I was actually in favor of the Flyers signing Vokoun in the offseason. That way they had a reliable starter if Bob had a sophomore slump and Vokoun would be gone in a year or two to let Bob take over as starter. I think in the long run Bryz will be fine. The Flyers just overpaid big time because many wrongly blamed goaltending for last season's end of year meltdown.
The flyers certainly overpaid. And the goaltending wasn't the only problem last year. But they were never going to a win a cup with those goalies. Never.
-
Hard to argue that there is a system in place in PHX that helps goalies look better than they are. Smith would come here and be Tampa Smith, not PHX smith.

LOL @ Eskimo. Someone on PTPITN got mad at someone else for using Eskimo. Can't remember who though. The jist of it was that they were claiming it was derogatory.

I agree, but sometimes opportunities present themselves. I'd rather resign Carle personally (ideally for a little less than his current salary if possible), but I know that isn't a popular opinion here. I can't imagine a scenario where someone would trade a defenseman of similar quality for Carle - it makes no sense.
No chance they get carle for less. Someone will overpay for him, which is the main reason I am fine with them letting him go. Personally I think he already is overpaid.
-
It is pretty common knowledge that versteeg was injured his entire time here. Too bad he didn't get a fair shake.
-
It is very likely we are not planning to resign Carle (might as well get something for him before the rest of the league figures it out), and power forwards are a dying breed. One is on sale now, time to stock up.
Carle is a young good defenseman with a moderate cap hit, and a contract about to expire (which is good for a rebuilding team). I think he's an attractive option for Anaheim.
Hopefully they don't resign carle. But if you are going to trade him, trade him for another defenseman. The offense is no the problem. The two best defensemen on this team are old and breaking. They need to be replaced asap.
-
Why are we dumping defensemen for an underacheiving forward? In case people haven't noticed the flyers defense is a. not very good and b. riddled with injury. Dumping a top 4 guy for another forward means ANOTHER phantom playing in a position he isn't made for.

Rumors are the Rangers are the team that are making an offer for Ryan.
They are already a very strong team. That move would pretty much secure the division for them assuming he gets on track and they stay relatively healthy as a team.

Gonna put this here:

Meltzer basically reiterating what I have been saying about Mesz, coburn, and carle.

I am not sure why people are dogging these guys. They made this video for 80's night. I think it is hilarious. Good for them.
-
The only way he gets bought out is if there's a one-time no penalty buy out after CBA renegs. Otherwise, you're looking at a 10 year period where his contract is on the books, and because it's 35+, the full cap hit counts for the remainder of his original contract (i.e. next 5 years), so it really makes no sense to buy him out.
That is the context we are talking about. I mentioned that in my first post about buying him out. Clearly they won't buy him out otherwise.
-
Pronger was breaking and showing this was an awful contract before he became captain. I mean who didn't think that his ****ed up knee would relapse at some point?
No Desjardins issues. He just wasn't captain material.
-
I would agree, especially if there is a younger #1 FA defenseman floating around out there.
He is only going to get worse. If you are given a free out of a nightmare contract, you have to take it.
-
Homer said they hoped the knee would calm down while he was out with AIDS or whatever he has. It hasn't and surgery is the only option. Imagine how bad this contract is going to be in a couple years. ******* contract just started this year. Flyers better really do some thinking if they are allowed free buyouts with the new CBA. Pronger has to be a prime candidate for that.
-
In the 24/7 series, it really looked like the players had already tuned him out. In one particular tirade, a few key players aren't even paying attention to him.
It will be interesting to see what Hunter can do with these guys.
Yeah, you have to imagine that if Washington didn't turn their season around when they did last year, that he would have been fired already.
-
Per homer on twitter. How many of us saw this coming a mile away? This is easily homers worst contract. And it is going to **** them for many years to come.
-
Caps are gonna start rolling people.

I mentioned during game chat that the coyotes have a system that worked for bryz and that defense. I said that in response to you saying laviolette's system is partly to blame. We agreed in other words. Comparing players on paper is not going to work in this case. Many people have said how awful mesz has looked so far this year. And carle is ALWAYS lost when Pronger is out. Timonen has looked bad more often then not as well this year. The defense is a paper tiger.
-
Because you said that he was shaping up to be what you expected, which implies a goaltender with a >3.00 GAA and <.900 sv%.
I expected him to not be what he was in phx. That is what we are seeing. I believe it is because of a combo of an overrated blueline and him not being as good as advertised.
-
So, it is him, or the Flyers?
As in, if you put Quick or Price or Thomas back there, would it be any different?
Why can't it be both? I have stated many times that the defense is pretty weak. But he lets in softies a lot and is terrible at handling the puck.
-
He is shaping up to be exactly what I expected, unfortunately for the flyers...
-
All i care about is avoiding another work stoppage. Not so sure I will get my wish though.
-
It's good for hockey to have him back. Not so good for Eastern Conference teams, especially the Flyers.
Yep. Division is theirs to lose.

Kings scored huge on the Richards trade. Simmonds is nothing special and schenn appears to be easily injured. Though Richards is out and might have a concussion. Guess it is kind of a wash/flyers win since at least the flyers have one of those players playing.
