I thought the Flyers had a chance to win the first pick, too, until last night when I found and read this article.

https://thehockeynews.com/news/nhl-draft-lottery-day-set-what-are-the-odds#:~:text=A team participating in the, receives the first overall pick.

They can only draft as high, as the #2 pick.

I stand corrected.  When I searched for the rules, neither of those links came up.  That’s what I get for relying on ESPN and their incomplete reporting!

Flyers defeat Washington in regulation (Tues)

Canadiens defeat Detroit in regulation (Tues)

Islanders defeat Pittsburgh in regulation (Wed)

    …then Flyers are IN

    [Cue Beatles “Help!”]

NOTE:  In this scenario, Flyers and Capitals would be equal in the first 3 tiebreakers!  (Both 31 Regulation wins, both 35 wins excluding shootouts, both 39 total wins.). 4th tiebreaker would be Flyers earning 4 pts (to the Caps 3 pts) in the three games played between the two this season.  Amazing that Philly still has this shot to advance.

The bold part is not correct.  Game one vs the Caps, (OT win for the Flyers), would get thrown out so they would be tied in this category, too.

    5. The greater number of points earned in games against each other among two or more tied clubs.
For the purpose of determining standing for two or more Clubs that have not played an even number of games with one or more of the other tied Clubs, the first game played in the city that has the extra game (the 'odd game') shall not be included.

On to the 6th tiebreaker which the Flyers would win.  Flyers are -25, Caps are -38.

    6. The greater differential between goals for and against (including goals scored in Overtime or awarded for prevailing in Shootouts) for the entire regular season. This figure is reflected in the DIFF column.

Wayne Simmonds was a text book Flyer. The guy had skills, speed, and could tune up anyone who had the courage to challenge him. With the exception of Rod Brindamour, he is and always will be my all time favorite flyer .

I just don’t have it in me to root for them to lose even in the long run if it helps them sorry but that’s just me

also I don’t see them dropping low enough to make a difference with the teams below them to make a difference.

Where the hell has this team been since the trade deadline. I hate the devils almost as much as I hate the bruins and the rags. Good win and pretty sure it didn’t make a difference in the draft order.

I agree with just about everything you posted today.  It’s like you’re reading my mind.

Sigh. The question is what haven't they done.

Trade Seeler. No justifiable reason to keep him.

Trade Laughton. I know this one is something you can get behind.

Trade Atkinson. This one is harder, so maybe they tried.

Trade Coots.  I suspect they tried because they didn't name him captain until after the deadline. I think.

Trade Deslauliers  i know, limited no trade, but he has to submit a 20-team list.  You still have 2/3 of the league. Find a dance partner, Danny Jones.

Trade Garnet Hathaway why? Some idiot GM somewhere still believes he's a plus. Take advantage.

What did they do that contradicts this?

Erik Johnson in the moment, at the time, there was legitimately no reason outside of the marketing department in charge of manipulating the clinically brain dead fans among us that this was remotely a good idea let alone necessary. This was brain damage massaging the oxygen-deprived brain damaged imbeciles.

    Trade all things!  😂

He was the 30th ranked goalie in a 23 team lesser league. Basically, he should be Erssons backup, who should actually be a backup

What do you mean?  He isn’t the second coming of Bernie Parent?!? 😂

He is a large human with a feel good story to finally get out of Russia.  Sure, he made a nice save on Barzal a couple games ago but I’ve seen beer league goalies do that, too.  I get a little nervous when I see the other team get a good scoring opportunity.

I’m with you.  He hasn’t impressed me
