Wings fall to 6, is there much of a difference?

The Wings entered last night with the games 4th worst record and as per usual were passed by a few teams dropping down to 6th in the upcoming draft. Still not a bad spot, I just wanted to take a few moments and compare the 4th pick in the draft over the past decade against the 6th to see how much of a dropoff to expect.

 

2018 Zadina by the Wings at 6, Tkachuk by Ottawa at 4. Tkachuk was brilliant this year as a future power forward, Zadina looks like he will be a fixture on the Wings top line for a decade. 

2017 number 4 was Cody Glass by Vegas, expected to be a top six center ala Barzal number 6 was Calle Makar who is expected to be a top tier blueliner for the Avalanche as soon as this postseason.

2016 Puljujarvi has been a bust at number 4 for the Oilers, Tkachuk for the Flames is a nasty scoring winger taken at 6.

2015 4 was Marner who is a superstar, 6 was Zacha with the Devils has been a bust.

2014 4 was Sam Bennett who is amild disappointment 6 was Virtanen who is a major one.

2013 4 was the brilliant d-man Seth Jones, 6 was the brilliant center Monahan. No advantage with either.

2012 4 was Griffin Reinhart who is an all time bust, 6 was Hampus Lindholm who has been a very underrated defenseman.

2011 4 was Adam Larsson who is an okay defensive defender, 6 was Zibenajad who is a near stud forward.

2010 Ryan Johanson at 4 is a solid 1C,  Brett Connelly at 6 is a decent 3rd liner who took a while to get going.

2009 Evander Kane scored 30 goals while leading the league in PIMs was number 4, OEL is a superstar defender for the Yotes.

 

 So a SLIGHT edge to the 4th pick,both piks have some busts, Marner, Tkachuk, Jones, Johanson and Kane are all stars or nearly so drafted in the 4th round, the other Tkachuk, Monahan, Zibenajad, Lindholm and OEL are right there or close as 6th rounders. both have busts too, Puljujarvi and Reinhart suck as 4th rounders,  Zacha and Virtanen have bombed as 6th rounders.

 

 So not that much of a difference between the two really, just bummed we didn't move up and get Hughes but really six isn't horrible.
