  1. That's about what I was thinking. Maybe playing on a line with Giroux and Voracek might be a motivator for him. I know he is not the ideal solution, but like Del Zotto, could be a let's see what you can do kind of thing. If Hartnell can put up those kind of numbers, what could Penner do? They are the same age. So like you said $1.5 million and see what happens. If you pitch a "you'll play with Giroux," just might get it done.

  2. Hello all, it's been a while. With all the talk of the need for a LW, why not go after Penner? He's a decent LW, a definite upgrade from Hartnell, and a cup winner. His salary was $2 million last year and is still not signed. Not sure what the deal is with the salary cap situation now that Del Zotto has been signed, but is squeezing in $2 million or less might be possible. Would love to hear what everyone has to say. Thanks.

  3. It's been a while boys, so please bare with me. I know this is coming from everyone's favorite blogger, Ek, but he mentioned that the Flyers maybe interested in Miller. Said something like giving up Schenn. Miller is about a half million higher cap hit than Bryz, but a consistently top goaltender in the league. From what I have seen and heard, Miller is also a leader, where Bryz is more of a distraction than anything else. I would like to give Mason a shot and hate to give up Schenn, but Mason is really unproven and they have quiet a few young forwards. I think Miller has quiet a few more years in him, he is only 32. Try to sign him for 4 yrs (I think signed for 2 more already and may want a long final contact) and keep Mason in the wings. Would like to keep Schenn and ride Mason, but they may be in the same situation with their goaltender if Mason flops.

  4. I think for leadership, Gagne would be great for this young team. He is a hard worker and always comes to play. He can be fragile, but works hard to come back from whatever ailment he has. I say they try to keep him if the price is right.

  5. Then that's even better, they are really going to be up against the cap with Carle. What, they should have about 3 mill to play with? Would be a good addition if they can convince Briere to move to rw. Not sure he would do it but would be a pretty good looking line; Hartnell, Giroux, Briere.

  6. Just thinking of some ideas of what the Flyers could do. They are up against some cap issues and need to address a rw for G. How bout going after Prust and putting him with the 3rd or 4th line and move up Briere to rw for G? Prust isn't a powerhouse on the scoring front, but does work the pk and is a nasty player to play against. Not sure what it would take, but he scored 8 goals last year, so what 3 mill or so? Could be a Talbot type move.

  7. The series is not over by any means, but this game is waaaaayyyy out of reach. Game 5 in Pitt. Did everyone really believe that they were gonna sweep the Pens? Two of the best players in the world on a very talented team, it wasn't gonna happen. Just thought that they would have at least showed up tonight.

  8. I agree that's game, no one looks like they are as desperate as the Pens. The Pens are playing like its gonna be a sweep and the Flyers are acting like they have 3 more games to finish them off. Not playing with the same intensity. Hope they come back Friday with more intensity and desperation. Not looking good.

  9. Sounds good, If JvR can come back and produce some what it is better than Harry Z or Rinaldo. Same with Meszaros, would be an up grade form Lilja (sp) and Gus. But whats the deal with Kubina and Shelley? Was in some article I read, didn't sound right.

  10. Kubina skated on a defensive pairing with forward Jody Shelley? That can't be right. Typo right? God help us if that is true. So who would Kubina be skating with? What's the word on Meszaros? Second round of the playoffs or could they get him back in the first round?

  11. Why all this talk about trading JvR? He is young and at times plays like it, but he has shown he can do work in the playoffs and he has a low cap hit for a while. They don't need just another forward or d-man, they need a true leader. Someone, like Pronger, wouldn't put up with this take games or take shifts off crap. I think, if your gonna trade someone young and has a lot of potential and draft picks and not get that in return is a big mistake. As I see it now, they make the playoffs and possibly win a series. So just adding another minor piece is not gonna push them over the top. If they can add a leader like a Jason Smith, who they got pretty cheap, (did have to give a young d-man, but everyone was on Joni anyway), and with his leadership quite possibly push them over the top, then do it. If not, then keep what you got and look at what happens during the off season.

  12. I have to say, I think this is a good move by the Kings. Their line-up looks pretty good now, even without Johnson. I think they are both gonna go on a tear, whether this year or the next. They both have something to prove individually. And now that they are back together, they have something to prove together. There was talk of those two being the cornerstones to a Cup here. They were split up, because they couldn't bring the cup and had a few lapses of better judgment. On a twist of fate, they are back together and have the chance to prove the flyers made a mistake and become the cornerstone to a King's cup. We'll see what happens.
