CreaseAndAssist
Mayhew is an AHL ringer. There are lots of guys like that who can just pile up points / goals at that level but they just can't replicate it in the NHL. Hell, even Bruce Boudreau is an example of that. He was a stud scorer for the Toronto Marlies for years but he could never really make it happen in his stints in the NHL. Part of the issue is when you're one of those fringe guys, you rarely get the ice time or opportunity they do in the AHL when they're on that team to carry the offensive workload. Yet, goaltending between the two levels are rarely the same so goals they score frequently at the AHL level just don't happen with the NHL ones. Still, its a good development league. Iowa won their most recent game against Grand Rapids. Rumpel got the start. Hunter Jones is young, but he's certainly had a penchant for giving up a few soft goals per game. I also think defensively they miss Menell big time and Hunter Warner too. Addison has looked reasonable. Connor Dewar has been more of a go-to player too and that's good to see as that shows some positive development. Brandon Duhaime got into his 1st game since being out with an injury for the last month and he was mostly invisible. Damien Giroux is really garnering rave reviews from the coaching staff and is getting used on the penalty kill, power play and just about any situation which again is a great sign for him because that's exactly what he did in major junior with Saginaw. Its a shame they don't really have one more ringer / prospect that scores enough to overcome the fact they have sub-par goaltending. Baribeau must be hurt, otherwise one would think he'd be getting the starts because Jones has looked shaky most nights. Baribeau struggled with injuries in major junior too. But if the Iowa Wild had competent goaltending and better special teams they'd probably be over .500 instead of in last place. Their penalty kill is so bad with sub par goaltending because the person that is supposed to be their best penalty killer (i.e the goalie) is the weakest link.
CreaseAndAssist
Oh and one last thing. Ryan O'Rourke has been playing pretty well for Iowa as a rookie. Not having an OHL season means he gets to push himself playing at a higher level and that's not a bad thing. He got his first goal (kind of a lucky ricochet goal) this weekend and he's getting opportunity on both the Power play and penalty kill too. Still, this team needs to stay out of the penalty box. Alexandron
Iowa Wild goaltender Hunter Jones was selected as CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending on April 4th, 2021. Alexandron
Wikipedia placed a nice link about our Minnesotan prospect defenseman Brennan Menell. It would be nice if they will include there his KHL records too. And it seems he has a solid value to attract for signing in any NHL or KHL club. Alexandron
And Iowa Wild team also was able to win tonight in OT with a score 4:3 against Grand Rapids Griffins. Connor Dewar had his 10th goal of the season in that game.
lynxrattle
The Wild is at a shared number three spot in the number of draft picks for the 2021 draft: https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/teams-hold-draft-picks-2021-trade-deadline/ Not bad! We might have quite a boat full of prospects after the draft. We could also use one or two first round picks in trading for a 1C, and we could still add some promising prospects in the draft
lynxrattle
I was listening to 10K Rinks Radio: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93aWxkeHRyYS5saWJzeW4uY29tL3Jzcw/episode/ODIyNWNmZWEtMTVkMi00Y2Q4LTg2MWQtODdlNThhMzUzMGNk?hl=en-FI&ved=2ahUKEwjk24OXwofwAhUai8MKHZReDjsQjrkEegQIIRAQ&ep=6 This guy Ryan O'Rourke was mentioned: https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/ryan-o-rourke "mean, nasty, violent -- everything one wants from a durable, robust stay-at-home defender. His battle-level is unbelievably high" If his skills are good enough for the Wild, in a few years we will have no problem in keeping the front of the net clear.
Alexandron
Thanks for mentioning Ryan O'Rourke. I did not pay attention before to this defenseman. Interesting , he is 18 y.o. and played already 24 games out of total 25 games for the Iowa Wild team. In his rookie's year he is having 6 points (1 goal;5 assists; +/- 0) in 24 played games so far. Anyway, Iowa Wild team started to show recently a pretty good records (in a last 10 games they are 7-1-2). It seems also that they are playing in a wild mode too. Team has the second highest record in penalty minutes at entire league (437) after San Diego Gulls team (444). 437 (PIM):25(games)=17.48 min per game in average. lynxrattle
If this goes on, Boldy might not be staying in the AHL for long.

Hopefully things have changed and we don't have to keep the contracts term and money so much to the forefront. Players might want to stay with the Wild in the style of Hartman. Hopefully they will think more from Boldy's development POV. If he's ready, he is. And If not, not.

While I don't think he'll get rushed into the lineup. If they do have any unforseen troubles (knock on wood) its good to know they probably have a skilled players both up front and on defense waiting to step in.
