Bill Dineen was inducted into the World Hockey Association Hall of Fame in 2010 as a Head Coach, and inducted into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2014. He should also be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the builder category, and be the next of the very few Canadians to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

 

Bill Dineen played four seasons for the St. Michael's Majors of the OHA from 1949 to 1953. He then played five seasons in the National Hockey League from 1953 to 1958. Four and a half seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, and half a season with the Chicago Black Hawks. He won the Stanley Cup twice with the Detroit Red Wings; 1954 and 1955.

 

Bill Dineen then played seven seasons in the American Hockey League for four different teams: Buffalo Bisons, Cleveland Barons, Rochester Americans, and the Quebec Aces. He then played seven seasons in the Western Hockey League; five seasons with the Seattle Totems, and two seasons with the Denver Spurs.

 

Bill Dineen then became a Head Coach for seven seasons in the World Hockey Association. Six seasons with the Houston Aeros, and one season with the New England Whalers. Bill Dineen and the Houston Aeros won the Avco World Trophy in 1974 and 1975. Then, for six seasons, from 1983 to 1989, Bill Dineen was the Head Coach of the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League, and they won the Calder Cup in 1986 and 1989.

 

Bill Dineen then became the oldest rookie coach in National Hockey League history (age 59), when he coached the Philadelphia Flyers, and his son Kevin Dineen, for two seasons, from 1991 to 1993, before being fired. Kevin Dineen played 18 seasons in the National Hockey League for five different teams: Hartford Whalers, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets. Bill Dineen passed away in 2016 at age 84.

Bill Dineen's son, Kevin Dineen, played 19 seasons in the NHL for 5 different teams from 1984 to 2003 (Hartford Whalers, Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets). He played 1188 games, scored 355 goals, 405 assists, 760 points, and in the playoffs he played 59 games, had 23 goals, 18 assists, and 41 points. He coached the Florida Panthers for three seasons from 2011 to 2014. He is currently the head coach of the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.
