  1. Their GM should be shot for that trade.

Next in line should be whoever scouted Carter and told the GM that Carter was a play making center for Nash.

While you can't really label him as selfish he is a very dimensional player. He shoots from all angles. Top 5 in the league in shots in the past couple years should really tell you something. Christ, all the scout and the GM had to do was just do a few stat searches on the internet to figure that out. Must have been more to it. Maybe getting another "big" name in there to drawl fans? Wouldn't be my first choice for that reason either.

  2. Disappointed with Simmonds in a big way.

Briere right now is causing me some discomfort, but he does not have his old line mates, so I'm not surprised.

JVR....not ready to give up on him, as he shows hints of what he could become, but "Mighty G" he is not

JVR - I expected this. After such an amazing playoffs last year, he didn't have any more room to go up - only down. I think that was JVR's ceiling.

Briere - He's up and down and always has been. But it's different then Hartnel's being up for 3 weeks, down for 3 weeks roller-coaster. IMO Briere goes for a good 4-5 months and then back down for a month or 2. I think by the new year you'll see him back up to 2 goals every 4-5 games. Just a guess obviously.

  3. From Matthew Barry

    Mike Richards

Remember the days when we had Jason Allison and the second line center was Jozef Stumpel? Richards is exactly what the Kings have been looking for in a 2nd line center for decades and he’s proving to be exactly as advertised. It took a while for him to get used to his new teammates, but short handed goals, power play goals and a +3 defensively Richards will only get better. GRADE: A

    Simon Gagne

Probably Lombardi’s best signing yet and benefiting not from playing with his old linemate in Richards but on the top line with Williams and Kopitar and has repeatedly come up with timely goals. GRADE: A

    Justin Williams

I’m still not convinced he’s first line material but he’s been working his tail off this season and is making Kopitar and Gagne look really good. Last season at this time Williams had 9 goals and 12 assists and didn't have a consistent left winger, so 3 and 12 is a bit of an underperformance from him. Lets hope he stays healthy. GRADE: B

  4. Watch out for the B's. Eighth straight win.

From dead-last in the conference to 7th.

Very strong defensive core and a good mix of toughness and skill.

I think any team trying to make it to the finals is going to have to go through this team

    From Matt Kalman:

The Bruins got at least one goal from each of their top three lines plus two goals from their defense in a 6-0 road rout of the New York Islanders tonight.

Center Chris Kelly was the big producer with two goals and one assist, his first three-point game as a Bruin.

Kelly now has four goals and two assists in the Bruins’ last four games. The Bruins have won eight in a row.

Tim Thomas recorded a pretty easy shutout with just 23 saves. He was particularly untested in the first period, when the Bruins outshot the Isles, 13-2. Thomas now has 28 career shutouts, which put him third on the Bruins’ all-time list.

The Bruins are now among the top eight teams in the Eastern Conference and are just two points back of first place in the Northeast Division, as they head to Montreal for a showdown with the hated Canadiens Monday night. The last time the Bruins faced Montreal, they lost both ends of a home-and-home series. They haven’t lost since.

  5. @Vanflyer

I think this is where the Kings were expected to be. The addition of Richards was supposed to help get them over the top, and may just do that. I don't think the Doughty contract helped with the team spirit much, but they'll get over it.

I was a little surprised by their slow start but weren't they in Europe to start the season? That tea, is going to be good for years to come. I'd rather not see the flyers face them in the finals. I fear it would lead to that empty feeling again. Although if the flyers don't make it to the finals I would like to see LA win. Time is running out for gagne's head.

  6. On one play last night, he drove to the net, was pushed behind the net by a Coyote player, and then still reached back with his stick enough to just poke the puck loose and keep the play alive

I remember that. He almost scored on that too.

  7. Here's the article in English.

By the American Thanksgiving (a week), several general managers will try to move to improve their team. A name that is currently circulating is that of Jeff Carter.

Not that the Blue Jackets want to get rid of its services, but because it would require a transaction.

This information comes from Columbus, and many CEOs hold it now.

Is that when I contacted the agent Jeff Carter, Rick Curran, the latter told me that his client has NOT charged a transaction, contrary to rumors.

The question is however whether Carter likes to Columbus? He has amassed only 3 assists in 7 games, he is recovering from a broken foot.

    -

Speaking of transaction, the Islanders will have to decide on their guards.

If you can not get rid of Rick Dipietro because of his contract, it is not easy on the side of Evgeni Nabokov has a no-trade clause.

That leaves Al Montoya. He knows a good season (2-2-1 2.44 .926%) and it is very possible that it is sold. One thing is certain, the threesome will not even last very long with the Islanders.

    -

The Flames have decided to lend the services of Mitch Wahl to the Hamilton Bulldogs for the remainder of the season.

Wahl is a second-round pick of the Flames in 2008 and tried by every means to keep his place. He also played five games in the East Coast League this season and scored five goals and collected two assists. It is a center player who has had great success at the junior level, with the Spokane Chiefs.

Some twit person put this up -- >

Rumor that #bluejackets Jeff Carter ask for a trade. His agent said not true. That's my story on rds.ca.

Someone suggested Kaberle and a 1st for Carter. I don't think I understand that one.

  8. The poise of a veteran but the heart of a kid.

He never gives up on a play which reminds me of the was Richards *can* play. He creates his own chances and takes advantage of them when he gets them. Rookie of the first 1/4 of the season. Let's see if he can hold together for 82 games

  9. Here's the internet game feed - http://www.firstrowsports.tv/watch/92502/1/watch-philadelphia-flyers-vs-phoenix-coyotes.html

    From Bill Meltzer

After taking 5 of 6 points on their three-game southern road trip, the Flyers (10-4-3) briefly return home tonight to take on the pesky Phoenix Coyotes (9-4-3, 5-1-1 on the road). The game starts at 7 PM EST and will be broadcast locally on CSN Philadelphia.

The game marks the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. The Flyers have lost their last two games against Phoenix. Last season, Phoenix took a 3-2 overtime decision in Philly behind 37 saves from Ilya Bryzgalov and an overtime power play goal by Shane Doan. Philadelphia's Claude Giroux tied the game with 1:13 left regulation to send it to overtime, while Ville Leino scored the game's first goal in the opening period.

Tonight's big pregame story, of course, is that the game marks Bryzgalov's first game after the Coyotes since coming to Philadelphia. He'll be opposed in net by Mike Smith (2.19 GAA, .933 save percentage).

Smith, who is one of the best puckhandling goalies in the NHL and has a huge frame, has had an uneven history against the Flyers. Overall, in 10 games played against Philly, Smith has a 4-4-1 record, but an unimpressive 3.66 GAA and .884 save percentage.

In Phoenix's last game, the club captured a 3-2 win via shootout in Toronto on Tuesday. The skills competition win erased any negative feelings about being unable to hold an early 2-0 lead. Typically, the defensive-minded Coyotes are a hard team to play catch-up against but is far from an offensive juggernaut.

On special teams, the Coyotes have a very solid penalty kill (87.3 percent) but little power play punch (15.1 percent). Veteran forward Ray Whitney (6 goals, 15 points), Radim Vrbata (6 goals, 13 points), Doan (5 goals, 11 points) and defenseman Keith Yandle (1 goal, 9 points) trigger the Phoenix offense.

Although it has been many years since Danny Briere wore a Coyotes uniform, he usually gets up for games against the team that drafted him and with whom he broke into the NHL. This will be just the fifth time in his career that he's played against Phoenix, because he's played in the Eastern Conference ever since. Briere managed only one assist in last year's game against Phoenix in Philly but his line had a dominant game, and he snapped four shots on goal in addition to hitting the crossbar on a play where he had Bryz beaten.

  10. Take it for what it's worth - it's from ESPN

Our first Hart Trophy look this season. It’s still early, but six weeks into the season, we can start to have fun and identify some candidates. Speaking of fun, thank you to the massive list of Twitter followers who responded to our Hart Trophy question. To show how democratic we are at ESPN.com, your responses have largely influenced this list:

    3775.jpg

    1a. Claude Giroux, Philadelphia Flyers

We chatted with Flyers coach Peter Laviolette last week, and what impressed him the most about Giroux was his all-around game. Forget that he’s challenging for an NHL scoring title, there’s so much more to his game than that. He plays 200 feet, plays the penalty kill and plays against the opposition’s top line, and he is out there late in games. Oh, and he’s from Hearst, Ontario.

    nhl_u_kessel_65.jpg

1b. Phil Kessel, Toronto Maple Leafs

You can make an argument he’s just as deserving at this point as Giroux. No question about it. We loved this Hart Trophy response via Twitter from @blairvincent, “As a Habs fan, I hate to say this, but it’s got to be Kessel.” Well, if a Montreal fan can find it in his heart to say that, you know Kessel is deserving. He leads the NHL with 13 goals and 25 points. His all-around game is not as complete as Giroux, but kudos to Kessel for his plus-9 rating.

    3539.jpg

    3. Kris Letang, Pittsburgh Penguins

Fifth in the NHL in ice time at 26:46 per game and putting up a point a game, we wonder where the Penguins would be without their all-world blue line, given Sidney Crosby’s absence and all the other injuries the Penguins have had. He plays in all key situations. He’s a horse and he’s a huge reason why the Pens keep rolling along.

    3183.jpg

    4. Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings

When you consider that the Kings are only 23rd in the NHL in offense, not to mention some of the overall struggles they’ve had this season, you have to wonder how much worse things would be without Kopitar’s 21 points (8-13) in 17 games this season -- fifth in NHL scoring. Says @potvinrocks via Twitter: “Kopitar has points on like 65% of Kings goals.”

    445.jpg

    5. Nikolai Khabibulin, Edmonton Oilers

The old goat has a .945 save percentage and has spearheaded Edmonton’s stingy defensive record and surprising start to the season.

Honorable mentions: Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers; Tyler Seguin, Boston Bruins; Kari Lehtonen, Dallas Stars; Thomas Vanek, Buffalo Sabres; Marc-Andre Fleury and James Neal, Pittsburgh Penguins; Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks; Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars; Shea Weber, Nashville Predators.
