  1. why? everyone is playing nicely and it's a good debate! It's a heck of a lot better than discussing the Wells Fargo ice getting top ratings. I hate when there isn't any news to discuss.
  2. MAB simply on experience. He held his own there for a while last season and with a more permanent role I could see him getting comfortable there as a regular. I'd like to see Mad Dog get some good looks as well. As for his chances, I'm not sure, just stating my desire
  3. haha, i think you're right.... god, is there no way to lose this guy? I hate to admit it, even thought he lost WAY more than he won... Riley Cote was a better enforcer than Shelley AND he had a hot wife to sell the Carnival each year for a few years there. Okay, I just heard "better enforcer" and decided I need to change my terminology there. I meant what I said but better isn't the word... more effective? He danced every game and would get guys in the box and put up an occasional win. Shelley's PIMS and games played average out to 2 PIM a game when he actually played.... as a player hired to be an enforcer, his PIMs average should be way higher than that, but yet, here they are, barely averaged a minor per game
  4. even before the Sestito signing, I was surprised Homer didn't move him for at least a low level pick or something, just to get the contract and the 1.1 off the books.
  5. thanks for the post, you and I were discussing this in another thread and I was very interested in reading up on it because it surprised me as well. I was convinced it was all due to Pronger!
  6. that and how many times i watched guys score goals in close and was close enough to do something and didn't. i didn't hate the guy or his upsides, i just saw enough of the bad stuff to really aggravate me and didn't feel like I saw enough of the good to outweigh it.
  7. yeah, he's much better in his capacity then say Shelley. at least Tom can play a little hockey. Shelley just skates in circles yapping at guys to try to get them to fight. Tom can actually agitate with his physical play and if he isn't hitting or fighting, he could potentially log some decent 4th line minutes, as opposed to the 2-4 TOI his role usually gets.
  8. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/flyers/20120710_Laughton_enters_prospects_camp_minus_microscope_that_greeted_predecessors.html bottom of the article under "Slap Shots" 1 year, 2 way deal at 600k? what's not to like?
  9. haha, I'll have to take your word for it. I can't even imagine putting that creature in my mouth let alone imagine what it tastes like I do love me some shellfish though. Crab, clam, mussel, lobster... that's what I enjoy coming from underwater.
  10. I too wouldn't mind seeing him ride off into the sunset a Flyer. How many quality players actually get to end their careers here on a high note? I'd love to see a deal with reduced money and a reduced role. Try to get his TOI down and try to use him more in specialized situations and save the regular minutes for developing the young guys. Having a player like him around, even in his degraded state could be beneficial both from a hockey stand point and a player development stand point. Has to be paid accordingly though and hopefully he'll take a smaller contract!
  11. really? I guess perception goes a long way in judging things because by looking at the play of Carle (and not looking at stats) it really did seem like Carle was playing a better game, while not driving me nuts for not playing better D. I'll have to look for that post because I'm interested in seeing those stats. Pronger was losing speed very quickly and in that I'll agree with you there as well. It was getting tough watching guys blow right by him in the transition. When he was in position, or didn't have to move very far to get into position he was strong and effective but his lack of speed was getting exploited a lot.
  12. I agree as well... though, if he is here, and his presence as of yet has been undetected, can he truly be considered "Kuato"? that implies certain behavioral traits that haven't surfaced... though i'm sure there is dread that it will. to the OP. I say "we" and I say the Flyers. I don't mind saying "we" when "talking" about the Flyers because though I am not employed by the team, they do get my time. They get my watching them on TV which helps ratings and sell tv time and advertisements which in turns helps the team sign more lucrative contracts. They also have gotten my money more directly by way of tickets and or season ticket packages that I've bought in the past. with other fans they also get support through ways of them buying merchandise or renting out time at Flyers skate zones. So for all of those reasons, I don't think it's that far off base for fans to refer to a team as "our team" or say "we" when discussing said team among fans. Then of course there's typing out posts on the forum. With the number times the phrase "the Flyers" would get typed, I also don't believe it is far off base for people to take the easy way out and refer to them as "we signed this player" or the like. To each their own though, some people get bent out of shape when people type "lol" instead of "haha" and there's only a difference of one keystroke there. and with that, I shall extend a Welcome as well!
  13. before I got to the end of your question, I was taking that to mean that you were asking if Timo was going to be able to MAKE it through the entire season or will he end up injured. The wear and tear this guy has taken just playing for the Flyers alone is enough to give me pause when thinking about a new deal. I love the player and his style, it's just tough to think future when we've literally watched him erode before our eyes. still a quality player though and I'd absolutely take him at a reduced salary for his next deal. Experience alone is enough to keep him around and I could live him playing a smaller role as long as the pay was appropriate... would he take it though?
  14. haha, so why not just eat chicken then? isn't it much easier AND cheaper? i'm not asking YOU per say, that's just my usual response whenever i hear of something strange being consumed and then having the experience being compared to consuming chicken.
  15. while I don't disagree with the fact that his talents faded, before injury when we first got him, he was far from faded. Was he Pronger of old? definitely not, I'll absolutely give you that. The guy was maybe 85% of his former self by the time we got him but he certainly brought a lot more to the table. Had a booming and accurate slapper from the blue line. Had the crease clearing ability this team needed. the leadership you talked about. had the ability to make the other guy he was paired with better (see Matt Carle), and so on. I'd take Pronger the first year we had him at that cap hit over say, retaining Carle for what he ended up getting from Tampa Bay every day of the week. yup, "you know it's sad but true" c'mon dude, this the Flyers, they develop players for OTHER teams to reap the rewards... to which I'll reiterate: "you know it's sad but true"
  16. haha, too late for that... this thread has long since been about the OP
  17. I like the moves so far. Nothing big but that can be good. All the FAs that got their deals this year I believe are ALL overpaid. 4.5 for Jagr? 5.5 for Carle? seriously? Parise and Suter practically get Crosby money? I believe it was @flyercanuck that observed in another thread that NOT getting these guys and their ridiculous rates can only be a good thing for the Flyers. All players mentioned could have been used by the Flyers, But not at the rates they went for. Just goes to show what a limited amount of FAs can do to their going rates. The Flyers have much needed cap space to work with this season. The offseason is NOT over. Trades can still happen. But so far so good. PS, I still can't believe we'll be watching Leaky this year.
  18. the league should be embarrassed with themselves. The guy plays the game within the lines for the most part but they try to make an example out of him, when more times than not there was nothing wrong with his hits. Devastating? Yes, clean? For the most part yeah. Go ahead and punish the dirty stuff but he got a lot of calls against because his name is Rinaldo and because he would hit a guy into next week. I don't even think the refs were worried about the legality of the hit, they knew they were going to make the call before the hit was made.
  19. haven't done it yet (or thought about it) but I can see that. haha I agree though, we'd have to give up a lot for Ryan, but he's still my pick over who I'd want. Maybe Homer can get creative and work it out without giving up Couts or B.Schenn (now I've done it).
