  1. @EightyEight  You just don't give away talent befoe knowing what you have. We still don't even know if this kid is a top 6 forward for God's sake. Maybe he's the best center on the team, who knows? You keep him...and B.Schenn and Cooter and find a way to make it work.

@jammer2  I agree and I wouldn't trade Laughton but knowing Holmgren's track record of trading talent for over-the-hill players anything could happen.

  2. We do have a lot of centers, but the real question is, who gets moved. Giroux is going no where....Vinny has a no trade clause and Cooter is relatively a great bargain on his rookie deal. Hall is a respectable 4th liner, but not worth anything in a trade. In summary, it appears like Coots is the only real moveable center, which would be a mistake. I would not deal B.Schenn right now either despite his playing on the wing part of the time. I just don't see any of these players being shipped out, for various reasons.

If a C is traded it will prolly be Laughton.

  3. Is that how many games he's cost Flyer players with poor evaluation on injuries? If it is, I call bs...it's way higher than that.

    Trainer's milestone

Jim McCrossin, the Flyers' trainer/conditioning coach, took part in his 1,500th career game Tuesday. He has been in the league for 17 seasons - 16 with the Flyers, one with Hartford.

"I'm hoping for another 1,500," McCrossin said.

  4. I know that JVR only played 7 games for the Phantoms and I was in attendance for a game he played in Norfolk vs. Admirals.  I can't say about the other 6 games but he was awful and look totally uninterested in Norfolk.  I was not impressed with him at all especially being the 2nd overall pick in the draft.

I also feel that JVR wasn't used properly with the Flyers.  Whether that figured into his nonchalant attitude I don't know but I could see how the Flyers gave up on him.   My only complaint about the trade is we should have insisted on more from Toronto.

  5. @Howie58, interesting. I was thinking the other day if there was a Flyer alone in the slot with a shot which Flyer would I want it to be. Read came to mind, but Vinny and G as well.  I think Read has a quicker release but he really hasn't capitalized on some great chances lately. I was hoping for just a bit more.  The problem with Vinny and G as the answer to my questions is they are both centers and likely passing to that player.  I think my answer should have been Voracek or Hartnell and the fact that is wasn't really shows how the productively of the first line is just not there.  When Read is 2nd in goals scored playing on the 3rd line and only 2nd pp unit I think is a testament to his goal scoring ability.

I said it before, Read and Simmonds should switch lines.  Read is much more of a gifted scorer and IMO is a 2nd line player.

  6. Timonen and maybe Grossmann need to be moved though. Too slow. The heart and effort are there, but the body isn't cooperating.

I didn't see Timonen's heart or effort on the capitals break away goal on Friday night.  He really hesitated and was the reason the caps player was able to go in on Emery virtually uncontested.  Just my 2 cents.

  7. Just about every night this year someone (other than Flyers) are being suspended because of a cheap shot intentional boarding and/or elbowing and no one cries about that.   In addition, most games involve a player being jumped by another.  The flyers are no different than other other team when it comes to fist-a-cuffs.   In an effort to match the big bad bruins and dirty blues back in the day the flyers matched their mentality to make things equal and give them a chance.  Ever since then they haven't been able to lose the Bullies tag.  What happened vs the capitals has been played many many times before by all NHL team.

  8. I don't believe it was an accident that the Avalanche season tanked last year after Downie was hurt, I know you guys had him before when he was a kid but seriously, watching him in Florida and Colorado the sucker can play for me any time.

Agreed. Just hope the FLYERS LOGO doesn't make him a penalty magnet again.

  9. Whew, go figure.  Everyone here hated Carle until he wasn't signed then moaned and groaned about Holmgren not re-signing him.   As has been mentioned here numerous times, defensemen take longer to develop.  I think Coburn, while coughing up the puck as often as any other NHL defenseman, is one of the Flyers best defenseman so far this year.  Mez is oft-injured and is should be on the trading block but is probably here to stay becuase of his contract.  Just me 2 cents.

  10. Hartnell is past his usefulness on the top line.  He isn't going anywhere so use his mucking and grinding skills on the 3rd line.  Read is a scorer and should be used on the 1st and/or 2nd line.  His shooting and skating are his best assets, however he is being misused.  Simmonds is playing his way off the team so far this year.  Haven't seen him come away with the puck along the boards much this year.  He is forever losing the puck along the boards.

On another note, maybe Mr. Clarke can come down on the ice and show G how to win  face-offs.  Last night vs. Canucks he was terrible.  Just my $0.02.

  11. I don't understand why Hartnell is on any line above the third.  It is so apparent that he is far behind the other top 6 forwards in skating ability.  I like Brelic's lines.  I'd also like to see them try:

    Read/Giroux/Voracek

    Simmonds/Lecavalier/Schenn

    Hartnell/Couturier/Talbot

    Rosehill/Hall/Rinaldo

I really like your forward lines.  Read needs to be with playmakers/scorers in order to be effective.  I think that he is a wasted talent being on the 3rd line with grinders.  Also, Hartnell on the first line is ridiculous.  Just my 2 cents.

  12. Boudreau was highlighting a play late in the contest, when Ducks forward Corry Perry incidentally collided with Simmonds in the Flyers’ zone. Neither player was watching the other when Perry wiped out Simmonds with a blindside hit, who crumpled to the ground, dropped his stick and eyeballed a call.

Every player in the league would have done the same thing as Simmonds; it's part of the game if you can give yourselves an advantage.

  13. I trade nothing at all. Stick with what I got and look at the draft for my next dman via drafting or trade. If I'm the gm right now draft picks are golden in this draft. It's listed as deeper then 03

I think staying put for once may actually be the better choice. Let's face it, Pronger playing is a big maybe; who know how many games he'll play this year. Snider is quick to try and fix what's broken but in reality downgrades another position that needs fixing. It makes sense to be patient and develop home-grown players from the draft. Quick fixes haven't worked out for them in 45 years.
