I know it's boring, but I don't trade for Hamilton, Montour or any of it. It's fun to talk about and I'm certainly not above it and like to talk about it too, but we have people coming that will keep the supply chain coming and the team extremely competitive and contenders.  While not having to blow up the team for cap reasons.

So small moves to fill in gaps, like Gustafson, but I'm not trading for that level unless it's short term and equivalent money is going out.

  2. Tonight [Jan 16] in the Philadelphia Inquirer -

    Excerpt:

    - - the Flyers were at their best in the third period of each of these first two games, grinding the Penguins down to dust, outscoring them 5-1, and maybe the most revealing and encouraging statistic through those two contests is this: No Flyers forward averaged more than 19 minutes of ice time per game. There’s no more asking Claude Giroux to push himself past 20, 21 minutes a night, no more third- and fourth-lines made up of marginal NHL players.

    - - the Flyers were the fresher, stronger team late in that game, just as they were in their season-opening 6-3 victory Wednesday.

Flyes depth, depth, depth. Young legs, hard skating, conditioning. Forecheck, forecheck, forecheck. Catapult that 4th line on them!

This is a very, very, good team - - a CUP contender.

  3. from Broad Street Buzz:

Phantoms will be signing goaltender Zane McIntyre and forwards Ryan Fitzgerald and Tanner MacMaster to AHL contracts. All three will report to Phantoms’ training camp which opens in the upcoming weeks in Allentown at the PPL Center. With Flyers prospect Roddy Ross still unsigned, the Phantoms will be bringing in Mcintyre to spilt time with Sandstrom and Ross is expected to sign.

McIntyre finds a new team after being released three days ago from his PTO with the Coyotes. A perfect pair with the prospect, Sandstrom to learn from the veteran McIntyre.

    Phantoms Roster:

Goalies (3): Zane McIntyre, Roddy Ross & Felix Sandstrom

Defensemen (8): Chris Bigras, Logan Day, Linus Hogberg, Mason Millman, Derrick Pouliot, Tyler Wotherspoon, Wyatte Wylie & Egor Zamula

Forwards (14): Ralph Cuddemi, Ryan Fitzgerald, Tyson Foerster, David Kase, Pascal Laberge, Tanner Laczynski, Tanner MacMaster, Cal O’Reilly , Linus Sandin, Brennan Saulnier, Matthew Strome, Maksim Sushko, Max Willman, & Zayde Wisdom.

Injured Reserve: Kirill Ustimenko (out for season), Wade Allison & Issac Ratcliffe.

This is a good break for our Flyers Jrs eligible players: Foerster, Wisdom, and Millman.

They get Pro exposure and experience. And our Flyers organization gets to watch and evaluate them. Win-win. When the 3 CHL Leagues start playing again, they must report to their Jrs team or make the Flyers club (highly unlikely).

    Costochondral Separation

A Costochondral separation, sometimes known as a rib separation, usually occurs after a direct impact to the chest. One or more ribs become separated from the costochondral joint (made from cartilage) which is also attached to the breastbone. The area will be very painful, especially when breathing deeply, and it can take several months to fully recover.

Symptoms of a costochondral separation include a sudden point of pain where the rib meets the chest bone or sternum. Patients often describe a popping sensation. The initial pain may subside, only to gradually get worse again. Pain is acute with deep breaths, coughing and sneezing.

Treatment is mostly rest. Seek medical attention to rule out any complications such as a fractured rib or pneumothorax. Your Doctor may prescribe painkillers to ease your discomfort and allow you to breathe more normally. This injury will usually take around 2-3 months to heal fully.

    September 19, 2017

VOORHEES, N.J. — Dave Hakstol brought up the idea on Monday and Claude Giroux appeared to embrace it.

The Flyers' captain switched to left wing during Tuesday’s practice on a line with Jakub Voracek at right wing and Sean Couturier in the middle.

“That’s funny because I was pretty much a winger all my life,” Giroux said. “I started playing center when I became a professional. It’s hard to complain when you’re playing with Jake and Coots.”

Over the years, Giroux has found a comfort zone creating a shot off the left half board, especially off the team’s power-play setup, and towards the end of Tuesday’s practice, Couturier was feeding Giroux one-timer after one-timer.

“We did a lot of drills where I was coming down the left side there,” Giroux said. “I can see the ice pretty good from there because you have the puck on your good side. It was actually a lot of fun. It’s not like I'm against it or I’m not happy with it if it makes the team better. I know we have a lot of centermen. I’m up for the idea for sure.”

  6. As MD posted - - the early oportunity for Frost to show he is ready for the NHL.

My take is that he is ready, and with these 8 or more games, he will get valuable experience and grow each game.

Repeat from my post in the other thread:

AV will probably insert Frost at 1C, and it gives the coaching staff an early look at Frost as he has worked very hard and has shown improvement in his weak areas. As we all know, Frost has great puck skills, shooting skills, and speed. He could be a scoring machine at the NHL level as the rest of his game improves.

As Couturier is out, Frost would be able to play his natural Center position. He has not played wing at any level of his hockey career.

    Lindblom-Frost-Konecny
Giroux-Hayes-Farabee (this line has shown early chemistry)
    JVR-Patrick-Voracek
    Raffl-Laughton-Aube Kubel

    #13-Bunnaman (up from Taxi Squad)

We won't freak-out at the thought of Frost on the 1st line. We all can simply think of the Hayes line as the 1st line for a number of games.

Hopefully Couturier's shoulder is not serious and he is truely back after approx 8 games.

So far, It's only a 2 game small sample size. There are many aspects of lines and players play to observe and evaluate.

The coaching staff has constructed these lines through evaluation over the off-season and through Camp. AV most likely will not re-shuffle because of the Couturier vacancy, IMO. He will want these lines to continue to learn to sync together and not change-up after only 2 games.

Assuming Frost plays 'well-to-great', and Couturier returns. then it will be interesting here with all of us pseudo GMs/Coaches giving our plan. Frost has not played wing at any level of his hockey career.

But, that is a few weeks away.

This line has shown good chemistry in these first two games, and it will only get better:

It's somewhat fact and somewhat subjective - -

    Rank of Flyers fastest skaters:

    1) NAK

    2) Frost

    3) Konecny

    4) Farabee

    5) Myers

    The Philadelphia Flyers Skills Competition

NAK has had a stellar bounce back season for Philly. He’s come in and provided a spark for the Flyers while they were red hot. NAK not only plays each shift like his last, but he has the ability to drop the gloves, and even produce some offense from time to time. However, the most underrated aspect of his game is his speed.

His acceleration, his ability to change direction so easily, and overall his grit and fore checking is incredible for a player of his stature.  NAK takes the edge over TK for the Flyers’ fastest skater.

    Morgan Frost
His skating ability sets him apart from the crowd, as he is among the fastest players in any league. Also boasts excellent playmaking skills and sound two-way ability. Needs to get physically stronger in order to maximize output at the highest level, since he is undersized (5-11, 170) for the National Hockey League game.
Long Range Potential: Talented, speedy forward with good upside.

Yeah, I agree with the captain thing and I know RW was what he played through juniors.  But when it came up last year or the year before he kind of balked at it.  Maybe that's changed, but I think he likes where he is.

It's a viable option, and I'd really like to see him and Farabee stay with Hayes and flip side even aside from Couturier's injury.

But there has to be a reason they haven't despite its seemingly being obvious.

I think we should just tap the brakes a bit. Things are going well and we are two games in. Two big games with wins. If Coots is out, make a move to replace him with your next best Center, and fill the vacancy with the best available center. I would assume this is Frost?

    Agree with CX thinking.
