  1. I like Bobby Ryan, but Nash would be a good acquisition. Shame that either player would require a youngster in return, but I watched Nash playing for years while I lived in columbus and the guy is a stud.
  2. All else being equal, I just think it is at a point where these guys want to go to a place where the role they will have on the team fits what they may want. Hamhuis, when he was available Pronger was still the #1 on the team, Timonen a #2, Ham would have been a deep defenseman and that was not what he wanted. Suter and Parise, they wanted to play together and be closer to their homes -- Parise, he will immediately be the team leader in Minny, while in Philly, it's Claude's team. Parise would have probably been on the second line. Philly is still a desirable location, and while I am sure some players do not want to play here because of fan intensity, I believe most embrace it. If you hear most players comment about fan passion, they hate playing in a city where people could not care less about the team (review some of Voracek's comments after leaving Columbus for a good example).
  3. Did he even try? Outside of shuffling a couple of players on the lines, the system itself was never changed.
  4. I was just thinking this yesterday. What's the over/under for off-season surgeries? I put it at 5.
  5. The important number is the $6.3 mil, because that's the cap hit. If he retires, that frees up a lot of dough-re-me.
  6. Lavy himself may not be the problem. Lavy's system, however, is. He even admitted as much during the post game, when he said that the Flyers were never really able to play their game because the Devils never let them. Lavy wanted to keep playing the way the Flyers had all year. He failed to adjust. Anyone watching the game could see that the Devils knew what the Flyers were going to do before they knew themselves. How many times was the puck picked off along the boards? The Devils studied the Flyers tendencies, then sat in the lanes they always used.
  7. Those that can't do, teach. Sean Burke will likely never come back to Philadelphia. Remember, he once said (I'm paraphrasing from memory, "The best thing that ever happened to me was signing with Philadelphia. The second best thing that ever happened to me was leaving Philadelphia."
  8. He's actually in line for anothe $6.3 million next year. Between him, Carle, Lappy, Betts, and Jagr potentially dropping off the roster, there is suddenly a lot of money available.
  9. I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.
  10. I'm trying to find some other explanation for the Flyers going so soft this round. The only thing I can come up with, it's gotta be something I'm doing different. You know you've thought it, right? Time to admit it. There can be no other explanation except something you have done to upset the might cosmic hockey force. I am blaming the playoff beard I decided to grow after game 1 of the Penguins series. Runner-up is that Kenny Albert is now the play-by-play announcer.
  11. Interesting question amongst my Flyers brethren who were watching the game with me last night -- Will you root for the Kings if/when the Flyers are eliminated? Now, obviously if it were a Kings/Flyers final I would not. But what if it were Kings/Rangers? I think I would, but about half the people watching with me last night would not. Why? I feel like the Ricahrds and Carter animosity is a little thick sometimes. Sure they didn;t work out here as planned, but the "he's dead to me" angle that I hear some friends throw is a bit thick. Plus I would like to see Williams get the cup (again), and Hextall win one, too. Shame about Gagne, though -- that's one Flyer I always wanted to see lift the cup no matter where he played, and he's been out with a concussion. SO what will you do?
  12. Someone ought to add subtitles, like they do with that Hitler/Nazi video.
  13. We could also be up 2-0 in the series. Think about that, too. NJ played their best game of hockey in the last 6 months. The Flyers will respond.
  14. Think about it, Philly won game 1 by one goal (2-1), lost game 2 after being up by a goal at the end of the first period and were tied at the end of the second, then NJ stepped on the gas in the third. The Flyers then went on to win three straight to win the series.
  15. They partied with Radulov and Kostitsyn the night before.
  16. Fair post. As I was watching the game, at the end of the second, I was thinking much of the same thing -- that Bryz needed to steal the game if the Flyers were going to win at all. Sometimes a goalie is able to do that, but most of the time he can't. Niemi didn't steal a single game for the Blackhawks in their cup run (granted Niemi had two shut outs in the first series, but it was against the Predators, who aren't exactly stacked on offense and B), the Blackhawks were playing very strong in front of him, unlike the Flyers last night). while it would have been nice for Bryz to have shut the door, the Flyers were playing so poorly in front of him that it is really a team loss. Agreed it was a missed opportunity, but really the flyers needed to step it up when they came out in the third and they failed.
  17. It's posts like this that keep me browsing this board at work even though I might get in trouble with my boss.
  18. Announcing Marty's retirement after the series is over?
  19. I was watching with the volume turned off and at first I thought they walked out holding giant bongs.
  20. No way Asham gets 7-10. I know he's been suspended before, but 7-10 would be too much. I'm guessing 2.
  21. Hah. Seriously, I think it is just because its been quite a busy day on the supplemental discipline front. Shaw, BAckstrom, Adams, Konopka...
