yave1964
big stunner. Washington brought in long time Bruin Chara on a one year deal for 795k (!) ashe looks to go out on top. Boston has paid lip service but truth is they moved on. Capitals a great fit. Very little else going on right now, Sheahan signed a PTO with the Sabres, could be an ok fit on the 4th line in a limited role as he can play all three forward spots with the same ineptitude. Big news in Chicago, first Nylander out for the year, then Dach now Toews out indefinitely with a mystery illness. Dreger says it may be all year. ugh. Lundqvist scheduled for open heart. Jeezus, they are dropping like flies. Ryan Callahan made it official that he hung up his skates. Thats about it so far. Yuck.
TropicalFruitGirl26
Just as in Boston, if Chara isn't asked to play like when he was 28 or 29 years old, he should fit in nicely with Washington's defense core. Even if his mobility isn't what it was (was he EVER really 'mobile'?), his freakin pteradactyl wingspan and smarts on the ice will ensure he is a problem for anyone looking to enter the Caps' defensive zone free n clear. I wonder what it will be like for Big Z to have a teammate like Tom Wilson whom he probably thought many times of punching in the face......now he's gotta stick up for him. Oh well, on the bright side, now he CAN punch Brad Marchand in the face.... 1

One thing i noticed with Washington is they now have eight true defenders which is smart, Carlson, Chara, Seigenthaler, Dillon, Schultz, Orlov, Jensen and Kempny. It makes a ton of sense with all the back to backs, a (mostly) veteran d Corp they now have the luxury of giving players nights off and keeping fresh. With the extended taxi squad it makes so much sense and I am surprised more teams havent jumped all over some of the d-men still out there, guys like Vatanen, Hutton and Hamonic and a few more are still available on the cheap.
