    organization look like even more of a joke

     

    This organization can't get any worst. It's the lowest of the low right now and who cares what people think. Maybe taking the C off of Giroux will kick his a-s-s into gear. If not trade him. It's not like he can get any worst like others said. There has to be some accountability. I mean how long does Flyers fans have to wait. It's been over a year so far of him not living up to exception.

    Wow that's crazy Stolarz is a Flyer!!! My younger brother played with him on his High School team, Jackson Memorial Ice Hockey. I'm also from Jackson, NJ. I seen this kid play before he was pretty good.

    oh btw. My brother said Stolarz favorite team is the NJ Devils.

    At this point, Pronger may never play again, sounds dire, but given his age and how bad this concussion appears to be, it's not out of the question. Given the long term prognosis, naming a new captain only makes sense. Not disrespecting Prongs at all, it's just business....they need a new leader.Maybe naming Briere gives him a spark, he seems like the type to shoulder that type of responsibility with no problem....although Kimo would be a excellent choice also. Is this team cursed or what?

    This is true giving Briere Captaincy most likely will give him the boost he needs. Briere has experience of being Captain too.

    Jagr have been slightly better than I expected but I still think we could spend the 3M on something more fun. I honestly think Giroux had been this good anyway, Jagr or not. Dont take it away from Giroux. I think Jagr is washed up. If you take off your Jagr glasses you could see that he makes some really bad plays too, lazy penelties etc.

    I agree I might been kind of wrong. Jagr is better for our team than I expected but I still think we could get better for the money and that Jagr doesnt suit the O&B

    I have to disagree. Jagr might not be scoring or getting the most points for the 3M but he's helping Giroux become a superstar with tons of experience and leadership Jagr has. What would you get for 3M? Honestly think if you look passed the hatred and old age the 3million for a year is a great signing.

    Minnesota Wild sign 51-year-old backup; don’t play him, unfortunately

    Great story out of Minnesota on Wednesday, as the

    Minnesota Wild found themselves without a backup goalie the morning of their game versus the Nashville Predators. With Niklas Backstrom(notes) out for undisclosed personal reasons, Josh Harding(notes) got the start, and Houston Aeros' netminderMatt Hackett(notes) was called up to back him up.

    There was some uncertainty, however, over whether Hackett would be able to make it to the game on time, meaning the Wild had to get creative in dressing a contingency backup. Because league rules prohibit signing an emergency backup with pro experience, the Wild found themselves in the same position every road hockey team finds themselves pretty much every week: in desperate need of a goalie, and willing to take just about anyone.

    The solution: 51-year-old print shop owner

    Paul Deutsch(notes). From the Star-Tribune:

    Goalie coach Bob Mason called Deutsch at work at 3 p.m. The contract needed to be into the NHL offices by 4 p.m. He faxed it over, rushed to the arena and signed three more hard copies. He took over Backstrom's locker-room stall and got to sit through coach Mike Yeo's pregame meetings.

    "It's pretty intense," he said.

    Deutsch, a friend of Wild assistant coach Mike Ramsey, used to fill in during Minnesota's practices, on occasion, if a goaltender was injured. Of course, it's one thing to practice with a team. It's another to dress for a game.

    Needless to say, Deutsch was somewhat nervous.

    "I actually was shaking while I was signing [the contract]," said Deutsch, who filled in "Minnesota Roosevelt Junior Varsity defenseman -- 1978," as his previous team on the contract.

    Any trepidation he had was likely mitigated by the fact that Minnesota's opponent was Nashville, meaning there would probably only be six or seven shots directed his way.

    No word on whether the

    Tampa Bay Lightning are considering Deutsch as a trade deadline acquisition.

    This isn't the first time an inexperienced layman has been tapped to sit on an NHL bench.

    Backup

    Johan Hedberg(notes) got the start, but with their minor-league affiliate on the other side of the continent, getting third-stringer Alex Auld(notes) to Vancouver on time was an impossibility.

    Their solution: university student Chris Levesque, the third-string goalie for the UBC Thunderbirds.

    Why him? Aside from the fact that he bore a curious resemblance to the Sedins, UBC's starter and backup were on the road with the team. Levesque had stayed behind to study for a chemistry exam. He was in the library when the Canucks got ahold of him.

    Canuck fans fondly remember the moment when Hedberg was run over by Konstantin Kolstov and stayed down. Cameras cut to Levesque at the bench, gulping cartoonishly, as Trevor Linden assured him Hedberg would get up.

    He did, but it's a shame, because I bet he would have at least been better than Martin Brochu.

    Edit: Speaking of Thunderbirds' goalies, Levesque wasn't the only to dress for an NHL game. In January of 2011, the

    San Jose Sharks found themselves a goalie short just prior to a game in Vancouver versus the Canucks and pulled sophomore Jordan White from the UBC campus to back up Antti Niemi(notes) for the night.

    Briere, Bryz, Simmods and Harts (sometimes) are performing below expectation.

    Briere is a good candidate for trade he needs to refresh.

    This team is a working progress, it's going to take them sometime to get their chemistry for Simmods and Briere. I think Harts been playing good this year compared to the beginning of last year. I'm expecting this team to have it's ups and downs. For Bryz he needs start playing like a 51 million goalie.
