Bergeron returns for 19th season, Krejci makes way back across the pond

Recommended Posts

Two moves that were pretty much a given occured today, as David Krejci after a one year sabbatical returned to the fold and Patrice Bergeron chose to continue his brilliant career in Boston for a 19th season.

Krejci signed a one year one million dollar deal with two million in easily reachable performance bonuses. Bergeron who IMHO is the ultimate team player of this generation signed a team sweetheart of a deal for one year at 2.5 million with another 2.5 million in performance bonuses that could make the contract worth 5 million.

Bergeron has a long history of taking less to stay with Boston was the first to call Pavel Zacha a month ago when Zacha was acquired from the Devils, telling him that he is joining a class organization and he is looking forward to seeing him in camp this fall. That was the first definitive proof that he was returning.

Boston will likely need to make a move to shed a bit of salary before the season opens as Zacha has his arbitration this week and the Bruins had only 4.8 million in cap space. Craig Smith is rumored to be on the way out.
