  1. Respectfully Jack - I think you're taking that out of context. My overwhelming impression from that article was that Bernie was the main calming influence on that team. He would say sh!t like that to guys in the heat of battle to keep them loose, then "...back to [their] concentration...", as it were. Seems like he was otally calculated, not loose cannon.... ... under excruciating pressure, the “most together person” that Bobby Taylor, Parent’s Flyer backup, claims he’s ever known was Parent, which left his teammates laughing. “Take the edge off a little bit, then get back to your concentration,” said Parent. “My lord, it worked.”
  2. Literally the most hilarious dig on "Universe" yet. Well played.
  3. It's not even like "I want Bryz to be better in SO's..." as much as his timing last night. The team has been overachieving for a long time now, & has come back down to earth a little bit. Considering he's "The Guy" now between the pipes, I hoped he'd shut the door & give the rest of the team a lift. Sorry, I guess it's just hitting me now what a ludicrously huge contract to give a "basically solid" goalie (except SO's apparently!). But I guess that's more on Homer / Snider than anyone...
  4. @ aziz - thanks for ruining my day, just as I was about to come down off the wall...! You & your damn "facts", ugh...
  5. The best??? Not even...how bout at least a SINGLE save in the SO!!!!?? Realistically, for the $$$$ he makes, he should be performing like an elite goaltender. I've seen average to occasionally above average moments from him. Definitely not elite level. An average goalie saves at least one or 2 last night in the SO. Not none....
  6. @ radoran - 2 GA on the road is certainly respectable, & it will be tough foe any team to win when scoring only 2....but, I have to ask - respectfully - did you walk away satisfied with how Bryz showed in the SO last night? I think what I'm getting at is, ok, steady for 3 periods / OT, then what the hell happened?? It was almost like he had meltdown out there, which freaks me the F out considering we're stuck w/ him for the better part of the next decade...
  7. @ brelic, re: Thanks for the laugh - and reminding me how seemingly talented / promising goalies can flame out pretty hard...Remember when the Flyers ran into a wall of Lalime in '02?? Ugh. "In the playoffs, the Sens faced off with the Philadelphia Flyers and were heavy underdogs, however, Lalime was unbeatable, as he allowed only two goals as Ottawa defeated the Flyers in five games. His GAA for the series was 0.40, and he had a .985 save percentage." http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Lalime
  8. @Phlyer1 - Giggy isn't making the kind of insane $$$ Bryz is either. I bet he's counting his blessings he's still suiting up for an NHL team anymore. Not trying to compare them anyway. Yeah, Jagr, well do you think that with all the injuries now teams have a much simpler objective - to shut him down? All the success the Flyers have had over the last several weeks has a ton to do with Lavy being able to roll out 4 solid lines. Which is my whole point - there are injuries now, so the new "Franchise Goalie" needs to stand tall, put the team on his back a little bit when the goals aren't coming as easily with G out, Coots, etc. Epic fail last night, IMHO, sorry. I wanna be happy with the point on the road & all, but can't seem to get over being pissed at Bryz right now for some reason.
  9. I'm rarely a glass half full, trade 'em all, Debbie Downer type. With sports I *usually* strive to maintain objectivity - but his "performance" in the SO last night hit a nerve for some reason & sent me over the edge. That was ******* embarrassing - the Flyers had all the momentum going into OT after scoring that tying goal. Sweet SO goals by Danny B & JVR, Read had Giggy beat. Not one freaking save!!!???
  10. Ummm, what Bak? "Fire all things"? Sorry, don't copy that-?
  11. I'm pretty sure Bob would've had at least *one* of those SO chances. Especially the giant gaping 5 hole goal. Bryz was just...awkward there. Ugh.
  12. Seriously. I have been willing to give the benefit of doubt, see him steal a game or maybe at least a few by now. That unbeaten streak saw Bryz decent, adequate at most. Clearly the team has bailed him out a bunch. CO sliced & diced him in the SO, straight up. Can't blame any of those goals on bad deflections, poor coverage / backchecking, concussions, et al. That was flat out crummy goaltending at it's finest. I can't imagine Bob would be any worse at this point...?
  13. Not ONE save in the SO? REALLY??? Give the Flyers props for digging deep & tying it in the final seconds. What disrespect to Briere JVR's goals though. You gotta make at least ONE ******* save there. He looked like a gaddamn AHL goalie for chrissakes. Total disgrace!!
  14. Worst case scenario. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. NHL Network reported tonight on "On The Fly" that G's injury is "whiplash" - not a concussion...we'll see.
  16. @ brelic / "Crosby is out indefinitely" Wow. That totally blows my mind right now. I hate that little prick, but holy crap thats gotta be almost a season's worth of games missed?? Makes me even more nervous about G (& especially after reading that NYT article on Boogaard / long term effects of head injuries to athletes). Best case scenario is maybe (**shudder**) Homer & the Flyers staff are beginning to learn their lesson & are just being ultra cautious with G. Crossing fingers & praying to the hockey gods it's nothing serious...
  17. I hope so of course, FF4L - but keeping him out for a whole week is way worse than I was hoping for. Better to err on the side of caution with a head injury, certainly...
  18. Per Carchidi: http://mobile.philly.com/sports/?wss=/philly/sports&id=135449388&deliver=iphone&c=y Clearly this means he *is* experiencing concussion symptoms no matter what Homer's party line is. WTF - not good...
  19. I was at the game tonight - thought there was no way the Flyers were coming back after Bryz let in those softies. After the Ducks' 3rd goal, every Flyer on the ice was visibly deflated. That said, tons of props to the offense for keeping at it, getting a ton of shots on Hiller even when it looked like they were never going to get anything past him. Impressed with the leaders that stepped up tonight after the Pronger / JVR, etc injuries, notably Kimmo, Hartnell, Briere, Jags & of course G with the GWG in OT. Very impressed with the energy that Rinaldo & Harry Z bring in their checking roles. However have to completely (respectfully) disagree with you Oz - was not impressed with Schenn whatsoever as much as I really was hoping to be. He looked like he was getting pushed around out there & very hesitant (aside from that nice offensive rush he had that didn't actually result in a SOG). He made some very rookie-looking miscues, whereas Coutourier almost always seems to look the more seasoned player, special things happening when he's around the puck. I didn't agree with Lavvy's decision to put Schenn on the 1st PP unit - he seemed to cost them some momentum earlier on in the game with simple things like keeping the puck in at the point or giveaways. If anyone was able to stay up to watch the game back East, I am sure you could hear how many Flyers fans were there - it was insane. Even when the score was pretty bad, there were so many of us it never let up. I am sure they were feeding off of that - Giroux gave a stick away to a Fan after he scored the GWG! On a side note - it was my 5 year old daughter's first "big" hockey game (out at night with the boys), & it was funny how when the Flyers were losing she said she was bored & wanted to go home, but when they started scoring & getting back into it she got more & more excited. She was screaming "Lets Go Flyers!" late in the 3rd & in OT almost constantly - even when nobody else was! When we were walking out of Honda Center, she was totally on cloud 9 with all the Flyers fans hooting & hollering - at one point she turned to me with a giant smile & said "I'm so stoked they won Daddy!! I can't even believe I wanted to leave - I would have been so sad to miss that!!" Another Flyer Fan for life!
  20. @ Gazoo - "I love Asham..but Beagle had 2 professional fights, before that one, I think." Yeah, I wasn't trying to say that Ash took down a George Parros type or anything, it was just watching that fight & remembering how he pretty much could hold his own against almost anyone he danced with. That knockout punch *was* nasty though!
  21. @doom88 - "As good a role player as Asham was, he was dreadfully too slow for his role. He's more than a "goon"." Asham >>>>> Shelley is all I was saying. He can actually play hard nose checking hockey, put the puck in the net sometimes, & I feel he was one of those key "role players" for the Flyers during the Cup run a couple years ago. A lot more skill for the money than Shelley's *none*...
  22. Man would I love to have had him stayed in the O&B instead of letting him walk like that & then sign Shelly to that rediculously inexpicable contract. Watch Asham just absolutely tag Beagle right on the button here: http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/01/asham-ready-for-retribution-tonight-versus-caps/ Sucks even worse he has to play for Pissburgh now.
