I am not assuming none of the guys on the Flyers will improve. Is their production going to increase by 50%? Or double? I don't think so.
-
Watching a team like the Florida Panthers and wondering, outside Konecny, is there a single Flyer who would play on their top 2 lines?
And yet we are going to somehow compete with a team like them within 3 years?
-
People who don’t like paying attention to the cap and contracts are rooting for the perfect team, because the Flyers don’t pay attention to them either.

I thought he retired in the second period of Game 6 against the Islanders in 2020.

I certainly can't predict the future either, but I'll say that with regard to offense (and that's the only reason to have Zegras around) players peak much sooner than a lot of people think:

Not every player develops at the same rate and at the same ages, but Zegras is the point of his career when we can begin to expect less and less growth, scoring-wise. We'll have to see how it goes with him.
What age is Konecny again?
So many people on this board still think it's the pre-cap era - they think AAV and years don't matter, and they think the game is still clutch and grab, so players in their 30s are in their prime instead of over the hill.

Just because the idiots prior to Briere did things a certain way, doesn't mean he is going to.
Lol, he already has.

In my rebuild that is 2 mill per too much.
2mill they could have used to take on assets for picks or prospects later.
If this was a push for the playoffs maybe just maybe this would make some sense but it's a rebuild - but oh wait nevermind.
You keep making my points for me, lol. What's this world coming to?

Ha, ha. Danny Briere is one dumb mfer. Maybe he was scared some team in Outer Mongolia was going to outbid us for the future superstar.
Is Fedotov is going to be the new Morin? A huge player that Flyers fans will insist is going to be good despite all available evidence that they are a gangly mutant who can't play.

His off-season signings were the foundation for this team achieving what it did (regardless of how we might feel about it).
Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

this is a rebuild, to you you have to tank to rebuild and yet you learned nothing from buffalo, ottawa, phoenix, never ending making the playoffs and the toronto maple leafs with their top 5 superstars cant beat the boston bruins, that have no top 5 guys. it doesnt sound like it's about winning cups, it's about getting superstars and not care if they crap the bed like matthews.
1) you know nothing about hockey and you thought Fletcher was doing a good job. Go away.
2) there is no such thing as tanking.

Just like a lot of people here predicted, the organization has no stomach for a rebuild. All their talk last year was just that: talk. The second there was a straw to grab to avoid a rebuild they grabbed it.
QuoteFor about four and a half months, the rebuild looked expedited. The Flyers held down third place of the Metropolitan Division for over two months before falling into the eight-game spiral. They finished the season with 13 wins over top-10 teams and they saw promising contributions from a number of young players.
Maybe their timeline is coming into focus.
It's one of those questions where it's not black and white like maybe it was last summer," Briere said.
This team is doomed. The organization has learned nothing. It’s business as usual in Flyerland.- 1

Yes, we have made progress.
Citation needed.
I don't see anything different from the last several years, other than fewer players I hate. That doesn't mean more players that are actually good.

If Michkov is coming over early does that change the calculus for anyone?
No

I think unless Michkov can join the team, they will be worse next year.
A lot of what I think will happen will depend on the Michkov timeline.
If the Flyers aren't saying anything about how they got Fedotov maybe that means they have those people working on the bigger fish. If Michkov is in play, then extending Konecny isn't the worst move. But there are other threads to come for that nonsense.
They got Fedotov out because he sucked and he got cut by his team.
Michkov can't do it by himself. I don't want another Lindros - a star player going to battle every game with half a team of pluggers.
They need to get assets now that have half a chance of being good when Michkov is in his prime. Waiting 3 years to get Michkov help isn't going to work.- 1

Hey, come on....Torts coached a non-playoff caliber team all the way to out of the playoffs!
Lmfao, this is the entire season in a nutshell.
Absolutely nothing accomplished other than getting the worst draft pick a team this bad should be getting.

what they gave up. You make a safe move that doesn’t cost anything
We had to destroy the season to save the season.

there isn’t anyone on this forum that is against them rebuilding
Yet there are plenty here who are against moves that make the team worse the next year or two but might make the team better in four years.
It would be amazing if there were a word for moves like that when used as part of a coherent strategy.

The same people that are against the rebuild are the same people who can't figure out why the team never gets better. I'm sure there is no connection.

I see. So it's basically a crap shoot. I accept that if we're talking about where the Flyers are now. But earlier in the season they played consistently good, fast hockey - goaltending was solid - and it wasn't a crap shoot at all.
Certainly ACBA is "the bottom line" it's just not very helpful.
Helpful to what?

any knowledgeable hockey mind would anticipate that declining with age.
Well, yes, but what about the Flyers organization?

Maybe this is the turning point and it’s all Stanley Cup from here, lol.

what a whackjob team....
I'd love to believe in the Flyers, in Jones/Briere and Tortorella but how can I? What kind of team spends weeks sabotaging their PO hopes then goes into MSG and beats maybe the best team in the NHL? Beats them convincingly too. This team makes no sense to me.
It's like a switch was flipped back to "ON" and last night they started playing professional hockey again. whackjobs...
You are just the weirdest person. There is no switch. The Flyers' points percentage is .531, while the Rangers is .688, a difference of .157. I could be completely off, but that would suggest that at worst that the Flyers would be expected to get about 35% of the points when playing the Rangers, which is winning about 1 in 3 games. (Someone please correct me if my math is off.) We are also talking a handful of games between them, so the difference between winning 1 of 4 vs. 2 of 4 is a huge swing.
Maybe I will start a Grateful Dead thread where we can geek out on shows, because I don't get your views on hockey. But I'm worried you are going to come along and tell me the Brent years are the best era. -

The only positive Fletcher has ever done was getting Tippet & a 1st rounder for Giroux. Otherwise.....................
Think what they could have gotten if they traded him a year or two earlier.

Michkov may be here this summer
in Philadelphia Flyers

The article says he “could” come over this summer. He “could” also drink a pint of polonium, too.
