The difference-maker to me is Danny is winding down and Jake is winding up. That's what makes this contract appropriate at this time.
I think everyone is really overvaluing this guy..but we'll see..
-
@Bertmega "Voracek will out score Briere this year, mark my words." The only way Danny will outscore Voracek is if he is paired with G. Even then, going forward, Voracek will start to outscore Danny in the near future.
Jake will outscore Briere when Briere is retired..

Just to wrap my head around this, you were ok with the Weber monster offer, but a 4 year 17mm offer is bad for top line talent?
Please explain.
Weber is arguably the best dman in the game...he would elevate this team to the next level..Jake is a 2nd line winger..not really important..

I will take you up on that bet..

@orange_crush Voracek got a fair, market value contract based on present and future production. This is a real nice deal for us, you are obviously in the minority here...I don't think you have a firm concept of fair market value.
if this is fair market value then Giroux should be making at least 10 mill a year..

16g and 37a for Briere in 2012
18g and 31a for Voracek in 2012
The money is not that bad OC, look at comparable cap hits for each player. http://www.capgeek.c...589&season=2012
Giroux signed that contract before the Flyers 100% knew what they had. Besides Giroux's contract is back loaded, he'll get paid 5mm next year on the last year of his contract and I am sure he'll get a huge raise after that.
Briere had an off year last year..you can't honestly tell me you think Jake is a better goal scorer than Danny boy...

I'm just curious as to what you guys are expecting out of Couturier next season. Are we looking at a huge increase in production, say 25 goals 35 assists? Or are we looking at steady increases in production for the next 4 or 5 years until he has it figured out? I guess there are no wrong answers as no one really knows how much his game will increase, just would like to know what fellow flyers fans think are realistic numbers from this kid...
I'm expecting 15-20 goals and 25-35 assists.
Coots is more of a shutdown center man than a goal scorer..expect him to be matched up against every teams top line...he does have scoring ability but that won't be his role here..

these salaries are out of control..no wonder theres going to be a lockout...Jake has raw talent but is not at this level yet..

See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I wait for you
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you
With or without you
With or without you
Through the storm we reach the shore
You give it all but I want more
And I'm waiting for you
With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
My hands are tied
My body bruised, she's got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you
With or without you
With or without you
I can't live
With or without you

Nice deal for Voracek....he got a bit more than I thought he would, but let's face it, our second best pure offensive threat after G. Will be nice to watch him develop, 4 years takes him right into his prime.
you think Vorechek has more offensive skill than Briere?
-
wow overpaid for this guy..making more money than Giroux...what a disgrace..

Anybody know when Doan is supposed to decide where he is going to play? Do you think Philly is a realistic possibility?
Most likely the Pens will win the Doan Sweepstakes...

Now that the Weber deal has come and gone curious as to the thoughts on possibly signing PK Subban to an offer sheet.
He is a total PITA to play against, which is high praise for anyone who has played the game. He is a right handed shot who can score (14 goals in 2010-2011 season), plays physical and takes the body.
Not to mention being only 23 years old and will improve over time.
I think he is exactly what the team could use without paying Weber money. They get a right hand shot from the point, a physical guy and a guy who gets under the skin of the opponent. He is young and would fit in nicely with the young core we have now.
Right now his cap hit is about 875 - 900K. Do the Canadians match an offer of a bonus and maybe 5 mil over 5 years? If the one dimensional turnover machine Carle is worth that much then surely Subban is.
Do you further risk alienating other GM's around the league but doing another offer sheet?
What are some other posters thoughts?
I think Subban would fit in nicely in Philly.. I would take him or Carlson anyday..

@ OC and MD... when you look at this Team on paper compared to last year you have to think they are worse off than last year. If not, you are completely drinking the O&B KoolAid. That does not mean they will be but this defense does not inspire confidence. Bryz - well, enough said! Whi the hell knows... Carle leaving makes it worse and I am a hater of that turnover machine but he could eat minutes. Timmo needs less WAY less minutes to make it to the end of the season and playoffs with the hopes of having any gas in the tank.
Let's hope Luke Schenn can finally turn around his play... yes, he can hit but he was not very good the last two years. Here's hoping to benefit from a change of scenery!
I'm hopeful about Schenn but at best he's going to be a 5/6 dman..he's really nothing special...
-
I have to agree... The team lost Jagr, JVR, and Carle in exchange for Fedotenko and Luke Schenn.
So far it's just not looking good at all, and the worst part is that there is not much the Fleyrs can do to improve. They don't have many pieces to trade to improve via a trade, and there is just nobody worth getting excited about in the free agency. I am afraid the team we see now is pretty much teh team that will start the 2012-2013 season (assuming there *is* a season).
and I also we traded Bob and got Leighton which is another downgrade..imo

I am pretty much in the same boat. I am not sure what to expect out of this group. There are so many questions... How much Timonen has left in the tank? What shape is Meszaros in when he comes, considering he hasn't played since when.... February? Is MAB ready to step in and start playing a big role? Where the offense will come from? WHat to expect out of Luke Schenn?
The Flyers have been absolutely KILLED and OWNED by the Rangers last season. And now that the got Nash, I just don't see how the Flyers can even compete with them, to tell you the truth.
totally agree Maddog..the Rags totally owned us and they would have gone further in the playoffs if they had goal scoring..now that they have Nash they are legit cup contenders..
our team actually got worse
-
Are we 100% sure Pronger is finished?
-
'tain't one available.
What you see is what you get.
Honestly, I'm pretty happy with it.
this blows..what about going after John Carlson..

Nashville PredatorsVerified @PredsNHL
Shea Weber will remain in #Smashville; Preds match 14-year offer sheet on team Captain -- click here for full details
So now what is our backup plan? We obviously still need a stud dman...give Homer credit for trying..
-
As you guys said this is a great value signing..Harry Z is a decent hockey player...
-
I think either way it's going to be a win/win for both teams..Flyers acquire the stud dman to replace Pronger and Nashville will receive some legit prospects they can develop and let leave in FA when it's time..

@OccamsRazor Ya know OR, I can still remember the press conference announcing the signings of the "twin towers" Hatcher and Rathje. Clarke said it was needed to keep the huge centers in the East in check. Something felt very wrong that day....LOL!
you know if Rathje would have stayed healthy they were 2 good signings..imo..
