Pacioretty out six months with Achilles injury

Recommended Posts

Max Pacioretty recently donated to the Hurricanes by the Knights for essentially nothing will miss six months after undergoing surgery for a torn Achilles.

He has been seriously injury prone for years now but still produces at nearly a point a game pace. In three seasons he has played 158 games with 154 points. When he is in the lineup he is a solid performer, the problem is keeping him there.

This alleviates a potential cap problem for the Canes who after signing Necas to a two year extention were over a million over the cap, but leaves a big hole in the lineup. Kessel and Evan Rodrigues are both still available and both would be a good fit for a team that watched their offense fail in the postseason badly last year. They added Burns to replace DeAngelo and Pacioretty to replace Niederreiter and the hope is that Necas can step up his game to replace the departed Trocheck. They also lost spear carriers in Cole, Kase and Domi so organizational depth is a problem.

So in short the loss of Pacioretty is a rather big one although with his history in recent years should not come as a surprise to anyone. I really would not be shocked to see one or more of Sam Steel, Subban, Kessel or Rodrigues added in the next few days.
