Game 3: Flyers at Canucks; 10/12/19 @ 10 PM ET

Greetings:

The O and B are mild underdogs.  As this piece notes, the Flyers have not been particularly good on Saturdays the past few seasons.

Historically, the O and B play well against Vancouver.:

I like Twarynski as much as the next Flyer fan (which is, like, not much I guess?), but just don't cross check the guy in the throatish area. Ok?  Just come in big, maybe some contact, but not a short jab to the throat area. Not yet at least.

Love the intention, love, love, love it, but execute it man. Be disciplined. Kids.

I want Farabee, Patrick and Meyers in the lineup

I don't disagree, but I am curious. In favor of whom that would need to come out?   Bunny, I guess. Twarynski?   And who?

Hagg for Myers, I imagine.

Why did he put Jake as his first shooter?  He took him off the top line and made him sit a few shifts.   Jake isn't playing well yet.   Why put him as #1?

Bad choice.

This is the way i would lay it out...

28 Claude Giroux - 13 Kevin Hayes - 93 Jakub Voracek
23 Oskar Lindblom - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
25 James van Riemsdyk - 19 Nolan Patrick - 49 Joel Farabee
12 Michael Raffl - 21 Scott Laughton - 81 Carsen Twarynski

9 Ivan Provorov - 61 Justin Braun
6 Travis Sanheim - 15 Matt Niskanen
53 Shayne Gostisbehere - 5 Phil Myers

79 Carter Hart
37 Brian Elliott

Power Play 1: Giroux, Hayes, JVR, Voracek, Gostisbehere.
Power Play 2:  Lindblom, Couturier, Konecny, Provorov, Niskanen

Scratches: 55 Sam Morin 8 Robert Hägg 18 Tyler Pitlick

I would try this first but i really want to reunite last years top line.

Because i haven't been very impressed with Jake these last 3 games I would drop him to the 3rd.

So one more game to look at that then really shake it up maybe.

28 Claude Giroux - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
25 James van Riemsdyk - 13 Kevin Hayes - 23 Oskar Lindblom

49 Joel Farabee - 19 Nolan Patrick - 93 Jakub Voracek
12 Michael Raffl - 21 Scott Laughton - 81 Carsen Twarynski

But Welinski has to get healthy so he can be sent down.

This is how i wouldn't mind see it. Jake still has issues that get on my damn nerves...and i want to get JVR going.

I knew if ol Jake showed up it wouldn't be long before he and his unimpressive effort would land him in AV's doghouse.

So hated to Simmer go after being here so long but i have said it before of the forwards left i would love to move Jake in a nice package eventually. I'm just tired of his play and he can't even score in a shootout to help. Buh bye Jake.

Very strange to see the Flyers get owned in the faceoff circle but i happened last night.

Winning only 44% not good enough.

Voracek finished with 14:30 minutes, his lowest ice time in a game since the 2015-16 season.

I keep Twarynski in the lineup over Pitlick and it's not anything Pitlick did wrong just they can use Joel speed and defensive prowess that will only get better the more he plays....and got to love the hustle!!!

And they could use his scoring touch too after he has netted his 2nd goal in his 2nd game...

Flyers can use this kid's skillset wish he could teach Jake some things...

Flyers need all the help they can get....

Still don't understand how a forward gets benched in the 3rd and is your first shooter...wish they would try JVR oreven Lindblom over Jake who just never is impressive in shootouts he never has any creativity with the puck on his stick...like this...

This isn't nothing crazy but it helps to take it seriously to try and win....

I like all of this. Make it so.

By the way, I'm not a fan of Pitlick and was irritated he got a roster spot.  But I'm starting to understand his value, at least in terms of the penalty kill.

But I'm still good with your lineup.

@OccamsRazor

I think my favorite thing about last night's game was that clearly Voracek's ice time was greatly cut.  He's too good to be on the 4th line (and paid way too much), but I'm happy V is willing to send messages to anyone and not give a crap who you are.

Voracek is clearly mailing it in. Mail him out if he's not going to play ball.

I thought Pitlick was good last night. Noticed him at least.

Agreed.  And yes on the "noticed him at least."

Unspectacular, but some sound play. I'll take that in the role he's playing.

Bench to send a message. Then put him out first to show you have faith in him.

If it doesnt work out, no ine can say you didnt try

Its 3 games in and they havent lost, picking up points in each

Isnt it a bit early to start making changes, especially when you havent lost?

Absolutely not. It's exactly when you want to make them. This is when you figure out who has playmaking chemistry, because sometime pre-season isn't enough time to figure that out.

OK. Let's start by eliminating shootouts. Bring back the tie. Oh, you don't mean those changes?

No now is when you want to make them.

Till you get em right keep mixing plenty of season left to to let them settle in but find the right mix first and it's almost there.

Seriously?

We have pretty big time players who haven't shown up yet. One who played a total of 3 minutes in the 3rd period and it was 2:59 too much.

It's very early and of course you continue to work on finding what's optimal.  Or at least figure out how to resuscitate $15M of your cap space.

And we're all enjoying that they're undefeated (in regulation) and all that, but two of the teams are a combined 0-5-3.

I'm not knocking it. Beat who you're scheduled.  But it's not as if we're operating on all cylinders and beating world class teams.

Of course at this point you continue to tweak. It's flatly a no brainer.

I'm not sure when stating the sensible and obvious made one a Philly fan, but I guess I'll take it.
