  1. I called this series wrong. Sharks are playing well this year. A departure from the past it looks.

I am as surprised as anyone. I thought they would win, but never in my wildest dreams did I think Hertl and Torres would be this effective upon return. That and Nieto's gelling with Marleau based on their speed was totally unforseen by me. I thought Nieto would need a few years to earn top 6 status.

  2. @pilldoc

Thanks for the updates!  Great idea.

    - except to add salt to the wound as I know I did a horrible job choosing my team. ;)

Well I'm glad Stamkos was taken before me as he was on my list. and I still have no idea why I chose Quick.

I was kind of wondering why a few people took sharks and kings. Guaranteed 1 will be out in the first round.

Just glad I snagged pavelski and Boyle because they play every sharks PP

  3. Series  St Louis 2        Chicago 1

and? the hawks were down 3-1 to the kings last year, who you were just praising for "best defense in the league and great goaltender"

They ended up coming back and killing them.

Chicago knows how to come back. 2 cups in the past few years is testament to that

  4. By the rules of the day the goal should not have counted.  They know it and even Hull knows it.  The 75 team was far better.  But Hasek was a far better goalie.  I believe it being almost 3 am on a hot June night played into it.  the refs were tired and they wanted it over.

To me that Cup belongs to Quebec City.  The one Colorado inherited.  Quebec Nordkiques should have been the Cup winners

Oh those hockey arenas in June. I'm sure the refs wanted to get outside where it was cool

  5. cooke played for the canucks for a number of years, and he was a trouble making coward.  he would start trouble, then as soon as the linesman

arrived he would eagerly snuggle up to him, then yap back at the other player, but always keeping the linesman between he and other player.

he 'never' ever fought with anyone, would always turtle or just look for linesman.

after he left canucks he got worse and began to get dirtier, then the savard incident, which is the reason for rule change.

then the pittsburg incident. and i'm forgetting others.

this series is very very fast, the young talented guys, on both teams are amazing, and i could see cooke getting more and more riled up, as he

couldn't quite keep up with that speed.

throw the book at him, he has taken a wonderful young player out of the game, intentionally, this cannot be tolerated.  cooke has done a

service for his own team, has given them a little bit of a better opportunity to win, but i'm sure his own team will never thank him for that,

they will just turn the other way, i'm sure they are very disappointed in him.

Yup. Cooke was always a bit of a hit and hide guy. Tough until the bell rung, but then embarrassed himself

  6. Instead of my usual synopsis, I would like to share my predictions for tonight in the form of a photograph I took 2 minutes whipping up :)

Hockey Junkie, I think you will appreciate the accuracy of this photograph!

    Everyone else, enjoy

I need to do photo predictions more often. This one turned out surprisingly accurate.

    For Next game, I think....

  7. You are ignoring the next 4 periods when he stoned them.  And then, you are ignoring Quick's meltdown.  Your almighty Quick that was supposed to be better than Miller.

Our almighty Quick. 4 days ago you were saying he is almost as good as miller and that the sharks didn't have a chance.

Miller pretty much had a lounge chair out that game as the blues in your own word "skated circles around chixago"

Always good to hoe from the other row

  8. Joe, not defending him, because he was a douche, but you know that the hit I think you're refering to was not what ruined Neely's career,

This particular hit?   Simply wreckless and unnecessary.  With his "history", he's going down for a few games.

I remember that series like it was yesterday

    http://www.complexmag.ca/sports/2013/07/most-unsportsmanlike-acts-in-sports-history/ulf-samuelsson-hit

Samuelsson hit Neely twice in that series. The first hit ruined his mobility for the rest of the series(Looked like this hit), and the second one in game 6 put him on the shelf for years(The second hit, Neely was going to crush him, and he stuck his knee out with force while ducking the hit that it smashed into Neely's thigh again), and ultimately ended his career years later.

Samuelsson was kneeing everyone back then. There is a rather funny video of Trottier and Stevens Heckling Bellows after he went down to a knee on knee, but scored on the PP.

Pissed me off because the Bruins were up 2 games to 0 and were winning game 3 until that hit. Then Dumbarse Milbury decided it would be a good idea to add a bunch of goons to the lineup who could not play hockey to retaliate.

  9. The last game to me was a total fluke.  The Kings should show up and get back in this series.  My biggest concern is Quick and Murray's ability to "get to his team" mentally.

A fluke? it was coaching staff using surgical exposing of the slower LA defensemen and East/West movement on Quick.

I fully expect with Sutter controlling the matchups to have a much tighter game 3, but our coaches, who I have been critical of in the past, did a great job getting the right guys out and gameplanning.

  10. I agree 100% with you.  My issue is the absolute STUPIDITY of the "18 month rule" and the slate supposedly being washed clean.  There is no way in hell, that happens.

So stop with the charade, and just hammer people when they cross the line.

I know. That's is what boggles my mind.

I was agreeing with you, but I realize my post probably sounded different. I was just trying to post incredulity

  11. that's a great point. They said "4-6 weeks" and he was barely off the ice! I don't pretend to know what it means - whether there's some conspiracy going on - but it was strange to hear them come out with that diagnosis so quickly.

Torn MCL. Same thing that happened to hertl when Brown kneed him.

Hertl was out much longer than 4-6 weeks though.

  12. Here's the thing that is completely ridiculous.

By definition, Matt Cooke is NOT a repeat offender.  It's been greater than 18 months since his last suspension(if what I'm reading is correct).  SO...by the league's own definition/policy/standard/historical track record, how does he get more than 5 games?  Again, applying the logic/definition of 1st time offender the NHL has devised.

This is by NO means a defense for Cooke.  Granted, the players injury comes in to play as well, but we've seen equally nasty hits/plays with injury, and not a 12-15 game type suspension.

What a joke the league's discipline policy is(yes, I know, redundant statement we've all said 1000 times before).

Or am I missing something?  Other than....he's a repeat offender, but technically we won't CALL him that.  But we'll discipline him as one...

So because he has been clean for 18 months, we should ignore his previous history of intentionally injuring players? This is a guy who has ended careers in the past. Incidents should stick with him until the day he hangs up his skates.

In everyday life, if you had a history of aggravated assault, but have been clean for 18 months, I guarantee you the judge is still going to weigh in past incidents in your punishment because of the need to send a message based on threat level.

And I would say the same thing if it was Raffi torres
