Can someone who watches this team regularly ( i'm in Canada and do not have center ice <thank god>) tell me what we have in Couturier?
Serious question.
Thanks

I never thought the Sixers would have more wins this season than G has goals....
Best player in the world!
Mark my words - his contract will be a disaster for the long term
No.
He will be traded and go on to have 8 consecutive 90 point campaigns

Frank S is reporting on twitter that a player is being taken to hospital on a stretcher. Got to think its downie

yes, things are a mess, and it is almost understandable that some people are jumping on the hyperbole express, but i didn't think last night was a particularly bad game. a few defensive breakdowns, giroux apparently not understanding in-zone defensive coverage, but overall things looked ok. except one area that i just don't understand: why do the flyers never have any space in the offensive zone?
the puck seems in the middle of an eternal scrum every time the flyers step across the offensive blueline. they win the scrums sometimes, but when they do, they immediately dive right back into another. after several of these, they squirt the puck out to a dman who one times the puck on net, but no one is set up in front, because all three forwards were just within 4 feet of each other against the boards. i remember seeing the same thing back when brashear and handzus and primeau were around and the team loved that grinding cycle, but...this line up really seems built for open ice posession. i know i'll take flak for it, but i even think they pass pretty ok. so why this constant get-it-against-the-wall-and-invite-the-entire-other-team-over thing again and again?
i see the remnants of laviolette's left wing lock are still hanging around, and they seemed to fall back on that more and more as the game went on..and that's designed to create scrums, so there's some of it...but every posession seems to be driven against the boards and inched around for thirty seconds. can it be that hard to change that approach?
BINGO!
i was telling a friend last week this very thing and wishing i had some funding to make a short film of it.
Flyers scrumming (as they are known to do) and cycling the puck behind the net and to the corner. Vast amounts of energy being spent. Eventually it occurs to the defenders that they could just BACK OFF and do so. They back off enough that the entire defensive team just goes for a full line change while the flyers are busy cycling the puck.

And Jerry Jones is on the sidelines of every game... Not sure why this is a big deal. A ton of owners do the same thing throughout sports.
agree

Jesus,
At this rate, is it safe to say G is playing himself off of team Canada? Man, that would be a bummer.
Feel free to speculate.
Thats all thats left for us.
-
Vinny would be the exception...however he IS 33 and has, over the past several years, had a slight decrease in point production.
And thankfully for Homer, he fell into his lap. God knows it wasnt a part on ANY plan.
-
Selfishness? He took a 1 year $1.75 million deal over a 3 year $8.25 million one. Loyal maybe, not selfish.
Hence the quotation marks. I could care less he stayed with Detroit
-
Well, I think we got Lindros on such a technicality. Maybe we can get the same arbitrator.
Who is kidding who? Homer tried his best to handcuff himself with this deal but was saved by the " selfishness" of the player.
-
Remember when we traded Richards and Carter away to make room for Bryz. Yikes.
It's the right move now but still a part of the greater mistake of Homer
-
Might as well trade all our youth away and then sign nothing but over 35 y/o's.
Fortunately for Sam, the ridiculously made up and stretched, probably hovers somewhere around the realm of what Homer would in fact do.
-
Oh.
That's right.
We weren't invited to the dance.
Carry on then
-
Yes? Clowe has gone to the Rags! Good news-- Homer somehow didnt overpay. The bad news--Zero goal scorers that play for the Rags ALWAYS light up the flyers
-
Not to undermine your post but a pig uses it nose to find truffles. A blind pig could find them all day long, really.
This is what its come to for me.
I haven't watched a game in weeks-just been getting updates via twitter. I hope they dont ruin their downward trajectory and screw up a top 5 pick.
CHeers and happy easter

WARNING: You are about to be lambasted by an acute case of "homerism". You should not take Danny's name in vain, he has kids ya know?
Not sure what having a family means for Danny but it cant be that important....he was in EUROPE for 3 months playing hockey!!!!!!!

Another positive- missed the game but got all the high (low) lights thru twitter.
Nice to see # 4 being used by players after the game. Must take a special skill to know what to do and talk about what to do, but never apply it!
-
Ok, the positives for this season:
1) The play of Vorachek and Simmonds.
2) The zero mistakes coburn makes when he's off the ice...He has REALLY improved in this area.
3) Our play for 5 MINUTES each game...if in the next CBA they would agree to only allow a Max of 5 Min of play to count over a 60 min game we would never lose!
4) Every Player after every loss knows exactly what they need to do to win...(nevermind they never apply it)
5) This spring and summer we are all going to have A LOT more free time which i intend to use in the following ways:
SPRING/SUMMER plans:
1) I'm going to golf more. I have always enjoyed it, though it can be a tad expensive up here in the Greater Toronto Area. My goal this year is to break 80. Last year i shot an 81 as my best round ever. My game is all over the place. The week before, on the same course i shot the 81, i shot a 97. Go Figure!
2) Fishing. Lots of Fishing. Trout, Walleye (pickerel) are my species of choice come spring. Bass once mid june hits.
3) Jogging. I'm 6' and weigh 210. I would like to be under 200.
Happy days all!

You know, we can't know for sure Homer wouldn't have drafted JVR first overall. I really think us getting the 2nd pick saved him (homer)

FlyerRod-
Is everything ok?
I'm too tired and busy in real life to put this eloquently, but i will try.
Flyers are crap this year.
This sucks because i follow them religiously.
Its sucks also that i live in Toronto and they are killing us.
This is my perspective.
Do the math on how the flyers would have to run to get to 52-54 points for what they predict will be the cutoff.
Nobody wants them to do better than me, trust me.
If you dont want to read my posts, or whatever than go bury your head somewhere.
Ok, you facking idiot?
-
Watching the leafs/sens game on tsn and they just said during the intermission that if the leafs play only .500 hockey the rest of the way, the flyers would have to go 16-8 to catch.
Lets face it. We're screwed.
-
Its funny to listen announcers (Mcquire, Ferraro) talk about the fleecing the flyers put on the thrashers in getting Coburn. I agree that at the time it seemed like a steal but i think we can all agree that he is at best a guy with the tools of a 2-3 defenceman who plays with the mind of a 5-7 defenceman.
Watching him thru the game against the Rags yesterday was hilarious.
Under no pressure-bad pass. Bad coverage...Just all around bad decisions.
I wish he could just go see a hypnotist or swap out Prongers brain with his.
Ah well, at least he beat up Downie.

Damn you Calgary
-
He plays such a nice quiet defensively responsible game. Did again tonight. Offensive touch still seems to be there. Just have to hope he stays healthy. If he plays 22 games with us this season i think 14 pts is the over under.

You guys are being too logical.
I will be bumping this thread when the time is right

The Numbers on Homers trades
in Philadelphia Flyers
Posted
I know there are other variables/nuances/reasons for the trades that he made.
BUT
Its not hard to imagine why we would be struggling to score when in the RICHARDS CARTER JVR LUPUL deals we gave up 101 goals (based on last years as flyers/avg) and got back 40.
Look at what Chicago has done since they we met them in the finals compared to what we have done. We shipped out all stars/future cup winners/top 6 forwards because they drank BEER.
P. KANE had pictures of him totally wasted, puking, falling over women going into last season but they won the cup AGAIN.
Its conceivable that this mess is going to take 5-7 years to draft, sign our way out of (that is of course dependent upon who the gm is)
