  1. I'm Just curious, what would you like him to do? Enlighten us.

    I will

First to make oposite of first post decisions

Second I want him to start winning some games or at least motivate his players to play.

Right now every other person on this planet can make them to be the worst in the NHL with 1.47 goal per game.

  2. Thank you Berurbe for:

    1. Making this team from hard to score 3 goal to hard to even score a goal

2.Cratching Luke and Gus and playing 41 and 75

3.For not seening game turning point if it has "Hello Berube" sign (For this time around Lavi you should know atleast how to use a timeout)

4.Thank you for switching forward lines just to settle them as last years ones (last year we suck if you do not know)

5.Thank you fof bringing all that AHL coaching experience to save this season

6.Thank you for using practices to learn NHL veterans how to skate

The play of defenseman Luke Schenn last season was one of the few bright spots for a massively disappointing Philadelphia Flyers club in the lockout-shortened season. This season: Well, the Flyers are off to another terrible start and Schenn has been part of the problem rather than part of the solution.

Yesterday in New Jersey, Craig Berube sent a message to Schenn by making him a healthy scratch. For the season, his average ice time is down from last year's average of 21:51 to an average of 15:36.

What got Schenn in the doghouse? It appears that he was one on the players that Berube (who has heavily emphasized skating since taking over from Peter Laviolette) was referring to when he said there were some players who had come to camp in good muscular shape but poor skating shape. Even before he got removed from the lineup, Schenn voluntarily took extra skating after practice, which is unusual for a non-rehabbing or non-scratched player to do. Unfortunately, Schenn's on-ice play has still not come around yet to where he or the team wants it to be.

Nevertheless, I found out today that there are clubs -- Dallas is one and another Western Conference club -- who have some interest in the big, physical defenseman. The source said that "although the optics of trading Schenn after acquiring him for JVR would look terrible" and the Flyers still have Luke's brother, Brayden, on the club, "the team is worried first and foremost about improving the team, regardless of the outside optics." That makes sense, because the Flyers have never cared what anyone outside the organization thinks.

At least Schenn is doing something to helps his game. If i am not mistaken last Flyers known for doing voluntary training was Jagr and his weight vest.

My point is what does team leaders and veterans do to improve their game, beside after game comments like - "we need to play 60 minutes" and "that was our best game so far, we are getting there" ?

  4. this.  i don't know where the clearly better thing comes from, one team dominated the first, another dominated the third, and they split the second.  i mean, the flyers really did kind of run the ducks over in the first.

that said, the flyers just...unraveled in the third.  i thought b schenn was the biggest example of it, he was a force in the first, fast, smart with the puck, tenacious.  and then completely random and empty headed in the third.  scattered and ineffectual.  the whole team, but schenn seemed to really embody the fall-off.

upside, coburn and grossman (bad pass notwithstanding) had really great games.  if those two can continue that kind of play, that's a for-real second pair.  and meszaros didn't look terrible.

that third period collapse.  what is that all about?  is it still conditioning?

This game was exactly like the first game of the season against the Leafs.

    Same effort, different coach.

  5. The best news of the night, or one of the brightspots as we all have been saying, is Kimmo being hurt. He flat out cannot play anymore. Luke Schenn needs to go to. He just stands around and waits for the puck to come to him. Gus looks like a child among men. He was pushed off the puck and manhandled so many times last night it's not even funny.

It's a shame that Mason is playing well and they cannot even do **** to put up points.

Major shake will happen before next weeks game.

    L. Schenn should be one of the names that goes out.

I hope you realize that Meszaros will take his place.

  6. I agree on this^^ but one thing. When a D man is taken out of position to go after the opposing puck carrier an offensive player is supposed to fill his slot, this didn't happen and left an opposing forward alone in front of Mason. Best example of this is the Higgins goal(Vancouver Game) when Grossman left to chase one of the Sedins behind the net and nobody filled Grossman's spot and thus left Higgins all alone in front of Mason to score a quick goal. Don't fault Grossman for that, fault one of the forwards.

This is all on the offensive lines on this team, Mason has been great and our D has been pretty good most of the time.

Yes you are right and that's why i said that Center is also out of position - Giroux on Higgins goal and Talbot on Bertuzzi's

  7. well... a solid argument is that Torts has a LOT more to work with. him shuffling lines is basically the choice between steak or lobster. not losing either way.

maybe if you have one plate with sausages (our first line) and 3 other plates with beans, will be better plan mixing then to have 4 plates with beans and sausage. :)

Seriously - the Leafs are 6-2, do they have more talent then us? No way

This is the same team, even better now that used to to called The Comeback Kids and be able to win almost every game trailing into the third period.

  8. Can anyone explain to me why Kimmo is on the first PP unit? Why is Streit not playing the point? I really don't get it... Better skater... Way better shot and a better passer. It makes not sense to me...

Another one - why Schenn gets 15 min a game and Coburn 24+  :D

  9. wow.. there are still actual flyer fans who think that yelling behind the bench is good coaching? LMFAO.

No there are Flyers fans who think that yelling behind the bench is better coaching, than doing absolutely nothing and just accepting what's happening out there

Tortorella switched his top lines and that resulted 2 goals, i did not noticed any changes that our coach did during the course of the game

  10. How they showed effort? Where was the effort on the third and second goal? Alone man hangin in from of the goalie, with center and D out of position. Same type of missing assignment like the Bertuzzi goal from last game. Nothing changed

Some players like MvGinn they showed, but as team - none

And if you listen to the post-game interviews Giroux and Berube you must be thinking that we play the best hockey ever,

  11. Tortorella style coaching doesn't work anymore. Why yell when you can coach / fix problems? It didn't break overnight, and the corrections will take time. The key here is week to week progress based on the players' on-ice performance.

Maybe you are right, but Tortorella won the game.....

  12. I don't know why you hate this guy so much. I mean I get it on *some* level of course; he's easy to mock and he's only had 1 really outstanding season - no coincidence it came while he was playing with Giroux and Jagr. OTOH he was just as important as Gagne or Pronger or Richards in the 2010 run against Boston: you could say without him we don't pull off that miracle comeback.

But okay, so he's come up with some key goals over the years. Big deal, lots of guys have. But besides the goals he has that nasty edge that opposing players hate to face. Where he plays, down low in the goaltenders's face basically, that's an important strength. Maybe it doesn't show up on the scoreboard. OTOH maybe it does, just on somebody else's stat line. You rattle a goalie enough and things open up for other shooters. Also he seems to be a real good guy off the ice, in the locker room, which I know is easily downplayed - "so what we need skill!" - but you can't discount that factor completely. Too many guys don't have it. When things are going well for the Flyers (been awhile) I am sure he's great to have around but I wonder, when the team is struggling is he even more important? Maybe.

Would I like to move him for a real sniper-type forward? Absolutely - if we could find one. But I guess he's locked in with the NT (or is it NM?) clause. So ... I guess we've got him for better or worse. Does he warrant top line minutes? That's a fair question. I hope when he gets back he has to earn those minutes because I figure that top line really should be about skill more than anything. Skill=shooting skills, puck-movement, etc. I like the edge and all that Hartnell brings but he can bring that on the 3rd line just as well.

He, Briere and Leino was our best line in 2010 playoffs, so you must put that also as outstanding performance

  13. Bernier outplayed Couturier tonight, and won the game.  But as far as comparing a goalie to a center goes, the comparison needs to be revisited after a year or many, not after a single game.

But dammit, as far as tonight goes, they should have pulled that trigger.

Like every other backup goalie in the past two seasons. Every time a backup goalie gets a start in Philadelphia, we suck a beating them.

  14. @krasy

I'd have to look for the source.  But the NHL.com site loaded a different video source (yesterday maybe)  and all of the glitches are not fixed yet.  I'll assume the Flyers site is a part of that same issue.

    Thanks!

Just checked - same thing with NHL.com.

Apparently they have a problem, not me  :D
