I did another 10 this morning and the best was #2. Got #1 on #17.

60% of the time they actually moved back to 10 or 11.

It's not impossible just highly unlikely.

    Do they have a chance?

Not if they keep winning games, they need to go on their typical 10 games losing streak to get back in the sweepstakes for Bedard. Now if Chuck Fletcher somehow doesn't **** up the trade deadline and manages to get rid of some players for picks then the losing may come a lot easier after the deadline. But other teams like Arizona, Columbus and Chicago will be trying to do the same thing. So the Flyers' chances of ending up with the first overall are slim to none.

To be clear, I don't want to trade him, and it isn't that I don't like him.

The Flyers are horrible. They need to rebuild. To do that, they need assets in the system (draft picks), prospects who will develop into good NHL players, and some top end talent. They cannot get that through free agency. Decades of trying (I laugh when I type this) have proven it. So how do you get these things they need?

Well, the only real position of strength they have is in goal. They have nothing else. Oh maybe Farabee or TK, possibly Provy, can bring you a return, but not a significant one. Then of course, you have to replace the guy you move. However, if Errson is a legit number 1, and Hart is a stellar number 1, the drop off is not as drastic. And Hart is the one asset that might be able to bring you multiple impact pieces...i repeat, MULTIPLE. As suggest by the article I read, he could fetch two first round picks. For this franchise, that's gold.

    That's why you do it

I don't remember but Patrick Roy didn't get 2 first round draft picks when he got traded back in the 90's. As for trading Hart, the team that would trade for him would be a contender so those picks would be late first round picks which really wouldn't help the Flyers rebuild. They always say you build a team from the goalie outwards so the Flyers have a goalie to build around, now it's putting the pieces in front of him. Unfortunately, Fletcher isn't the man you want building that team.

So if they traded Hart, got a huge return, and put Errson in, that would be a good move? I read the top three guys in the draft are game changers. Any truth to that? Would they be more valuable to this team right now, having Ersson as a suitable replacement, than Hart would be?

If I'm not mistaken he's 24 years old, so in the next 6 to 10 years he'll be coming into his prime years as a goalie. If the Flyers management can't build a contending team around him in that time period then Flyers fans are screwed. The Flyers finally got a goalie so why would you want to trade him.

    nothing personal @Lindbergh31 but…

… I don’t understand why there’s so many posts like this one. I really don’t. Everyone knows that finishing dead last nets about a 20% chance of picking first. That’s it, 20 or maybe 21%. Are 1 in 5 odds really worth playing a whole season, 82 games’ worth, trying to lose as many as possible?

Even if you could get management on board …. which would never happen … I guess there’s just 2 players in the entire NHL who’d go along with sabotaging their own team’s effort to win. Now just because they both happen to play for the Flyers this year (🤮) is still no reason to pretend “tanking” is anything more than a silly pipe dream.

Unless they’re crazy-lucky, which they’ve never once been on draft day, the only way the Flyers get the #1 pick is if they trade for it. And god help us if it’s Fletcher doing the negotiating. Oh he’ll get Bedard alright but if you think the Flyers’ future is mortgaged now …

Grateful, I was being sarcastic but if the Flyers aren't going to make the playoffs I'd rather see them end up dead last to get the 1st overall pick then just miss the playoffs and get a middle 1st round pick.

Dont worry, we just beat some of the worst teams in the league. As soon as we face real competition we will start to lose again . Once the deadline  hits , we will start to unload some players and start to play some of the Phantoms. Rookie mistakes can lead to alot of losses when you are the lowest scoring team in the league.

One can only hope that's the case!

This dead where i am. I don't even watch hockey much at all it hurts too much. Not sure when/if it will change anytime soon.

I think you have hit it on the head for the majority of fans on this forum and the majority of die-hard Flyers fans in general, the current management has taken the passion out of the fanbase and unfortunately I don't see it changing anytime soon. Something has to happen to slap this management in the head to wake them up. I've watched one Flyers game this year to see how Hart is playing and it was hard to watch this team play. I miss the teams of the 70's and 80's and the Legion of Doom line of the mid to late 90's. Being 55 years old and a Flyers fan for almost 50 years I'm not holding my breathe that the Flyers will ever win another Stanley Cup before I pass away.

The team being bad because they lack the talent to compete happens in pro sports. As a fan, loyalty can carry you through in tough times. But like Aziz alludes to, this team is horrible because of bad management. It's all unforced errors. That's what makes it worse for me. In the past I lacked the knowledge to know the intricacies of how a franchise was managed, so I would stayed tuned in. But in this case, based on insight from this forum, I know why this team is suk. And I am insulted and offended. So I won't watch. Not because my absence affects them at all, but because they have stolen my passion. It is my opinion that this organization has put the financial success of the suits above the fan. They insult us by putting out a crap product, wrapping it in a furry orange costume, overwhelming us with loud music and overpriced beers, and highlight videos of miniscule success. They are cashing in on decades of success built on blood sweat and tears of teams from the past, and devoted fan loyalty. They know they will make money regardless of how we feel, or what actually happens on the ice.

They have stolen this fans passion and loyalty, and I hate it

Awesome post, anyone old enough to remember, CoachX description of the current Flyers is a lot like the Ballad's Leafs in the 70's and early 80's. Ballad didn't give a **** about the Leafs fanbase because he knew if he dressed 20 monkeys in Leafs uniforms the old Maple Leafs gardens would still sell out every night. Until the Flyers fanbase stays away from the arena, Scott and Comcast won't care about putting a competitive team on the ice.

Will anytime get better ? That is import question. Looking at standing Flyers is still trying collect some points and that is setting them to as 7th round pick, that is not great at all.

That is going last several years until be lucky draft/trade.

Just look at a very talent team like Edmonton - still being a wild card team. That is just one example, so with current Flyers management can be last for long time, before Flyers can even smell playoff game. Sad that is really bad feeling

I want the Flyers to keep losing not get more points. I hope there is a hockey god and the Blackhawks finish dead last but it's the Flyers who end up with the 1st overall pick (Bedard) to make up for the 2007 draft when the Flyers lost Patrick Kane.

I agree with Grateful. We need some offense to keep things interesting.  I stopped watching after two periods. The box score says a lot. We have limited top six production and the test have clay hands. An occasional lapse or deflection is impossible to make up.

Wow, the Flyers end up making a game of it, cheap call against the Flyers in the last minute of the game. But another loss closer to hopefully Bedard.

I think he's starting to figure it all out and over the next 2-3 years he'll start coming into his prime.

The obvious question is will this management realize it and put a competitive in front of him or will he be wasted like Giroux (and Lindros and....)

This is the million dollar question, will the Flyers brain trust build a competitive team in front of Hart. The Flyers finally have a homegrown goalie that they can build around with and hopefully they don't **** it up but my confidence in management isn't great.

Seemed like the Flyers never thought having a solid goalie was a big deal.

Till the year Snider watched Marty B bounce their asses in the playoffs and then insisted they need a stud goalie and well they effed up and thought that guy was Bryz.

Strangest thing about that is how many years did Snider watch Marty steal game after game and take his team to 3 Cups winning 3 before he realized this was a missing piece??

Only to then choose so badly on who that guy was he would sell the ranch for...

    :bonkingheadonwall:

I don't think it was Snider who thought you didn't need an elite goalie to win the cup it was Bobby Clarke who Snider thought of as a son and always took him at his word. Clarke probably thought he was more responsible for the Flyers winning the two cups in the seventies and not Bernie Parent!

Hmm..... good question. In terms of president of hockey operations, I'm moving Briere into that role. A loveable player that would make a great figurehead for the Flyers. After the debacle of Schmuck and Dave Scott, the Flyers really need to make a goodwill gesture and Briere would fit that.

As for GM, I went with one of the best GMs in junior hockey and someone who was screwed out of GM roles in Toronto and the New York Islanders - Mark Hunter. Great hockey mind and helped rebuild Toronto. Also did a fantastic job taking over in London of the OHL and rebuilding that program into a perennial power house.

In terms of Assistant GM, I'm going back to the OHL again and I'm bringing in James Boyd of the Ottawa 67s. Once again, another guy with a keen eye for talent and helped turn around a franchise that lost its identity after Brian Kilrea called it a career.

Mark Hunter is the reason the Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Mitch Marner instead of Hanifan. Hunter would be a good choice for GM or Pronger would be a good choice for GM. Briere would be a good choice for head of hockey ops.

At the risk of sounding impolite...

Why would Matthew Tkachuk want to be traded to Philadelphia?

What would the Flyers have that Calgary would want?

Should a team that just went 25-46-11 be trading for a guy who's due for a massive payday?

I'll stop asking questions and answer yours: no, I don't think the Flyers should (or even could) trade for him. The roster is (imo) bad enough that it warrants a rebuild, and not a re-tooling, and the Flyers need cheap young talent whose futures they control, not players whose qualifying offer is $9M with the salary going up from there. This isn't a situation where you could plug in a player of Tkachuk's quality, and all of a sudden you're a contender.

The Flyers have bigger fish to fry, imo.

I don't disagree with your reply, I'm hoping for a true rebuild but let's be honest with this Flyers Front Office being so ****ed up it wouldn't surprise me to see Fletcher do something stupid like trade for Tkachuk. That's why I asked the question.

We needed a legit pp qb...and honestly, these 2nd, 3rd, 4th picks are fools gold. 5% chance they ever amount to anything substantial. I'm more worried about Torts vs Tony...kid better toe the line.

I don't have a problem with this trade especially if that means Ellis is done. If that is true then maybe Fletcher can trade his contract to a team who needs the cap hit. As for the 2 year deal for Tony at least it's short term. As for Tort's it will be interesting to see how he is with Tony.

If he can help players become the best versions of themselves, teach them how to consistently play hard with good habits, install some organizational identity AND all of that carries over to the next coach/regime (and there will be a next coach/regime before a Cup is a reasonable possibility), then to me that’s a success.  In a way, I view Torts as a transitional coach.  Kind of like a Chief Restructuring Officer.  His job is to turn this team in the right direction after hitting rock bottom.  He may stick around as CEO or at least will have this team set up the right way for the next CEO.

Agreed, Torts is coming in to kick some asses and hold these players accountable for their play which isn't a bad thing. If things go off the rail next season at least the post game press conferences will be fun to watch with Torts. So what's the odds Fletcher trades the 5th overall pick for a quick fix.

...in an epic no holds barred ladder match!?

I say keep 'em both if possible.

They are both,  most likely, "what they are",(no one is suddenly going to get faster) however, both are also the age where non- superstar players become really good NHL players.

Their position is one that requires the 10k hours or pro sports equivalent to play well.

They both are coming into the # of games played where they've experienced almost all the situations.

I'd hate to see either traded and the other team gets all the benefits, after we've watched them struggle while learning.

Gun to my head, I say keep Provorov.  25 minutes a night is tough to replace. Even though he did pass the puck to the opposition in the slot too often, he wasn't terrible- he just didn't play to his standard.

I'd love to see both stay and Provorov have a full year with a veteran partner, but it wouldn't surprise me if Fletcher trades one of them this summer. It would be great to see players we draft and development stay with the Flyers instead of having to trade for players.

  17. Provorov has 3 years left @ $6.75 per year and Sanheim has 1 year left @ $4.675, if one is to be traded who would you like the Flyers to keep. Provorov seemed to regress and Sanheim had a good second half. Sanheim seems to have more potential but we didn't see what Provorov could do with a veteran partner like Ellis for a full year (which may not be possible going forward). What would the majority of Flyers fans on the forum want to see happen.

Almost right. If he had a plan he wouldn't have traded for Risto in the first place.

Trading him at the deadline for less than he paid, which would have happened, would have made him look like the total idiot he is and so he had to sign him to justify the trade for him.

Face it, they are blaming injuries and staying the course, all the way to the bottom.

Fair enough, the Flyers management will continue to use the injuries excuse to justify their stupidity.

A smart GM would be signing pieces the team needs or that are good long term solutions. Fletcher and Homer sign whoever they can that is UFA and on the downswing.

It's simple Fletcher has no plan going forward, he's just winging it. If he had a plan to rebuild properly then he wouldn't have signed Risto to the 5 year extension he would have traded him at the deadline for picks. Yes the Rangers had some luck but they had a plan to rebuild or retool as they like to call it.
