  2. That's hilarious, though maybe a bit harsh. Fleury did have Cloutier-like numbers for the series though.
  3. I loved his nodding like an embarrassed child about whether he was going to regret the losses at home in the first two games.
  4. Actually I wouldn't want to repeat the Richards mistake. The kid's just 24. Waiting a couple years wouldn't be such a bad thing. Making Kimmo the captain until his contract expires might be a better idea, or Danny B. And I don't see the pressing need for a captain. no need to strip Pronger of it just because of his injury.
  5. Ha! Lavy as the soup nazi. that's freaking hilarious.
  6. Florida 1, Philly 2, Wash 3, Ott 4.
  7. @Polaris922 Do you understand the difference between a dirty play and a clean-but-illegal play? What Schenn did could be considered charging, and he did receive 2 minutes for it, but he did not stride into Martin, did not leap, kept his elbows down, and did not target the head. His feet left the ice at the point of contact, but it wasn't remotely close to what Neal or Torres did. There's a reason the league didn't take a 2nd look at that one. For you to make an equivalence in saying "(dirty play)" to both incidents betrays a complete lack of perspective.
  8. None of Bob or Bryz's misses up high was weaker than Timmy Thomas getting beat by that snapshot rocket from Brouwer, how did that get through??
  9. 2 afternoon games in less than 24 hours that could decide the series? I'm sure the fans are all for it, but what the hell is the NHL thinking? They're giving the players no recovery time at all!
  10. After the last game everyone (media) has been saying that Fleury is on a roll and the Flyers are in trouble and need to solve him to get past the Pens. Other than the obvious fact that yes, the Flyers need to get pucks past the net minder in order to score goals, has Fleury really been all that good? If you go from allowing 7 goals a game to 2 and 3, I suppose that's progress, but I wouldn't call it a hot streak. He did allow those 5 goals in 1st periods of the last two games (and then shut us out for the rest), but except for that one power play last game, it really wasn't his play. Game 4 was simply the Flyers not showing up. He looked terrible on that Talbot goal, but it wasn't so much that he regained his composure afterwards as the Flyers giving up at around 6-3. Last game the Flyers played a 2nd period reminiscent of game 4, with all of 5 shots for the red-hot flaming flower power to turn away. 3rd period the Pens tightened their team-d, played a 1-4, and just dumped the puck out of their zone for the whole period. So, 1) The media is so freaking boring and predictable. It's as if they have a script that they need to use whenever the opportunity presents itself. Flyers don't play defense, Bryz allows 5 goals? Guess it's time for the old goalie carousel in Philly! Wonderboy Fleury doesn't get pulled and the scoresheet finally doesn't resemble a football game? That clutch stanley cup performer has returned to form! It's just aggravating. And if the media's opinions actually have any effect on the players, why the hell are the local guys (Panaccio obviously) buying into this crap and making it seem like Lundqvist or Pekka Rinne is over there. 2) But more importantly, if we get our game together, remember how to play defense and get as physical before and after the whistle as we were in the first few games, I think we might find that Fleury's newly minted mythic status will receive a douse of reality's cold water.
  11. Unless I missed something Cherry didn't say a word about the Malkin hits. He kept talking about Torres. Ron Maclean brought them up, and we saw the Couts and Grossmann hits, but Cherry was his normal oblivious and slurring-word self.
  12. the one wrinkle was Shanny explanation that Torres' supposed one handed swing of his stick in the direction of the puck proved he knew Hossa didn't have the puck when he went at him. I thought that was pretty weak. But 5 headshot suspensions prior to this one--they needed to do something. At the same time I don't understand the massive difference between 1 and 25.
  13. But honestly, what a boring and predictable article. The Flyers goaltender has a bad game? Well it must be the same old Flyers-goaltending-problem! Burnside mentions that Bryz hasn't got the attention because Fleury's been worse. But I haven't come across too many articles talking about how historically terrible Fleury's been in this series. Gave up 3 in the first period to a flat Flyers team, and all of a sudden his problems are over? Of course Bryz needs to play better, but this game was hardly his fault despite a soft goal or two. The Flyers have decided to not play defense this series, I think sucked into an all offense shooting match with the Pens that so far we had been winning. It can't continue, obviously, but I think if the team d tightens up so will Bryz.
  14. Kennedy's hit can be seen under the hit category of the game highlights: http://video.flyers.nhl.com/videocenter/ But I remember comcast had a better shot of it last night.
  15. Any chance Kennedy or Malkin will get a hearing for this one? Both hit him high, targeting the head, and he suffered injury. I'll answer my own question with a resounding: not a chance in hell. But all the same:
  16. @terp Did Lovejoy play in game 3, or did they bench him? That attempted clear right into Couts was pretty embarrassing.
  17. He was on the receiving end of that big Schenn hit, yeah? Then again, he's also been terrible.
  18. All the more to the flyers advantage if the pens don't know who's going for them until the last minute. Though i would expect something tonight still.
  19. As someone else mentioned, the issue with Asham being a UFA at the end of the season might complicate things from an NHLPA standpoint. If he's suspended for a significant amount of games then some prospective team would have to accept paying a guy to sit in the pressbox for the first few games of the season. At the same time, this shouldn't really be an issue--Asham did what he did, he has to live with the consequences. And of course the Neal delay is tied to them sorting out the Asham ruling. No doubt in my mind that Neal's punishment has already been decided. Or maybe Shanny keeps flubbing his lines in the suspension video.
  20. Culled from the pages of twitter, had to share it: Pittsburgh's James Neal has a suspension hearing scheduled for tomorrow at 10 a.m. Although knowing him, he'll probably arrive way late.
  21. I heard the Penguins claimed him off of re-entry waivers, will start him in their next 4 games.
  22. I remember reading last night someone saying they were surprised Bylsma was already thinking about his pre-season lineups.
  23. CSNPhilly synced up Therien's comments about Crosby with the nonsense at the end of the game with Harts and Adams. It's pretty spot on. http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/videodetail?PID=7nVM2-WasVXGuXQyWC2fodQKyoxq3CumY_GW30
  24. And on the flip side, he seems at his best (as do most goalies) when he's in a rhythm. This wacky series has such strange flow and such sudden odd man rushes and defensive breakdowns it's hard to fault him for some of the mistakes.
  25. @Phillygrump I'm curious if remorse shown in those post-game interviews has an affect on further disciplinary actions. Guys who say, 'I lost my head, I don't know what I was thinking, I hope 'so and so' is alright,' ought to get more respect than Neal's f'ing, 'I thought he still had the puck but apparently, despite being an All Star, I'm completely unaware of where things are on the ice, and I tried to avoid him, I swear!' But I bet it's actually the opposite. Malicious action takes a back seat to supposedly non-malicious intent.
