Game 45: Lightning at Flyers; 1/11/20 @ 7 PM

Greetings:

I'm posting early so Tropical Fruit Girl doesn't ball me out again (Smile)!

I haven't seen posted odds.  We are surprisingly close in points (Tampa 54; Flyers 52).  Tampa is 4th in the league in scoring, 9th in defense.  That tells me we need to play tight D and hope our goalie is "non-road."

LGF!

TB is a team that seems to have the flyers number. After a big win vs. Caps, I see a let down. TB 5-2, with 3 first period goals

They have heard our pleas....yes!!!!!

They can go ahead and trade Vorobyev if they can get anything for him for all i care.

I'd trade him for cold slice of pizza and a warm beer

Hell i would even throw JVR in on that just to take him off the Flyer's hands.

Man i don't remember this guy being this streaky with the Leafs (not that i even followed them).

He actually may be more useless than Jake...i mean this bum still hasn't scored a point in 2020...7 games and you and i have scored as much as he has for this club....just downright embarrassing. It's like if he isn't scoring he literally isn't doing sh it!!!

Quit your whining, any game now he's gonna pot a bunch.

Sure, we'll be up 5-1 when he does it, but what do we care? All goals are equal. As long as he scores them.

That is the sales pitch we use to Seattle....you they'll buy it??

Greetings:

Here are the odds:  No surprise; TB is a fairly heavy favorite:

https://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/tampa-bay-philadelphia-odds-january-11-2020-1162651

Their record over the last 10 versus ours is interesting.  7-3 versus 3-4-3.

About the only thing I can say is that the youngins are being given an opportunity to prove their value.  Some of the elders need to up the ante.

Will JVR finally record a point this year??? Still waiting...very big task today.

Tampa has played better of late but they have had some very real struggles this year.

This is a winnable game....just have to keep their feet moving and not get out hustled for the puck.

So is Patrick skating or working out with the team? Is he even in Philly?

They said he is skating.

Myself I would just shut him down for the year and see if that helps.

At this point he is going to be able to help this year anyway.

Bolts bring in their 9-game winning streak to Philadelphia and while I'd agree TB should be favored here, as we saw in the last game, the Flyers are, for whatever reason, a completely different, and dangerous team at home.

14-2-4 home record for the Flyers says that if the Lightning don't bring their "A" road game, Philly could end the streak.

I think special teams could play a big role in this game.
TB has one of the better PP in the entire NHL (currently ranked 2nd), however, even though the Flyer PP is middle of the pack, the Flyers ARE a top 5 team in drawing penalties for PP opportunities, so TB can't play "stupid" in this one and give Philly shots on the man advantage.

PK units..... both sport around an 82% efficiency rate. For the Flyers, I believe that is pretty much what it has been most of the season, a solid number for that unit.
For TB, 82% represents an upgrade from the 78-79% they had been in earlier in the year.

So yea, special teams is what I will be watching in this one.

Alexander Volkov in the lineup for TB.

He is a young AHL player the Bolts have been wanting to bring up, but his development has been a bit slow.
He made his NHL debut earlier in the year, but got sent back down after just four games.

He is a good sized checking forward with some offensive skill.

Tricky shot from the point for Philadelphia, but Andrei Vasilevskiy seems to be on point and made the stop.

JVR has managed to get some net front presence. Good for Phi, bad for the Lightning.
I'd like to see him kept asleep of course, but Flyer fans wanna see him do just that: bother and screen the goaltender.

No score after 1.

Bolts with some real nice pressure near the end of the period.
I will say this for the Flyers, they are doing a hell of a job getting in shooting lanes and using sticks to disrupt a lot of the TB attempts at plays and set ups.

It served Philly well during that double minor they killed off, and served them well during the Bolts zone time near period's end.

Bolts looked like they may have turned up the physical play the first period.
Will Philly respond to that? Travis Konecny certainly was fired up a bit, both after being called for the high sticking infraction and after getting rubbed out along the benches by Coburn.

He needed a stepladder, but he did get in Coby's face a bit.  :bigteeth:

Game getting a bit chippy.

Both sides looking to antagonize the other.
Yanni Gourde certainly is trying to do that to the Flyers.

Raffl with an unnecessary crosscheck on Stamkos just now.

Refs letting stuff go for now. So far, its all been 'love tapping'.
But it may escalate, especially if the game gets to where one team takes more control.

Right now, both teams are trying to stir, but doing it carefully in a 1-0 game.
