  1. How in the world did TOOL get brought into a Nickelback discussion? Tool has more originality in Maynard's left pinkie than Nickelback!

The funny thing is Nickelback has been with Roadrunner Records --- which distributed some of the best and heaviest bands in the world

since the early 90s (Sepultura, Slipknot, Machine Head, Soulfly, Zombie, etc) -- and they wrote some fairly decent heavy songs back in the day.....

but, once they had a Top10 hit -- I guess Roadrunner saw the coin possible w/ these guys -- and they basically ended up writing the same song,

over and over and over again..... and the girls kept buying it.

  2. I think both New Yawk teams (the Devils only PLAY in NJ, but they are another NY team, to me) handle their business tonight.....

I like the Devils to upset Florida 4-2..... they really, really outplayed the Panthers in Game 6.

I dont like the Rangers --- but they've been too solid all year to choke away at home after capturing Game 6 w/ their backs against

the wall --- so I see them winning a tight, close one 3-2 tonight, as well.....

    which means --

    Rangers play Capitals

    Flyers play Devils

I know Brodeur is old -- but I fear he finds the fountain of youth out of past flashbacks of all the times he's stone-walled us!

Still we are 5x deeper than the Devils..... just need Bryz to show up partially for us to win.

  3. Everyone on 97.5 The Fanatic was trashing the FLyers today for going to a Nickelback show!!

HAHAA!! Dam sellout Canadians..... all the tools to be a good hard rock band, yet they decided to be love-ballad sellout types the radio

played out to death.... and people wonder why everyone hates them..... the only guys that better go to that show better have been

drug there by their wife or a hot piece that's promised a little road head on the way home!!

  4. Thank you guys for posting this! Awesome stuff..... I always liked Richards as a pen-ALL-tee killer, but Giroux may be the most dangerous short-handed

    player in the league....

How about Clarkie forgetting his name at the draft? Uhhhh..... if you're drafting someone, shouldnt you know who he is dumb arse!

  5. I think the difference is that the Flyers simply (I know, not so simple!) maintained their level of play while doing a massive overhaul... the other teams, I think, really increased their standing from last year (though I was too lazy to check if that's true, lol).

Not diminishing the work of Homer, but I think that's probably how they evaluated it.

I understand that's how it may work, but they may as well call it "Comeback GM of the Year" or something..... I think its much more challenging and important to maintain consistency while turning over your roster and giving MORE hope for the future......rather than sucking and having one big year. While Andy Reid hasnt ever won the big one for the Eagles, that is also a main reason why he is so respected nationally.....

  6. LOL, based purely on those stats, I'm sure EVERY team would want to draw the Flyers.

That is until they get to the Flyers PP% --- a whopping 52% success rate! That's unreal....and downright scary....makes almost every illegal move a team makes

feel a huge amount of pressure that they just gave up a goal before the PP even happens..... that's pretty much what happened to the Pens.... but, they didnt

seem to "understand" that part w/ all their dumb "pen-ALL-teees" (as Max Talbot would say).

  7. I am not trying to play the hometown fan here, but no Holmgren? That is insanity! We lost Carter, Richards, Versteeg (not that it matters) Leino. Bring in a rookie to shut down the leagues top scorers, Schenn, Read, Talbot, Jagr (3 years removed from the NHL). He manages to stabilize the blueline by acquiring Grossmann and Kubina.

The only blemish that I see (and the jury is still out) is the Bryzgalov contract.

Other than that I agree with the selections above, but think the Holmgren should be in the mix somewhere.

Not only do I agree with all of that..... but it doesnt take a rocket scientist as GM to go out and acquire already established players..... I think one key fact left

out w/ the Flyers Org not mentioned w/ the other teams/GMs is we did alot of this w/ our own draft picks/rookies acquired.... and had such a wide margin in rookie pt scoring that the 2nd place team should have been on another list all together (@ 40 pts behind)...... its a downright sin Holmgren isnt mentioned above the guy from Florida....pfft.

  8. I liked these moves the second I heard them last summer..... but, thought they'd really come to fruition in another year or two.... I dont believe many thought

we could trade our captain and top goal scorer and the very next season become even BETTER!

But -- I liked them because it showed me, once again, the Flyers are the best run ORG in the city --- and they have a set of cajones over there....

these were the types of moves the PHILLIES needed to make a year or two ago (w/ guys like Utley, Howard, Rollins, etc) and now look at them?

Ancient, old, falling apart and probably couldnt score on a AA minor league team!

No matter what happens w/ the FLyers this year, its all gravy..... dont get me wrong, I want the Cup -- but I have so much more hope for the future now than

a year ago.... and in a strange way (havent seen anyone mention this point yet) this team has become 100x more LIKEABLE as well..... that goes along way

w/ the fans, too. Holmgren is easily the GM of the year around here.

  9. I think yesterday showed us and the Nation 2 important things....

1 - Claude Giroux is better than Sidney Crosby right now..... this series proved it in many ways. His all around game is stronger -- he's a better leader and a top world, "classy" talent.... not a dirty, little crybaby punk.

2 - We all know Giroux could likley be the defacto Captain moving forward --- but there are just special moments in a player's career

that define his birth into being a team Captain..... G'Roo telling Lavs "I dont care who you expect to start this game, but I WANT first shift!!"

and then going out and laying Crosby 2 feet off the ground onto his back, then stealing the pass and rifling a shot into the back of the net

in the first 35sec of a close-out playoff game is one of those special times we'll all remember......

  10. JVR skating on a line with Read and Voracek at practice today.

SO --- if I'm connecting the dots I think we'll be seeing

    LINE #1:

    Jagr -- Giroux -- Hartnell

    LINE #2:

Simmonds -- Briere -- Schenn (love this line!)

    LINE #3:

    Read -- JVR -- Voracheck

    LINE #4:

    Talbot -- Couterier -- Wellwood

No doubt, this adds some nice pop to the offense, (not like we needed it, lol) and Rinaldo is the equivalent target of a shiny, red Ferrari speeding down

a highway on a bright, sunny day -- but if I had a choice, I'd prefer to have Mezaros back before JVR....

our need for a defenseman is much bigger right now.... how can we have goaltending issues AND be missing like 4 defensemen? WTF.

  11. I don't believe in some supernatural power either, but there is no scientific or rational way I can find to explain this goaltending disaster that we are facing for more than 2 decades. I just can't.

The Flyers have been cursed at the Goalie position almost just as long as the Sixers have been cursed at the Center position after getting rid of Moses Malone.

  12. ONE team got to sit around for an extra day and be all fat n happy.... have everyone tell them how great they

are and start discussing next round possibilities....

the OTHER team had to hear for an extra day how terrible they are, how childish they've acted, to get pissed off

and rally together to make a statement they were not gonna go out w/ out showing what their team is really all about....

When you're on a roll, sometimes an extra break, even for a day, is the worst thing for your momentum.

  13. After the 1st goal I KNEW it was gonna be a long night (basic shot, easy to corale and not let a dribbler rebound go right in front of the net)

..... and by the 3rd goal, I was ready to pull him. Lavs was a few steps late w/ everything all night.... and the Flyers just looked like they didnt want to play

after the 1st.... I guess the expected the Pens to lay down after they grabbed the lead back?

  14. I hate these games when everything is set up perfectly for a win -- and that's when strange things happen.... some young call-up plays outta his skull

since he's getting a chance to play in the playoffs, the Flyers come in fat n happy -- facing a wounded animal -- and BOOM! they bite you in the *** before

    eventually dying.

  15. This is typical Bob Errey homer-drivel. The fact that it is one of his contractual obligations notwithstanding, it comes to him naturally.

    TERP --- completely off-topic here,

But I LOVE that you dug up that avatar of The BGWM..... Big Green Weenie Monster.

I dont know if you were around then.... but, one of my favorite memories of the old Philly.com Admin -- when we got SySop2 to paste that into everyone's browser as a pop-up on the forum late one afternoon......someone freaked out and thought they had a virus..... that shht was hilarious.

  16. BTW --- am I the only one that HATES we had to sit thru 2 off days in between games in the SAME CITY??!

I could get the delay in between Games 2 & 3 moving from one city to another..... but this extra day sucked.

When you're playing well -- you dont want to sit around...you want to keep the momentum going and w/ all the drama Pitss brough on themselves,

keeping in their heads and playing last night woulda been better....

    That SAID..... I still say:

    SWEEEEEEEEEPPPP!!!

  17. Bryzgalov - you better PLAY WELL TONIGHT you freaking head-case. Our offensive firepower should give Bryz a few goals to work with easily enough, then the TEAM D has to lock it down

This is the one key I'm really hoping to see tonight...... after scoring 20 goals in 3 games, the only thing that can make us more complete is to win the series and head into another with our goalie winning us a game..... I know its hard to say an 8-5 game was aided by your goalie, but I DO think Bryz was a big reason we won Game 2..... after being down big again, I believe 3-1 -- if he doesnt stand on his head and make some of those saves, we may not have been in a position to come back.

A stellar game from Bryzgalov is key if the Flyers want to make us all believers in their chances to win the East.
