Who knew Walker was a critical piece of this team…….
He wasn't.
Just because one tire isn't bald doesn't mean it's a critical piece.
Get real - this team has no critical pieces.- 2

And we're "further along than we thought" and the "culture" is fixed and we have FALLEN IN LOVE WITH JOURNEYMAN WAIVER WIRE PICKUPS WHO ARE ESSENTIAL TO OUR CULTURAL REBUILD.
It's insane.
God, having to listen to this drivel all season was driving me nuts.
It's one thing for the team to say this - they are getting paid to.
It's another for fans to delude themselves like this.- 1

Couturier was my favorite Flyer since the end of his rookie season, but I wanted him traded the deadline before he signed his extension (and said so here) because:
- he was their biggest trade chip to replenish their assets and start the rebuild (that still hasn't started);
- it was obvious his age, skills, and salary didn't match where the team was talent-wise.
It's not hindsight if you say it ahead of time.
I am going to continue to say this: trade Konecny and don't make the same mistake again.

Oh, c'mon now, we had the greatest player in the world knock him on his ass and then score a goal - in the playoffs(!) - and that guy went on to become so successful and overwhelming as an influence on the league that his greatest achievements were the John Scott All Star Game MVP, the longest tenured captain in the history of the franchise, and a seven-time Toyota Cup three stars winner.
The impact of that hit limited Crosby to three Cups, two Ross, two Hart, three Lindsey, two Messier, two Richard. and two Conn Smythes. As well as being named to the All Decade Team for the 2010s (second All Decade Team 2000s), and a five time winner of the A.T. Caggiano Memorial Booster Club Award (no, seriously).
So, he really showed him.
Hit him again...
Only Flyers fans can be deluded into thinking Crosby wouldn't have succeeded against them the last 20 years if we just hit him some more.
Instead of being mad at Crosby, you should be mad at the Flyers for icing such crappy teams since Crosby has been in the league. It's no coincidence he has scored more points against the Flyers than any other team.
If he were on the Flyers, you would love every minute of it, just like fans loved Clarke.- 2

It would have been better if he wasn't here because the team would have been clearly worse and maybe the front office would have realized what they had (it should have been obvious but apparently Little Danny Briere is dumb).
It doesn't really matter if he is here or not because he isn't a wizard who can turn rusted spare parts into an F1 car. He will be long gone (or be GM) by the time they are relevant again.

I can't wait til they do the exact same thing next year, and we're having the exact same conversations about about veteran leadership and how the playoff run that doesn't materialize will benefit the team more than a high draft pick. And then wonder why this team is always in the same place it is.
Yep, same every year. The same people get excited about the organization making nothing moves (bringing in a nobody, bringing up a middling prospect, or getting rid of a poster's new least favorite player) and think the organization has now figured out the new secret sauce that no one else has figured out (how to win without rebuilding). It's tiring.

IMHO, 2 things need to happen for the mediocrity to end. First they need to get out from under the albatross contracts.
They won't be able to get out from under the albatross contracts (mainly Couturier) until the contract is over. What needs to happen is stop giving out the albatross contracts.
If they re-sign Konecny, he will be an albatross contract.

Is he too old to fit the Michkov timeline?
Yes.

The organization wasted another season and another deadline not doing the things that have to be done.
The house has had termites in it for 30 years. You can put up wallpaper or knock it down and start over. The clock on the rebuild doesn't start until they do.

I do think some information has been gathered about some players and whether or not they should be kept for the future or used to acquire some other assets.
None that wasn't apparent on the first day of the season my friend.
The only ones who didn't know it were in the front office and on this board.

But that Adam Oates playoff run (5 games) really taught the young players all about the playoffs.

because billions of dollars aren't at stake on your daily commute?
For a professional sports team to lose on purpose is ****** dumb.
Kinda like comparing tanking to wearing a seatbelt?
I will explain my analogy, since you maybe didn't get it.
You said:4 hours ago, mojo1917 said:If tanking guaranteed winning, why then are there zero championship banners hanging in the Mullet arena in Phoenix?
Of course there are no guarantees. My point was, doing a full rebuild, like wearing a seatbelt, maximizes your chances. Why not do that?
You might say, "well I don't want to watch a rebuilding team" and that is understandable because watching a rebuilding team is not fun, at least early on. But I can't say I have had much fun watching this team in a very, very long time.

Simply put, because there was a chance. A hope. and a lot of people are sports fans who are passionate and hopeful. There is nothing wrong with that. Any fan of the Flyers who hoped they would make the playoffs, or hoped they’d win a series, should not be brow beaten, insulted or shamed. It’s their right as a fan to root in any manner they see fit
as far as I can tell, management didn’t abandon the rebuild to chase the playoffs. They held out hope because winning games for your fan base is the ultimate responsibility. I think they did both. And now, for obvious reasons, the team fell short. There will be a lot of off season changes to the lineup. The criticism however will continue. It’s as guaranteed as homer and his lackeys were clueless
No one is saying you can't root for the team however you want. If you're happy just watching the make the first round again, nothing anyone says here should affect that and it's perfectly valid.
As befits a team that has one playoff series win in the last 12 years, 90% of the discussion on the Flyers' board is about how this team is going to get better, what moves to make, etc. etc. How one roots for the team has no bearing on that. Passion has nothing to do with that. Hope has nothing to do with that.

Wearing a seatbelt while driving doesn’t guarantee I don’t die in a car crash, so why bother?
-
I've been saying this for at least three years. Every year they don't tear it all down is delaying them tearing it all down by another year. They are going to have to tear it all down to win anything, so they are just delaying the inevitable and accomplishing nothing in the meantime.

Some people are never going to learn apparently.

Konecny is their only real trade chip and if they sign him long term instead of trading him they are not serious about rebuilding. It's that simple.
There is zero chance of this organization successfully pulling off a retool by just picking where they usually do and struggling to find one playable but not exciting player every draft.

We saw guys take a huge jump forward in their development,
Which guys were that? Tippet maybe?
I don't see Morgan Frost barely eking out 50 points as a huge jump.
York played pretty well and he has maybe the most untapped upside of any current player on the team, but huge jump, no way.I can't think of another possibility.

They sank. This off-season should signal that there's going to be no more band-aid solutions. This should be nothing more than a full teardown and rebuild. Briere might have talked last year about how they weren't going to strip things down, but remain competitive and rebuild at the same time. That's no longer an option. Let the blood letting begin this offseason. As what Tortorella said, don't get attached to anyone. Other than maybe Foerster, Brink, Tippett, York, Sanheim, Drysdale, Ersson and Fedotov, everyone else should be getting shopped.
There is absolutely no new information they have now that they didn't have last year when Briere took over, or this offseason, or at the deadline. If they were going to do this, they would have done it then.
My guess is we are going to hear a lot of, "we were at top 3 team in the division until almost the end" kind of talk. I wish I was wrong.

It's incredible to me that this organization could have gone through the retool not rebuild Hextall and Fletcher years and want to do the exact same thing again. Yet here we are.

They really the bed (again), re-signing this guy.
Its beyond me why they chose to do it....in the middle of a rebuild
And yet they are going to do it again with Konecny.

That makes perfect sense but for the rebuild Briere is doing a tight PO race is better than a somewhat higher pick.
I would like to see some data to back up this drivel. Making the playoffs hasn't help them make the playoffs again the next year since 2011.
I would take the top 8 draft pick over whatever they are going to get this year.

I wish this implosion would have happened in February instead of April.
It's not an implosion. This is the kind of team you get when you have nothing but mids.

Ok, I'm done now (no one post anything dumb I have to respond to).
I will leave it at this: rooting for anything other than a full teardown at this point is getting in line for seconds at the feces buffet.
