Not necessarily true.  Not when that forward can skate well.  And Cutter does skate well.  Just look at Kreider as one clear example.  A player that Cutter is actually compared to by a number of sources.

Yes, big and slow does not work in the NHL, and hasn't for years.  But, when size and skating ability can be found it's rare.  I still believe he was selected to high.  But, he does have some strengths to his game.  And, comparing him to JVR is so far off.  Just watching Cutter's game at this point in his career clearly shows that.

Hope you are right, but I will reserve my decision.

I still say power forwards are over rated.

I'm curious where this is coming from. I've never personally read anything to suggest they had locker room issues. I'm not saying you're wrong by the way. It's entirely possible I just haven't seen the sources on this. I don't spend all day digging for stuff. 😉

I would say locker room issues as in no real leadership.

    My opinion though.

If Konecny is going to be traded, what should the Flyers get back? On a good team with good linemates Konecny would definitely be a 30 goal scorer. So I would think, he's worth a high first round pick and a good prospect. If we traded him at next year's deadline,  we would get even more.

Let's say at the draft we pick Jiricek and then a team like Columbus or Ottawa offers us their pick and a good prospect for Konecny , then we can pick Savoie or Gauthier. Short term it hurts the team to lose Konecny,  but considering we are 4-5 years away from being good and Konecny will be an UFA in three years. I think trading him is the way to go.

So the question is...does it pay to keep him or build for the future. If Flyers management was realistic,  they would make that kind of trade realizing that we are gonna suck for the next three years, so why keep Konecny for 5.5 million, when you have a bunch of right wing prospects like, Allison, Tippett, Foerester and Brink.

We are gonna need cap space to sign some of our young guys and Sanheim is going to be an UFA after this season. If we make a trade at the draft we can fill two needs with a defenseman and a center. Fletcher also needs to see if Sanheim wants to stay, if he doesn't, then he has to be traded too.

Sorry, but I just don't see any team giving a first round pick in this draft year let alone a prospect and pic.

Hope I'm wrong though, would love to see the shelves stocked again.

But this is Fletcher we are talking about so he probably trades our first rounder and Konecny for a prospect.

what do you want in a coach? someone that's throwing parties at the bench like that's why the sens, sabres, coyotes are a train wreck, there's no accountability.  look at the teams that have won cups, that are all no nonsense coaches. im not expecting a cup right now but at least you try to install a winning culture that keeps this team winning every year until some luck comes around and we eventually get over the hump. it took tampa seven years to get over the hump, you have to be patient.

Quite honestly this franchise will be a joke till Fletcher is fired.

Am I happy with Torts... No, but short term he might be ok.

But you can't play with the big dogs with a kennel full of puppies.

And that is what this team is full of and Fletcher keeps signing sub-par players to top end player money.

Ever? Or just the first season?

A player like that could, over let's say 5 years, help turn the team around

I dont know why everyone argues their POV from the "immediate results" strategy 🤔

IMO it's hard to rebuild a competitive team around one high priced star. Not saying he couldn't help the team down the road.

But then you end up with a player like Giroux on the down side of his career trying desperately to help a week-ish team to make a playoff run.

Again IMO you are better off spreading that money out to sign a few mid range FAs to build a core of decent hard working players. Then when the team is competitive game in and game out then go out and sigh your high end talent when the team is ready to win. This team is no where ready to win or take the last step.

  6. A high priced FA like Johnny Hockey will not get this team to the playoffs. This team already has too many overpriced players, Hayes, JVR and  Ristolainen all three are overpaid for what they bring to the team, not to mention Ellis.

Fletcher needs to focus on bringing in mid tier FAs to build the core of this team.

As for your question, yes I think they could afford to bring in JG but it would take some major moves and I personally think it would be a mistake.

But hey, this is Fletcher we are talking about so...........

I loved Sami. But I also loved Briere.  B. Clarke was most first favorite as a kid, and Tocchet was a God in my house

I dont want any of them making decisions for this team

    Post of the week.

    well done.

  8. Fletcher has been repeating the same spiel all year. Yet is is still giving out long term contracts to marginal players and overpaying them to boot.

No way in hell this team will be competitive in the next three years.

Yes they are that bad with little talent in the pipeline.

Remember a couple high end youngsters won't make this team magically good.

Fletcher got fleeced on the Ellis no two ways about that, so I sure don't trust him with a goalie out rebuild.

Whoever the brilliant minds bring in to coach, I just hope they get us Connor Bedard.

I'll say Neal Broten. Never coached a day in his life. Minnesota North Stars alltime leading scorer though. And he's from Minnesota. If Homer and Fletch read this, consider it a done deal.

That kid can play some hockey, sure would love to see him in Flyer Orange.

As for HC they need to hire some hard ass coach that will change the attitude of this lazy ass team.

Thanks for defining the job description,  I had no idea the GM's job was to build a competitive team. 🙄

Tippett is 23 and has now played 95 NHL games. He is most likely not done developing.

Of the choices: Giroux does not get moved then walks for nothing in F/A because the Flyers are rebuilding. Or the Flyers get a few picks a prospect and room to sign college kids with promise.

I choose door #2  all day everyday.

    YMMV

Well with you saying Fletcher was a nice guy to send prospects Bunnaman, & Rubstov to just give them a chance to play.

I thought you might have needed a refresher as to what a GM's job entailed. Which is to improve the team he works for not to give away prospects just so they get a chance to play. That is laughable.

Just want to comment on a couple of things.

First,  thanks for taking up the voice of moderation mantle.

Second has to do with Rubstov and Echo & the Bunaman.

I have read the idea behind including those two is to A) open up contracts to sign college players and B) give those guys a shot elsewhere because they are not in the plans going forward.

So again,  Chuck's move isn't made in a vacuum nor borne of idiocy.

I would much rather have Noah Cates and Bobby Brink in the system than 2 guys we know aren't "it".

Also Chuck is again flashing his decent human credentials by give those 2 players a chance elsewhere.

Sorry Fletchers job is to make this team better not to give assets away just so they get a chance to play.

Fletcher F'ed this up royally. He got the least amount possible for Giroux and did next to nothing to improve this teams future outlook.
