  1. @flyercanuck

Yeah I was a little surprised this sold out, STH had to buy this game to get Monday's game but that only accounts for 18k tix (according to the Flyers). Selling another 22-26k tix for an alumni game is awesome, people obviously really wanted to be a part of this. Taking my pre-teen daughter today, should be alot of fun

  2. Now 3 PM....

  3. As seen from section 28, last row up. Long live the Spectrum!!!

1-1987 Final Game 6 vs Edmonton. I couldn't describe it, it was like a dream. Youtube it.

2-1987 Semi-Final Game 6 vs Quebec. Poulin's 5 on 3 shorthanded breakaway goal off his own great steal near the defensive blueline. Wow.

3- 1987 (it was a very good year) Quarterfinal Game 7 vs NY Islanders. Poulin has busted ribs but gets shot up with novocaine (according to legend), hits everything in sight and goes after every loose puck, Flyers pepper Kelly Hrudey for a 3-zip lead. Poulin leaves after the first and doesn't return, if I remember correctly.

4-1978ish regular season vs Cleveland Barons. I'm 11 at the time, started feeling sick on the car ride up, puked in the Spectrum parking lot (as would happen pre-concert in the future, more than once). Somehow convinced Dad I was ok and we should go in. Wildest bench clearing brawl I ever witnessed, I swear I remember Dave Hoyda banging a guy's head against an exposed goal peg

5-1995 Quarterfinals vs the Rangers Games 1 and 2. Two OT wins to start the series, after 5 years out of the playoffs, we're back bitches!!!

    In the new building.....

1- 2004 Game 6 vs Tampa. My then 11 year old son was just really getting into hockey, late 3rd period it looks he's about to experience his first heartbreaker in person. I'm trying to figure out something sage to say to him for the walk to the car, then Primeau ties it, put the team on his back and willed the tying goal. Gagne in OT. Instead he got to see a playoff win the fans will always talk about.

2-2000 Game 7 vs the Devils. When Stevens laid Lindros out, I knew the series and his career were both over. I was a little wrong about the career, but but he never wore O&B again.

  4. Interesting....for the last 35 years my understanding of penalty shot rules was that the player had to keep moving toward the net, the rule they're citing says it's the puck that must keep moving. So in that case I agree with the ruling of good goal, at the time I really thought it should have been disallowed. Learn something new every day...

  5. Well I can tell you this much, it was painful watching the Rags wins a Cup after losing out on the Lindros sweepstakes, and watching the Avs take some of that depth we traded them and winning their own Cup a few years later. So in the end the Flyers appear to be the loser....but I can't say for certain the Flyboys would have won a Cup without the trade being made. Roy was the key to the Avs first Cup, if he hadn't had that falling out with Habs management (demanded a trade after coach failed to pull him from a game in which he got shelled for 7 or 8 goals) the Avs may not have won it all. Agree that Hextall is the X factor in any analysis of would the Flyers have won a Cup, he never recaptured the form of his rookie season, and frankly looked lost in a Nordique then an Islander uniform.

  6. phlfly - If you're scouting for tickets, be aware that sight lines outdoors are going to be much different than inside. With the relative distance from the stands to the ice, lower level seats probably provide the worst sight lines in the house. Best seats possible would be behind home plate in the 300 level....which of course all went the corporate boxholders right out of the chute

  7. In all seriousness, I like a tough guy on the team, a policeman to put fear into the opponent and keep them from taking cheap shots at the skill players. Like Schultz to Clarkie, Brown to the 80's teams. But in today's NHL that guy has to be able to play the game, and Shelley clearly can't. His salary is a waste of cap space, and his presence is a waste of a roster spot

  8. I see the very real possibility of Saturday's game being closer than it needs to be. No matter how down a team is, if you're making bad decisions in your end you're going to get beat. And there have been some horrible decisions made by veterans who should know better.

Too bad Carts won't be there to get his (ahem) welcome back to Philly! I have a feeling he wouldn't be as well received as Richards was a few weeks ago
