Serious question.  If Hitch is interested, would you bring him back?

IMO no, Hitch is old school and old school no longer works in the new NHL.

The new HNL is a faster puck possession game, the dump and chase dose not work anymore.

You need set plays for zone break out and zone entry. The days of players freestyling plays are over, unless you are Connor McDavid.

  2. Never have been a fan of AV so I'm not sad to see him gone. Not sure how Yeo survived but I hope the term interim is just that.

Fletcher has to go next and bring in a GM that gets the new NHL and let him hire his own HC, then let the work on a rebuild begin.

The problem with these guys is the big picture. Philly isn't in shape to contend for the cup. These guys are on the downswing of their careers. And their contracts are just more of the "bite you in the ass" type that we keep dreading over and over and over, yet some people keep applauding them everytime they bring in yet another one.

Do I think Hayes and Ellis will make the team better once they're healthy? Sure. Do they make us a cup contender? Not even close. And their contracts are just going to be more of the same...Bryz/JVR/Voracek, I'm sure we'll be throwing Atkinsons in there as well.

You kinda hit the nail on the head with this comment.

You can't sign below average players to above average contracts and expect to contend.

Not saying Ellis is below average but he is defiantly on the down side of his career and Hayes and JVR are below average players and over paid along with half the Flyers line-up.

They did and you even mentioned this so I know you know but Ellis I that guy.

    Dude got hurt.

Give him a chance to get healthy and contribute I mean damn he only played in what 4 games (of which they went 3-0-1 in) and up 1 goal and 4 assists in those games and IS STILL 3rd on the defense in points.

So for the love of God folks let the guy play first.

Same with Kevin Hayes who lost his brother and is fighting through a recovery goddammit if you want to blame anyone blame the bums WHO ARE ACTUALLY PLAYING THE MOTHERFCUKING GAMES!!!

Sorry bro not all that vitriol is aimed at you just used your post to add too.

Ellis is a very good addition let him play and if he doesn't help and sucks then let's hold him accountable.

And I will when the time comes.

So in your mind Hayes is worth a 7 million cap hit?

    Okay then.

  5. To all the people that think a coaching won't help this team. Just take a look at Calgary.

Crappy team that was going nowhere then they hire Sutter basically the same team but they bought into Sutter's system

Now they are in second place just behind a good Edmonton team.

Yes there is hella problems with management but AV and his assistants don't seem to have a system to buy into.

I stand by my assessment AV has to go.

  6. Too many mid league players making high end player money, IE Giroux, JVR, Hayes, Ellis  and Couturier to a point.

Going to be hard to dump all these high contracts only godsend is Giroux's contract up after this year.

Hayes, I just don't get his 7 mil contract.....he just isn't that good.

Read that again you'll see I wrote "sign him for $7.5 over 3 years," or $2.5mil/year. I knew I was dreaming when I wrote it. I'm still dreaming. If he takes a hometown discount it'll be $5 to $6mil/year and I'd be okay with that as long as the term is 3 years no more.

Frankly though I'm convinced it's better to trade him. If they keep him he's still captain right? The Flyers need a fresh start, as everyone (except Fletcher) is saying, a true rebuild. That means a new captain. I love Giroux and everything he brings. But it's time.

    Oops, sorry

Not sure AV is to blame.  No coach would be able to do much with this hot mess.

See I'm not convinced there isn't some talent on this team, I just think the style of play AV wants this team to play is not conducive to the strengths of the players. Yes there are a few high priced duds JVR and Hayes come to mind but overall I think there is enough talent to win games.

When I tuned in to Fletcher's presser today he was rattling on about injuries and wanting to see the injured guys back and the full team compete before he made any moves. That's fair enough if the guys that are playing now looked like a competitive, hungry bunch. But even Chuckie must see they don't look like that at all they look like they've checked out and just don't give a damn. There's a Major Funk in that dressing room god only knows how they fix it.

IMO Fletcher wouldn't know a good hockey player they hit him with a body check.

The reason you trade Giroux is because the team is finished. Sure he has been our best player, but he is up there in age and we need to get assets to rebuild, so Giroux does not fit into the future of this team and since we have no chance to win now, so you move your most valuable assets. To me, that’s Giroux and Coots.

Hey I'm all for trading Giroux, but IMO you need to get the management, HC and GM situation figured out first.

The only way out of this mess is to deal assets and take pennies on the dollar, probably retain some salary too. To really start over you have to deal the overpriced hacks and that's Hayes and JVR. Those 2 are the priorities. Paying them not to play in the O&B will suck for awhile but it's better than them paying them to play in the O&B.

I hear ya. I'm a Giroux fan too but he can't expect big money again from the Flyers. Re-sign him at $7.5 over 3 years (no longer), something like that, and let him play wing where he's got plenty of points left in him. I know I'm dreaming; that's a huge pay cut. But if he's really the team player...I mean jeez he must have tons of money saved by now.

Deal the rest of the dead wood; Yandle, Thompson, Braun, Ellis...Ristolainen keep for $9mil over 3 years. Of course he'll want more, let him test FA. I like what he brings but not for $5.4/year.

The biggest hurdle to building an NHL team they already solved: they got Carter Hart and he's the cornerstone. But the Flyers can't waste his best years with Hayes and JVR taking up air and space, Ellis forever injured...etc. Rebuild time is now while Hart, Provorov, Farabee, Konecny - even Laugton -are still young and hungry. And keep Zach MacEwen dammit. He's a born Flyer!

Umm..sorry Giroux is no longer worth 7.5 million per year.

That is what the problem with this franchise, signing long term has been Flyers (Giroux) or no talent Flyers (Hayes) to long tern big money contracts.

If Fletcher trades Giroux he may as well hand in his resignation. He's gone all in with his idiotic long term signing of Hayes, trading of picks/players for soon to be signed too long Ristolainen, more picks/players for signed for too long Ellis. He brought in old man Yandle (he of ZERO points in his last 17 games) to replace the guy he gave away along with draft picks Shayne Gostisbehere (who LEADS his team in scoring). He brought in old man Brassard. And old man Braun. And old man Atkinson. And older man Thompson. Who all looked like great pickups...for 5 games. Sadly the season is 82 games long and most of these guys are almost done.

Nobody saw this coming. Oh,wait....lots of us did.

Blow it up. But first you need a gm capable of a rebuild. And Chuckie is NOT that guy.

In what bizarro world is Hayes worth the kind of money Fletcher signed him for?

For that move alone Fletcher should be fired.

It was three weeks ago. It was a Tuesday... No wait, I think it was Wednesday.  Maybe Monday.  I know it was raining.   I forget what I was watching but I know it wasn't the Flyers because they suck and watching Sesame Street in Bengali is much more enjoyable. Anyway, I know it was three weeks ago.

    #AmIright?

Laugh and make fun of me all you want. Deep down you know I'm right and you just wont admit it.

Keep the orange glasses on and maybe just maybe they will luck into the playoffs and get hot and win the cup......not!!

He's been to the Final twice as a coach since the lockout and the Flyers won their first round of playoffs in about a decade in his first season as coach two seasons ago.

When did this new era of NHL hockey start?

  15. The problem with AV is his style of coaching just doesn't work in this new NHL and he flat out refuses to change or adapt.

The opposition coaches have seen his game plan this year and adapting to play the Flyers but AV wont change his game plan. Hell if Hart wasn't standing on his head some games the record would look a lot worse.

AV's coaching philosophy has come and gone.......and don't even get me started on the clown show that are his assistant coaches.

Do you really think that's true though? I never thought much of Holmgren but 80s hockey? If anything, this team we have is kind of soft. They definitely aren't caught up in some sort of dated idea. They play speed and possession like everybody else. They definitely don't pound people around or play overly physical. They just can't score goals.

I personally think it's AV's system. Unless you're going to change the players they need to open this thing up with the guys they have.

Been saying that for a couple years. He refuses to change his coaching style to match his players, and his style of players are gone from the league like the dinosaurs from earth.

This team goes no ware till AV and his minions are gone.

  17. Personally I don't think this is a playoff team, if they do make it it will be by the skin of their teeth.

Not enough talent or depth on this team, yeah they can put a top tier 1st line on the ice but IMO 2, 3, and 4 are going to struggle.

In goal Hart will have to stand on his head (hope we don't ruin him), better D will help but again I don't see the depth there either. Jones is a big ? in my book.

Giroux is not a leader (and I like Giroux) hopefully Couturier can step up and kinda take over the team.

Coaching.......What can I say I think we are still very week in the coaching department.

GM......Again I don't think Fletcher is a competent GM. He has not done much to improve the team, and I'm sure he is right up against the cap.
