  1. Looks like Torts is splitting up the twins again tonite (like he did in Philly)...Hank with the Kesler line...Dank with the Santorelli line....which I think is pure genius,, & something Vigneault NEVER liked doing....so far Torts has done this twice (the other time vs the Flames) & in all instances, those split lines have scored & almost bang off the start of shift.....should be cool to see how that works out tonite against Sabres & the strong offense of Hodgson, et al.

  2. Thought this was a good sum-up of these 2 teams facing each other tonight & what we might expect. I still think we're gonna lose tonite, far too soon to know if Kesler is on the uprise yet from his invisible presence on the ice up until the last game with the Flyers (1 goal being an empty-netter, give me a break!).  And Miller has been a beast in net of late.  I'm not exactly holding my breath here. The Sabres are also 4-1-0 in their last 5 games against us and this is gonna be in their territory tonite.

An interesting note: Hodgson faces his old team & may have been some bad blood there when he left the Nucks.  Kassian faces his old team...let's see what he brings tonite.

    CANUCKS (4-3-0) at SABRES (1-6-1)

    TV: SNET-P, MSG-B, BELL TV

Season series: This is the first of two meetings this season. The Buffalo Sabres are 4-1-0 in their last five games against the Vancouver Canucks and will try to make it three wins in a row over the Western Conference club.

Big story: Buffalo finally got its first win of the season Tuesday at the New York Islanders and seeks to keep its recent dominance over the Canucks going Thursday. Vancouver can establish a three-game road winning streak with a victory at the Sabres.

    Team Scope:

Canucks: Vancouver has experienced a bit of a cold streak recently with losses in two of its last three games while averaging just 1.66 goals-for over that span. A 3-2 road win Tuesday against the Philadelphia Flyers has the potential to provide a much-needed spark as the Canucks continue a seven-game road trip, their longest of the season.

Coach John Tortorella executed an unconventional move in Philadelphia by placing twin forwards Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin on separate lines midway through the third period in an attempt to jump start the struggling offense. Henrik centered for Chris Higgins and Ryan Kesler, and those two scored the game-tying and game-winning goals, respectively.

"Listen, [the twins] play really well together, and it's very tough to split them up, but I think at times that's going to happen," Tortorella told NHL.com. "I think as you go through the game, those are calls we'll make, but it's awful tough to keep them away from one another because they play so very well together."

Sabres: Buffalo might not have many points in the standings, but it's been involved in six one-goal decisions out of its first nine games. The team's ability to stay close can be attributed to the stellar play of goaltender Ryan Miller, who has faced 40 or more shots three times already. Miller was solid again Tuesday with 41 saves against the Islanders through regulation and overtime. He stopped two of three attempts in the shootout to earn his first win of the season.

"It gives us a chance to feel good for a little while and see if we can build. The key now is to build,” Miller said.

Who's hot: Henrik Sedin has been held scoreless just once this season. He's registered a goal and eight assists over seven games. … For Buffalo, center Cody Hodgson has at least a point in six of his last seven games, totaling one goal and five assists over that span.

Injury report: Forward Alexandre Burrows is out with a lower-body injury for Vancouver, while defenseman Alexander Edler will serve the last of his three-game suspension Thursday for an elbowing incident Oct. 10 against the San Jose Sharks. … For the Sabres, forward Zemgus Girgensons left Tuesday's game after taking a puck in the face in the first period; he didn't return and is questionable. Forward Patrick Kaleta was assessed a 10-game suspension by the NHL on Tuesday for a hit against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 10 and is eligible to return Nov. 7, having already served two games while awaiting the disciplinary hearing. Defenseman Nikita Zadorov has not played a game this season and is questionable with a hand injury. Forwards Ville Leino (ribs) and Corey Tropp (jaw) remain out indefinitely.

  3. Oh yah, I meant more like if you were able to talk to a guy at the shop, you could make sure the venting was good enough for your noggin...but not if they don't have what you're looking for.

The gold 'n purple somehow reminds me of the 'artist formerly known as Prince'...or whatever he's called these days! lol!

  4. (Sorry, yave, I just couldn't resist using that line! )

Tim Thomas will be facing his old Big Bad Broons for the first time on Thurs nite when they play in Florida. Thomas has missed the past 4 games with the Panthers due to a groin injury he received during the Philly game on Oct 8th.  It will be an interesting, if not strange, sight to see him in a Panther's uniform as he faces off against his old teammates, who will no doubt, be pelting at him with everything they've got.  It will be even funnier, when they get in his kitchen in front of the net, where he has been so apt to get fiery with his opponents. I can't say I'm a Broons' fan, but this should be fun to watch!

SUNRISE, Fla. — Tonight we’ll witness something we couldn’t have really imagined seeing less than two years ago. Tim Thomas will be in another National Hockey League uniform — the Florida Panthers’ — facing off against the Bruins.
Milan Lucic said this won’t be like any other game.
“It will be (strange),” Lucic said after the Bruins practice at the BB & T Center. “All those years shooting on him in practice and whatnot, I think it will be fun to finally get to shoot on him in a game. I’m sure he’s looking forward to it as well. I’m sure he’s happy to be back in the NHL playing and I’m sure he’s found a new home in here in Florida.”
Tuukka Rask was his understudy for much of the previous three years before Thomas forced the Bruins into trading him by not reporting to training camp and opting instead for a one-year sabbatical last season.
Thomas’ departure opened the door for Rask to finally blossom. Rask didn’t expect to be facing his old friend, but that’s the business.
Said Rask: “I never thought that we’d be playing against each other, but I’m glad he’s making his comeback and proving people wrong again. I hope he does well.”
Rask said all he cares about is winning games right now, and playing against Thomas is not weighing very heavily on his mind. But he did offer to spice things up.
“Maybe we’ll fight or something. We’ll see,” Rask quipped.
Coach Claude Julien sounded as though he’d like to get this reunion over with. At 3-2, both losses coming in the past three games, he has other things with which to concern himself.
Said Julien: “When you lose a guy who is well respected and liked in the dressing room, you’ve got to turn the page and we’ve got to do the same thing here with Timmy. . . . We’ve got to put the past aside for this game and look forward to the job that we came here for and that’s win a hockey game.”
After starting Florida’s first three games, Thomas missed the last four with a groin injury suffered Oct. 8 in Philadelphia. But he’s been practicing and, yesterday afternoon, the Panthers tweeted that he will start tonight. At the Panthers practice facility in Coral Springs, Thomas declined to speak to reporters through a team spokesman, saying he’d speak after the game.
It was a long, wonderful, strange trip that Thomas had with the Bruins, the only organization that gave him a chance back in the 2005-06 season. They even had to get him through waivers to get him up to parent club from Providence. Thomas went on to become the best goalie on the planet for a time. He led the B’s to their first Stanley Cup in 39 years in 2011 and won the Vezina Trophy twice with the B’s.
But after the Cup season, Thomas’ relationship with the Bruins became strained. He rankled the team’s brass by refusing to take part in the team’s visit to the White House over personal, political issues. Then after the 2011-12 season ended, at age 38, he told the Bruins that he would sit out the next season. Having already collected $17 million of a four-year $20 million contract, it wasn’t clear if he’d ever return to the NHL.
The B’s moved on. They got the Islanders to take his contract off their hands in February, after the Islanders chose not to renew his contract without Thomas ever playing a game for them, the free agent signed with the Panthers.
Lucic said he has no issues with Thomas.
“For me personally, I just think as a teammate, he’s everything you wanted as far as he came to play every night. He did bring that competitive edge all the time,” Lucic said. “I’m not going to say anything bad about him because I got to spend five years with him and I got to see him play at the best level that almost any goalie played in those five years. As a teammate, that’s all you can ask from your goaltender. He was a big part of us winning and a big part of us having success over those years.”
Lucic expects to see the full fire-breathing Thomas tonight.
“Regardless of how it ended or not, I think there’s still something special with this organization and him just because of the Stanley Cup, two Vezinas, the Conn Smythe,” Lucic said.
Lucic & Co. have played many former teammates over the years, but this is different.
“This is the first time that it’s a starting goalie,” he said “It’s the first time you’re going to get to go against someone you shot on in practice 100, 200, 300, I don’t know how many times. This one is definitely a different situation than all the other ones just because of that and also because he was such a big part of this team for so many years. Both sides, I think, are just looking forward to it.”
Reflecting back to their practices together, Lucic said there are certain spots where he could beat Thomas, but he doesn’t believe that experience will help.
“You look back and think of the saves he made in games where he was out of position and he’d make his way over and all that type of stuff,” said Lucic. “For a scouting report, I really don’t know what to expect. A game is much different than practice, but I guess I’m going to have to go on instinct.”
As a guy who spends quite a bit of time in front of the net, Lucic might expect to see some of the trademark Thomas snarl.
“We’ll see. He’s never a guy that shies away. I’m sure he’s going to have fun and bring his competitive edge,” said Lucic.
Told that he might be a little tougher to knock down than one of the Sedin twins, Lucic laughed and said, “And my response will be a little different, too.”

  5. Yah, I was gonna say you can always shave your head to keep cooler but you already have it shaved! :P   If you only order your helmets online then I guess it's hard to try it out & return it if it doesn't work out.  As opposed to getting them from the store & being able to get the sales guy's advice, etc.  But I suppose also, if you're getting the custom colours, then it has to be ordered.  I never found helmets way back yonder in time to be hot either but I didn't play with it on enough I suppose...

So what colour is your jersey gonna be? Gold and....purple??  You know we're gonna need pics of you in full dress uniform, right??!  ;)

  6. I'd say at least 3 games if not more. He isn't considered 'repeat offender' by NHL but that's only cuz it was 18 mths ago for his last controversial hit (also on Sharks), which I think should still be considered, it's already on his record. When he played for us, he was always instigating problems for the other team, a real pest & would try to get away with things, which drove me nuts cuz he was causing us so many penalties. I still don't really like this hit, whether Boyle was already stumbling before the impact or not...it's too close to 'boarding' to me, which is why it's illegal, cuz bad accidents like this can happen.

  7. (The picture is still upside down when I click on it.)  I like it but maybe give bunny a logo on her front? Or is she not supposed to be wearing a jersey? What about a bunny logo on bunny? :P lol...Or a Blues note?  What's your team gonna be called?

  8. heh, you should see the 5 hole wraparound goal Emery let in vs the wings :)

Then again, he is not elite.

lol...thx Joe, no I did not see that one...but nothing, really nothing, beats scoring on your own net....in YOUR power play!  Worst own goal of our franchise....

  9. Very impressed with how in such little time my endurance has increased dramatically.

Enjoy every single moment of this while you can, Tret! Not all of us are in that position! LOL!  ;)

And now for the second day update: one would think a bank Holiday (Columbus Day in America) would get some bodies in the rink; think again!!! Two showed up. But we ran drills, not a terrible thing!!! He just wore sweats, gloves, and helmet; I was fully kitted out. I need to get used to the mobility limits of a full set of pads, anyway. And I still fall over a few times per session, so I definitely need pants on!!!

I don't know when the next time I get out in full gear, but I can't wait!!!

Good for you bud for getting out today, anyway! I forgot it's Columbus Day down yonder...Thanksgiving for us up here! {gobble, gobble!}  :P Yum...good eats!!

  10. Wow, a Bruins fan sticking up for a Nucks' player? Gosh, thanks, man! :D ...I totally hear what you're saying on your description of that collision, I thought exactly the same thing when they first showed the instant replays when it happened in the game. But after looking at it a few more times, I did notice that Edler tilts his head just a bit to the right, just before impact, which looks like he had some intent to hit him. The major negative against him in this instance, is that Edler has a bit of a history of these kinds of hits...that combined with the fact that they are cracking down so much on any hint of head contact, is what worked against him.  Granted this case is not as obvious as other intentional head contacts, or even certain brutal 'boarding' calls, but I guess they are wanting to crack down & send a message.  I would want it to work the other way as well, meaning, I don't want our players getting their heads contacted by other players either, so hopefully, rulings like this will weed out such plays.

  11. were still outnumbered 20,000 to 2 so we just clapped quietly to ourselves. The fans around us were good natured.

(Love your thread title btw..lol. Makes me think of Good Will Hunting!)  Wow, really the Bos fans were good natured? Maybe they just really hate Vancity fans...haha.  I was able to just catch most of the 3rd period today & I have to say...Wow...what a game!..hockey at it's finest...yes, I did notice the Wings colllapse back nicely & blocking shots from Broons...great to see them helping out Gustafsson like that...tho' from what bit i saw of him, he was making some really nice saves himself, kept calm & collected, even once Bos started on the attack to climb back from the deficit 3-1. Just some really nice positioning he kept. One of my fave moments was when the announcer said something like 'Wow, Bergeron could have really taken Datsyuk hard to the boards there, but out of respect for him (or too dangerous from that angle), he didn't,' ....hmm, that was interesting but I think Bergeron is one of my least hated Broons, he seems pretty decent & I guess that move proved it.  That was pretty stand-up of him when he could've made a dirty play.

not named Z or Pavel who don't qualify for this category as they are not human.

HAHA!  So a nice road trip for you guys...that's pretty cool & nice this time of year too. Vermont's gotta be pretty gorgeous now too. Wouldn't mind doing that some day. I've never driven through the eastern/N eastern US...wanna do it during the Fall.  :)

  12. @bunnyman  Haha...that's funny cuz this afternoon I was seriously, SERIOUSLY thinking about switching it up on my avatar today!!  I honestly can't see ANY of the elite goalies making that mistake Lu made last nite...to me he's the netminder, which means, you keep your eyes on the puck at ALL times, no matter WHO has the puck!!  Unbelievable. I'm giving it some serious thought. Maybe watch for my change-up coming your way.....!   ;)

  13. @OccamsRazor  Well, some were saying Hertl needed to keep his head up & see who was coming & that Edler was mainly aiming to get the puck, but I think Edler was suspended cuz his head was tilted to the right on the impact and probably mostly cuz of his previous controversial hits. This hit with MacArthur hardly looks like much, so I'm wondering if it's a compounded injury after Edler's hit.  We face the Sharks twice more next month, and won't THEY have Edler's number!!

  14. The circus came to town tonite, didn't ya know?  Yah, it was held at Rogers Arena. The only thing that was missing were the clown suits & floppy shoes. The clowns elected to keep Nucks' uni's on and wore skates instead. So I guess you could say it was really the Ice Capades. (I think @ruxpin got his wish, we were just missing the official Disney characters, although I think they were all imitating Goofy tonite!  "Gawrsh!"   )

We were on a power play...ahem, let me make this completely clear...WE were on a power play, about 4 mins left in the 2nd period, vs Montreal, we were tied 1-1, were dominating this game, and imo, thought we had a good chance at a win to bolster our nearly obliterated self-esteem (after the recent Shark attack), and then........and then.........oh bloody 'ell, just watch the freakin' video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ProfA-NJcJ8

I tell ya'...Jonathan Quick's got NUTHIN' on OUR circus act!  :o
