WordsOfWisdom
This might be some of the worse defence I've ever seen. Check out the video at 6:41: Spezza actually twirls out of the way of the Av's forward and costs the Leafs this game. flyercanuck
Well in fairness his stick broke and he was left in a tough spot. You're also not going to win many games with ONE goal. But ya, the Leafs D (team D) sucks.
JR Ewing
I kinda feel for Spezza on this one, to be honest. His stick broke, he was headed to the bench, and then the bench hollered at him to get the puck. He jumped back over to kick it, only Rielly is now there and all that happens is that Spezza cuts him off from it. It's not like it was some pathetic attempt at defense and he did a pirouette to get out of Nichuskin's way lest he be run over.

Perhaps the right play there was to forget about the puck altogether and take the man, which would have been interference probably.

When things go wrong in the NHL, it happens quicker than a hiccup.

It looked as though he dodged out of the way of the Av's player to allow him to go by lol. Sometimes you just need to run a little interference, especially if it means preventing a breakaway. Maybe he figured it would take the Av's longer to score on a breakaway than it would on the Leafs "penalty kill".
hobie
Mostly I've enjoyed Spezza this year, his energy and productivity is what I've hoped for from him. He's 4g, 8a in 20 games off of 11:11 TOI and only -4 with a fairly steady diet of Gauthier. I think he's the perfect 4th line center for TO and I don't think he'd look outta place higher in the lineup.

I was more just frustrated at the circus that was the Leafs recent slump.
hobie
I equate Spezza with Leivo, Spezza wasn't appreciated by Dallas so he needed a change, Leivo wasn't appreciated by Babs so he needed a change. Holl looking alright now that Babs is gone.
