Threads for talking about specific players.
This time, we have Jean-Gabriel Pageau.

Seems the guy has been mostly a defensive specialist with the Senators since his inception in the NHL, and outside of one 43 point season, is mostly a 30'ish point type guy.
Not very impressive from a raw numbers standpoint, but seems this season, he has become one of the Senators best players.
He is still only 27 and will be a UFA this off season and carries a current cap hit of just $3.1M

Some may be inclined to think he is playing over his head with his 12 goals in 21GP so far this season, but even if he is, is there a team out there that would make a trade to Ottawa for his services?
Even as a defensive center (he is playing top C in Ottawa, probably by default, but still...), he is a danger to chip in goals from the bottom six on a deeper team...his FO numbers are good and he doesn't turn the puck over very much and is VERY opportunistic while short handed.

Is this the real JG Pageau coming through? Or is he doing a "contract year" spectacle?

I think he could really help a contender and given his impending UFA status and relatively "low" previous career numbers in goals and assists, it may not cost much to acquire him.

I love Pageau,  always have. He plays a heavy game, solid faceoff guy, very responsible in both zones with the puck, this year with Colin White bombing so badly with the first crack at the 1C role he inherited it by default playing top line minutes beside Tkachuk. I know that plus/minus is often vastly overrated BUT he is plus 16 while taking nearly two thirds of his faceoffs in theother teams zone. An underrated star IMHO.

As an aside, I had him in fantasy early but cut him in a week where Ottawa only had one game only to lose him. wish I had a do over on that one.

In his last game two days ago, he added yet another goal, this time on a breakaway where he beat Carey Price cleanly.

You know, when you said heavy game, I did leave that part of his game out...he IS quite the hitter as well, isn't he?
Over 130 hits in every season where he has either played a full season or the majority of games in a season.

Seriously....I don't see how Ottawa wouldn't find itself with a plethora of suitors for his services at the trade deadline, and if enough teams inquire about him, as I suspect they would, the resulting 'bidding war' could result in the Sens getting more for him than I initially thought they could.

Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Colorado, Edmonton... just off the top of my head teams where he would instantly fit in.

Man, I wish that one Senators fan were still around...he always had very good insights on the Sens and their players...and I think at one time he had mentioned Pageau as being a player people would need to look out for.....looks like he was right.

And as an aside to your aside, I picked up Pageau in All Stars as a replacement to an injured player about a month back....he hasn't left my lineup since.....
