Three weeks ago, Spencer Knight signed his entry level contract with the Florida Panthers, leaving Boston College after two phenomenal seasons as starting goalie. Tonight, he made his NHL debut, wearing his BC mask and Team USA pads with his Panthers sweater. And boy, what a debut it was. Knight — who became the first goaltender born in the 2000s to appear in an NHL game — saved 33 of 34 shots to backstop the Panthers to a 5-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, earning first star of the night honors for his performance. While he didn’t have to stand on top of his head and received a lot of support from the team in front of him, he was there when they needed him to make saves and overall had a strong game. He remained calm and collected in the crease — of course, something we’re used to seeing from his time at BC. Additionally in going up against the Blue Jackets, he faced fellow BC alum Cam Atkinson, further proof of the success former Eagles continue to find in the NHL. t’s unclear if/when Knight will make his next NHL start, given that the race for the top spot in the Central Division is heating up — but if there’s one thing that’s evident, it’s that he is definitely prepared for this next step in his career, and it is very exciting! Brewin Flames Posted April 21, 2021 Author Share Posted April 21, 2021 Good for him.....watched him play a lot of college hockey and was worried he have to play on a terrible florida team that would ruin him, however, getting some draft picks and hiring Q has them heading in the right direction...
