So let it be with Hextall. The noble Brelic Hath told you Hextall damaged the franchise: If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Hextall answer’d it. Here, under leave of Brelic and the rest– For Brelic is an honourable man; So are they all, all honourable men–

Just absolute WOW on Carter Hart's performance. What a difference it makes when you have a goalie who actually stops the puck. Kudos to the PP too. They had a lot of attack zone time and it looks like they are going to be dangerous. NJ goalie kept this a game with some amazing stops himself. I almost forgot what it was like to watch an exciting hockey game. Welcome back Flyers!!!

Well, that was one helluva hockey game.   - That 2nd period was probably the most organized and dominant stretch of hockey I've seen the Flyers play in about a decade.   - As brilliant as Hart was, last night really was a complete team effort. Special teams, all lines and defense pairs. They seem to just control play at will. The 1st period was more even - probably a bit of rust, nerves, and just a feeling out process. After that it was all Philly.   - Hughes is alr

I won't indict Hextall to hell, he was not perfect, he did sign some bad NHL players while he was rebuilding the farm system and prospect pool. I don't think the half-assed rebuild was fun. I do, however, like seeing guys like Carsen Twarinski look like legit NHL players. 81 was on zero people's radar as a "youngster primed to make the NHL roster".  And here he is blowing up Norris trophy candidate PK Subban in the home opener and handcuffing the Devils goalie with his ++ shot.  That's

I missed the game, but this is the single most important takeaway. Fun and loose = winning. They have not looked fun and loose for a long, long time. And I don't mean Carter and Richards kind of fun and loose either, but on the ice.   It's funny how it all adds up: A good, confident young goalie: check A few veteran D-men: check A coach with a pedigree: check Skill, talent, found from within through the draft: check Gritty: check

No. Which is one of the reasons I re-posted the note about his achievement being the first since Steve Mason.   Franchise goalies are made by sustained excellence over time.   I'm on the bandwagon because I believe he can do it. But, like the rest of the team, he has to go out and actually do it.
