  1. @activestick

I agree with what others have said. Perhaps if the team wasn't decimated with injuries there could be a trade, but at this point I imagine that the starting price was Schenn, a 1st, + (high rated prospect; i.e. Cousins)

For how this season panned out, it may be best to draft high and re-tool this summer. There will be a lot of decisions and work to do in the off-season regarding Briere, Bryzgalov, etc.

For once I am truly excited that the Flyers did basically nothing at the trade deadline.

Oh I agree with you. I've dumped this season. I was looking at Yandle as the anchor for next year and beyond. We're still going to need one.

  2. Guys even if we get the #1 pick, we still need a top quality defenseman. We cant expect an 18 year old to step right in and be a big factor and play big minutes. No matter what happens we absoultely need a puck rushing ,young skilled defenseman on top of the defenseman we get in the draft. The Flyers have inuries to their defense EVERY year, we cant rely on Timmo to be the anchor of our defense and to be the only defenseman who generates any offense. A top young forward will be sacrificed for a defenseman.

I agree. We need an experienced top tier d'man to step right in. Even a #1 pick D'Man will be a 2-3 year project to develop into an anchor. Let's hope it works out.

  3. Since Holmgren has a history of making panic moves, how long do you think before he makes a panic move if the Flyers keep losing. Bob McKenzie of TSN stated last night that PK Subban and the Canadiens are 2 years and 2 million dollars apart on a new contract and said there is a possibility of Subban being traded. With that being said would Holmgren trade for Subban?

Yes, he should trade for him. We need a quality offensive D'Man.

Hartnell and Simmonds and even to an extent Schenn will fill that role (power forward). The team just seems like they are in a funk. I think Lavy needs to skate them till they puke. Seriously skate them hard. Set curfews, dining times, mandatory skates, etc. Be a real f'n ball buster. The players will find unity in hating Lavy. Once they start playing well, give them a little back. It's a shame that millionaires need to be treated like children, but in this case, they are playing like a bunch.

On a side note, and not trying to make excuses, It doesn't help that our first four opponents are actually decent squads.

Bryz held up enough to win last night, but they seemed to get too cutesy with the puck. What I have learned from the past 17-18 years of watching Marty, is that you pepper the $hit out of him and crash the net. I know it sounds easy and that I should leave the bountiful world of corporate finance for hockey coaching......anyhow.....

When he (marty) is on his game he is unstoppable. Defensive breakdowns happen, but maybe once or twice a game, not every other shift.

The problem starts and ends with Lavy. He needs to crush their spirits. I'd have Captain Giroux cleaning crappers at the WF Center, Harnell washing equipment, Bryzgalov parking cars, whatever it takes.

I feel the Marine just oozing out of my pours as I am typing.

    Hahaha. I hope you're right..

  5. Obviously this is the not the start we had all hope for. Anytime type of slow start we all knew could be disasterous in a shorten season. We are 0-3 and staring at 0-4 down a double barrel shotgun. So a few observations:

    1. This team misses Briere. No if and or buts about it.

    2. This team is gonna miss Jagr. Now could he hold up for another season, even a shorten oen is open for debate.

    3. For whatever reason this team starts off EVERY game flat. This has been their M.O. going back to last year.

    4. Bryz although not horrible, hs been average at best.

I'm sure there a few more. Please add on.

So how the hell does this get fixed? It has been mentioned / discussed that this a young team and just let them play and get the experience. If so do you bag the season and get in the running for this kid that might go #1 in the draft this spring?

Do you think Lavy is on the hot seat? If so...who do you bring in?

So as the title of my post suggests....Where do we go from here???

They need a goalie, defenseman and power forward.

  6. FA pool is not good this year. Timo is cream of the crop, and there's Regehr, and really that's about it. If Timo wants to return, I'd love to have him back for a few million.

Subban's ceiling is pretty high, and if it takes a guy like Coots to get it done, you wouldn't do it? I don't want to give him up either, but we don't have any top flight defensemen in the system, so the only way we'll get one during the Giroux window is to trade for one or sign a UFA.

As far as trading for a top pairing d-man, the only untouchable for me is Giroux. He's untouchable, period. But everyone else is fair game.

    I agree

  7. After watching the first two games, it seems obvious to me that we still need a stud d'man to throw us over the top. I wonder with Laughton looking very good to this point that either he or Couturier gets traded for Subban? I don't consider Subban a "stud d'man" but he is an upgrade skillwise, especially offensively.

I don't think an offer sheet would fly. Montreal would match. This will have to be a trade, if it happens.
