They sank. This off-season should signal that there's going to be no more band-aid solutions. This should be nothing more than a full teardown and rebuild. Briere might have talked last year about how they weren't going to strip things down, but remain competitive and rebuild at the same time. That's no longer an option. Let the blood letting begin this offseason. As what Tortorella said, don't get attached to anyone. Other than maybe Foerster, Brink, Tippett, York, Sanheim, Drysdale, Ersson and Fedotov, everyone else should be getting shopped.

Agreed, this needs to be a full teardown and rebuild. Well if they lose their remaining games there's a possibility of being in the bottom ten of the league with some other teams winning their games to move past the Flyers up in the league standings. We can only hope. Briere has to tear it down to the foundation and start from there.

Yes, we are having a reality attack. Stripping out the D via trade and injury is icing on the crapper.  We have lost 8 in a row to Toronto. Their talent is truly high end. Hopefully, we get there.

On that point, hearing Shaw and Thompson post-game has been refreshing. They acknowledge the problems. They provide context. I get Torts' anti-media gig, but as a fan, I lose some color. Shaw and Thompson are truly students of the game, and their take is a learning experience for me. We are blessed to have those guys on board. I wish we heard more from them.

Yes, the Leafs have high end talent but if both teams make the playoffs they'll both be out in the first round. The big difference is everyone would expect the Flyers not to advance but the Leafs are expected to with all of that high end talent. They're great in the regular season but suck in the playoffs. I hope the Flyers don't win any of their remaining games and fall a lot in the standings to get a better pick. Ersson looks like he's tired!

The last stretch of the season will be the litmus test for the Flyers.  With 17 games remaining, 8 of those games are against teams with better records than the Flyers, 7 of those games in a row with a back-to-back thrown in for good measure.  3 more games against teams that are chasing the Flyers for a playoff spot.  Hoping the Defense gets healthy in a hurry.

The Playoffs effectively start this week.

This is their playoffs since Briere didn't bring in an experienced goalie to help Ersson out, if they don't make it they'll probably have their 1st rounder between the 10th pick and 16th pick and then the Flyers will have another 1st round pick late in the first round depending where Florida ends up.

I’m of the opinion that you can be in a rebuild, and also make the playoffs. This sport is not a vacuum. Just because your team is young and inexperienced, doesn’t mean you can’t exceed expectations. Just because you are a certain age, doesn’t mean you can’t play good hockey. DB came out and said he traded for EJ as a stabilizing presence for what is happening right now, this season. I’m not sure what the issue is here? Should they just pack it and not even try? Should they just tell all the current players, GFY, we don’t care how hard you’ve played, it’s doesn’t fit our plan, so we need to NOT make the playoffs in hopes that we draft some player(s) that will help us make the playoffs?

im sure that would go over well. the players would love it.

also, when GMs make trades, none of us have inside details on what took place. We can all sit here and argue what WE think should have happened, but that’s not how the real hockey world works

Yes Briere's trade for Johnson was probably out of need for an experienced defenseman since Seeler is out and Walker is gone. It would have been nice to pickup Raanta off waivers to have a more experienced goalie to help Ersson but so be it. I'd give Briere a grade of B for his first trade deadline, now let's see what he does with the draft picks this coming draft.

This reads as pretty black and white, giving an out to those living in "they're all full of sh!t" land. It's not realistic in any timeline.

Based on what I've heard in interviews, to trade Scott Laughton the deal needs to be stupidly in the Flyers favor.

    I'm not counting on that.

Walker is found money and should be traded for a maximum return if possible. If he remains, questions will need to be asked about just what the hell is the plan? He's the guy that will bring back the best return. He is the guy to sell high on if ever there was one.

Seeler, what's a #7 worth? a 3rd? Does that move the needle as a sweetener in a trade? Does a 3rd pick make the NHL? Where is his value?

The ideas floated where he and Walker get traded together iare intriguing and I'd love to see it. Especially if a top 6 forward prospect and a first are the return. Will that happen? I hope so, but will it?

Seeler should be cheap @ 2.7 aav for 3 years? something in that range. That's not killing anything with the cap going up. As long as they don't give him Andrew MacDonald money or term, I think it will be fine

He is the coach's pet, Jonesy loves him. They think Seeler's effect on the younger guys in the room is profound and they want to keep him around as an example of the way they want these young guys to go about being a pro.

If there are plans to try to move the rejuvenated Ristolainen around the draft or F/A, I think I would be satisfied by the direction of the club.

Mojo I understand what you're saying but after March 8th Walker should definitely not be on this team, Laughton possibly because there will be always some GMs who will overpay at the deadline if they think their team is close. Konecny, the Flyers don't know what he's going to ask in his next contract so I'd trade him now with one year left on his current deal. As for Seeler, if he resigns at $3 million for the next 3 years I'm fine with that as long as Risto is on his way out, the Flyers don't need two of the exact same type of veteran defensemen with one making $5.1 million per year and other $3 million. So we'll see what Briere does in his first trade deadline.

His point, I think, was that the players shouldn't think of this as "rebuilding" and should go out and play hard regardless.

The rubber hits the road right now at the trade deadline. Are they "all in for the playoffs" or are they in a New Era of Orange?

    🤔

Well said, either Briere and Jones are committed to a rebuild which they trade Walker, Seeler, and Laughton and even possibly Konecny at the deadline or they're full of ****. We'll see.

Well TK is asking for 10 per year and if i am GM i am telling him to pack his bags...even 9 mill is too much in my rebuild plans.

TK will be 27 next month and if he is making 9-10 mill at 35 well they will not have learned a goddamn thing.

He is your biggest trade piece and should be moved as such if you don't agree then we'll just have to agree your idea of a rebuild and my idea of a rebuild do not align one bit...and i don't want to here shat about the cap going up and making it look not so bad in a few years that would be total bull sh it!!!

Well if TK wants $9 or $10 million per year then trade him this trade deadline to get a maximum return. Owen Tippett could slide in to be the number one right winger going forward since the Flyers signed him to that new contract.

We should have traded him when we had the chance.  Another asset wasted.

I think Briere has probably tried but no team will trade for Hart if he is involved in the 2018 World Jrs investigation.

Bingo. Picking 14th (yet again) isn't going to get Philly a cup. A Michkov isn't going to fall into our lap every year.

Yes it's nice to see a team that actually tries out there again, but they really need a total rebuild. And this is just trying to get back to 1st and 2nd round playoff losses. Wash/rinse/repeat.

As much as we want as fans for the Flyers to rebuild properly and keep losing games, the players themselves don't want that. Briere has to stay committed to trading players with expiring contracts at the deadline no matter where the Flyers are in the standings to get draft picks. We'll see if he does that.

I'm just feeling like a Montreal fan with Price.

    I like Hart a lot.

Will he be the guy when they're ready? More importantly, will he want to stay to find out if he is?

Yes, but the Canadiens had that miracle run with Price in the net, hell being a fan since '73 I'll take a miracle run with Hart in the net if it finally means one more cup I get to see before having my ticket on earth pulled! It took this franchise 40 years to draft and develop a homegrown goalie so they might as well play it out with him.

I swear if there is a player that i see saw more on it's Carter Hart. I love the kid he is the best player i have ever seen the Flyers draft to play goal.

So with that said if they can get a boat load then trade him i guess. I want what is best for the team and club going forward.

However if they want to hold onto him so by the time the team is ready to compete for something he will be around 28 which is in his prime still then with 3-4 year of good to great hockey still in him i am good with it.

I do not want to trade Hart just for a few draft picks that aren't 1st round picks just to make a change.

That's where I'm at with Hart, he's the 1st true homegrown goalie since Lindbergh, I don't count Hextall's rookie season because after that season he wasn't that good. I'm really hoping that they don't trade Hart but build around him so by the time he hits 28 years old then the Flyers contending window will be open. We'll see.

I was there last night as I couldn’t pass up a chance to see the boys in person when they come to Raleigh. Great game by the Flyers (minus the ****** PP).

Hart played out of his mind. I may be in the minority but I really hope that Danny doesn’t trade him and can get him extended. Walker was a solid pick up and has played very well. Sanheim has raised his game and the ability to roll four lines or have four lines contribute is refreshing!

It's a double edged sword with Hart, as much as I'd love the Flyers extend him if they keep him he'll cost them a higher draft pick. So if Briere and Jones want to do a full rebuild then they might not have any choice but trade Hart. Trade him to Edmonton and bring back Campbell and that will guarantee the 1st overall pick with him in net.

Feels like Frost is now being punished for his wingers not being able to find the back of the net.

    Big trade coming?????

    Carter Hart

    Morgan Frost

    to Oilers for what?????

    How about the following trade:

    To EDM:

    Carter Hart

    Morgan Frost

    To PHILLY:

    Jack Campbell

    Philip Broberg

    Edm's 2024 1st round pick

    Edm's 2026 2nd round pick

Campbell will guarantee Flyers losses for this year and next year for sure. Broberg is a 22 year old LD. The picks are Carter Hart and taking on Campbell's contract.

    Thoughts?

Yeah seen whisper starting back up of Hart to the Oilers again.

If they move him it should be a lock for the Flyers to at least slide into the top 5.

That's what I was thinking, the Oilers need to make a big change in goaltending, so Hart going to the Oilers would make sense. I believe it's Holland's last year anyways so he won't give a **** about the Oilers future picks he wants to win now. Besides Hart is an Alberta boy and probably would love to play for the Oilers. So I guess we'll see what happens. Besides if the Flyers end up taking back Campbell as part of the deal it would guarantee lots of loses with him in the Flyers net.

I love it. All this extra money is going to be crucial come the trade deadline. They'll be able to take on bad contracts and receive incredible assets in return. This is what smart GMs with a plan do. They know when they'll be able to strike.

As others have said, this club is going to be better. They'll be horrible, but better. You'll see which guys are going to be the guys who stay and that's critical. Next year will be a huge year for youth. It's very possible that Gauthier, Desnoyers, Andrae and possibly Grans all make the big club. I know a lot on here like Desnoyers, but I think they're going to let him dominate down in Lehigh Valley before he gets the full call.

That's what I hope Briere does this year, let the youth play. When the deadline rolls around, take on bad contracts for assets and build up the draft capital. It will be a long season but if Briere sticks to the true rebuild then it will be interesting.

Would you care to elaborate? I’m not disputing it I’m curious. I don’t get the feeling Briere is going for an accelerated rebuild (thank god). On the other hand he hasn’t been complacent either. It doesn’t look like he’s anticipating a decade-long rebuild.

Hart turns 25 this Sunday so barring injury he’s got another 5 years minimum playing NHL hockey. He may play until he’s 35.

Before I trade him I want to see how he plays with a decent roster in front of him. Decent that’s all. Minus Hayes, JVR and DeAngelo the Flyers should be decent next year. At least they should be motivated to give their teammates an honest game. That alone will be a huge difference. If that happens (and I expect it will) Hart may benefit the most and his Save%, if nothing else numbers-wise, should improve.

I agree Briere isn't going for an accelerated rebuild, I believe he wants to strip it down to the bare bones and start from scratch. If that's the case based on other goalies who have played in their 30's I think Hart has at least 10 good seasons in him which brings him to the age of 35. So the question is does Briere want to waste 4 or 5 years of Hart's career during the rebuild or trade him to get assets to help the rebuild. Lots of goalies don't come into their own until the age of 25 so that's the age Hart is at now, personally I hope they don't trade him and let him grow with the young group but hey I'm just a fan who posts on the fan forum so what do I know.

I won't disagree that he hasn't been great...but he's pretty good when there isn't a complete joke playing in front of him. I would like to see what he could do with a decent team.

It's the same old story the goalie is either the hero or the goat! Hart is pretty good and it would be more obvious if he did have a decent team in front of him, he was responsible for a lot of the Flyers wins last year. Unfortunately, under Briere's plan I don't think Hart will be around to see the completion of the rebuild.
