If he was, I hope he's learned from it.

I don't know that I think Danny needs to buy a new pair of pants though.

Torts wasn't digging the Kevin Hayes experience. After an early healthy scratch; He demoted him to the third line, then he moved him off the pivot, then he stapled his ass to the bench. Kevin Hayes wasn't / isn't in the plans. So there wasn't much leverage for the Briere when it came to extracting an asset for a player that was clearly not wanted by his team.

So a 6th and clearing 3.5.aav of cap space is about what many expected. I thought Danny could maybe get a little more or retain less, I think Hayes at 4. aav is market price. The majority of our denizens just wanted Hayes gone, and mission accomplished, so I don't think the pitchforks are coming for Briere yet.

Everyone in the league knew Fletcher overpaid when he signed Hayes to that contract. As for Briere, maybe he could have gotten more but at the end of the day he got rid of one of the many ****ups that Fletcher made. This year Briere is going to do what Hextall had to do when he replaced Holmgren,  clean up the ******** left behind by the previous GM. It seems Briere has a plan and now has to execute it and hopefully for Flyers fans it will lead back to the promise land one day.

I had a notification on my phone saying Hart was traded...I was like what?   It was posted I believe around the same time as the Provorov trade saying we traded Hart to Edmonton.    So either someone got a big scoop or they are out to lunch.

    https://www.hockeypatrol.com/BREAKING-Flyers-Trade-Franchise-Cornerstone-Carter-Hart-243854

If they're going to trade Hart, it better not be to an Eastern Conference team that he could come back and haunt the Flyers for the next 10 years. I'd be ok if he was traded to Edmonton.

As for the Provorov trade, Briere did a really good job getting picks. It's a good start and hopefully he keeps going.

I'll just watch a real hockey team, again, with my junior team.

If they get rid of Hayes, Deangelo, Risto and bring in some young guys, I'll start watching again. I have no problem with watching a rebuild. If they bring in more overpriced free agents, I may just stop watching the Flyers altogether. First time in my life I've despised my favorite team.

I think a lot of Flyers fans will start watching the Flyers again if they get rid of Hayes, DeAngelo, Risto and play young guys. The fans realize it will be a long rebuild if they actually do a real rebuild.

My issue with this is we're always chasing that guy at top dollar. Will he make us better? Sure. He'll also help us get a worse pick the next year. I'd rather build slow and stockpile young assets myself. Chasing a Matthews is the way we've always done it.

Meanwhile, he had 2 assists in the 2nd round, first time he's ever been there.

While ex-not good enough for us Flyers Bobrovsky Cousins and Gudas all we personally responsible of eliminating him and the Leafs.

Yes one of Holmgren/Snider's brilliant moves to trade Bobrovsky to make room for Bryzgalov and his 9 year $51 million dollar contract. What would have become of Silent Bob if he stayed in Philly. Hopefully Briere rebuilds the right way and Flyers upper management stays the hell out of Briere's way.

I'm perfectly fine with Jonsey as a player and an announcer. We'll see how he does as an executive - he and Danny have the chance now.

I am perfectly happy to "wait and see" while also acknowledging the striking "old way" the "new direction" has taken.

But maybe the Comcast Spectacor exec in his first position hiring a former player as President of Hockey Operations in his first position to oversee a former player as General Manager in his first NHL position will work out fine.

I agree I'm also willing to give Jones and Briere a chance. Maybe possible candidates outside the organization don't want the Flyers POHO and GM, who knows. Both guys know the passion of the fans when they put a decent product on the ice. Let's see if the new CEO of Comcast will put Clarke, Barber and Holmgren out to the pastures, we can only hope.

I would love for the hockey luck to work in the Flyers favor unlike in 2007 with this club and the Flyers end up with the 1st pick and Chicago to end up with the 7th pick.

All i want for Christmas this year.

For once something work in the Flyer's favor for a change...it would help me get over losing out on Kane back then and ending up with the Floating draft pick killer.

Yes if there ever was a hockey god, then the Flyers ending up with the 1st overall over Chicago would be justice for getting screwed out of Patrick Kane in 2007.

This move would require an very good offer that moves the needle for me to even consider.

My thoughts exactly, it would have to be an offer that blows Briere's mind not to consider it. As Flyerscanuck pointed out in another post, goalie trades don't usually generate big returns. So in order for Hart to be traded it would have to be a blockbuster deal like Toronto pulled off with Calgary a long time ago where lots of players were traded. Build from the goalie out and Hart is a good starting point for the rebuild.

Adding Matthews and losing Hayes seems like a win/win. :hocky:

Hart is dangerously close to being the next Carey Price who last I looked has won bubkus and been in two Finals.

That's my issue, why the hell would the Flyers trade Hart who is only 24 years old. Even if the rebuild takes 5 years, Hart would be coming into his prime as a goalie at 29. This rebuild should have happened starting 5 years ago but Fletcher and the rest of the brain trust didn't think it was needed.

Danny Briere: Flyers’ Interim GM Says ‘Rebuild,’ Welcomes the Challenge

    https://phillyhockeynow.com/2023/03/12/philadelphia-flyers-danny-briere-interim-gm-welcomes-the-challenge-dave-scott-chuck-fletcher-general-manager-flahr-rebuild/

As always feel free to add your comments complaints whines all are welcome.

And let's be clear I have no real set expectations except to get back to playing good team hockey and to strive for icing the best team they can on a nightly basis.

Not even going to guess how much changes from now till the start of next season.

My crystal ball is in the shop.

    The floor is yours!

Briere is saying all of the right things, so lets see what happens. Will Briere get to do what he needs to do or will it be the same old thing.

    https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/35842502/interim-gm-daniel-briere-says-flyers-quick-fix

Philadelphia Flyers interim general manager Daniel Briere acknowledged the team needs a multiyear rebuild as he campaigns to earn the job on a permanent basis.

"I don't have a problem with the interim tag. I think [ownership is] going to take the proper time to evaluate who should be full-time in that position. I see myself staying here and being part of the future. I hope they believe in me as well. It feels that way," he said.

"There's no doubt in my mind that this isn't a quick fix. It's going to take a little while," said Briere.

Briere was noncommittal when asked about how the team's senior advisers fit into his vision for the Flyers. Former NHL general managers Paul Holmgren, Bobby Clarke and Dean Lombardi, as well as former coach Bill Barber, have come under scrutiny for how much influence they have behind the scenes with Flyers ownership.

"I have a lot of respect for those guys for what they've accomplished in their career both on and off the ice," Briere said. "I've been in this position for 48 hours. I've had a quick chat with them. But at this point, that's all that's happened. So we'll see moving forward happens there."

Briere also said he studied the general managers for whom he played, including Holmgren, Buffalo's Darcy Regier and Colorado's Joe Sakic.

Well at least Briere has no problem saying the "R" word-- rebuild! Now we'll see if he is allowed to do that without any interference from the choir boys! It's nice to see Fletcher gone!

How far they have fallen. Maybe all this is karma for giving up on two home grown kids just because they had an issue partying and a addiction to pills.

Shipped them out of town instead of helping them.

Man I miss how exciting this season was regardless of them winning it all.

It was good hockey - to me.

Yes I remembering travelling from Sudbury, Ontario to Philly for game 4 of the 2010 Stanley Cup finals against Chicago, the atmosphere in the building that night was unbelievable and unforgettable. It's sad what this organization has become.

Next year's headlines will be "Hart demands a trade." and "Hart wants out of Philly". Mark my words, and I don't blame him, one bit. The Flyers can't have nice, or good, things.

I agree it wouldn't surprise me either. Hart has one more year on his deal then he's an RFA which he could sign the qualifying offer to make sure he's an UFA the year after that. Then it will be bye bye Hart, he'll sign elsewhere.

Good to see around again @Lindbergh31….. ignore him… been arguing with him for the past 10 days. He likes talking from both sides if his mouth.

Lol, I've been coming here reading the posts and posting things from time to time but as I see on here there's lots of frustrated Flyers fans and with good reasons. It's sad to see this once proud organization end up like this because an incompetent GM and a front office who doesn't give a ****. We finally have a good goalie in Hart and they're doing **** to build around him in order to take advantage and build a contender to compete for the cup. It's ********, the sad part is Flyers fans are watching the Rangers, Devils and Penguins contend.

I also think what happened yesterday could be a good thing. Let's look at 2 scenarios.

    1. Fans are all anticipating JVR gets dealt. Chuck unloads him at the deadline for a 4th rounder. Fans ease up. The team gets loose and they win a few games down the stretch. The flyers end up drafting at somewhere around 10th because of the meaningless games they won, and they have a 4th round pick that's not going to do anything to improve the team. The clueless team at Comcast says "chuck got it done and the fans seemed to have calmed down a little". They give chuck another year as GM.

    2. Yesterday happens. Fans are irate. JVR is still on the team. He makes the team worse as it is, but now he's disgruntled because chuck says nobody want him. He doesn't want to push himself too hard, Hayesy gets even more lazy, and the entire team is already packing it in. They lose almost all their remaining games and move up in the draft lottery. Nobody is attending games, and the few that do attend are chanting "fire chuck...fire chuck." Comcast is tired of being embarrassed so they finally fire him. The flyers get a top 3 lottery pick and they have a new GM to make the pick and move some bad contracts in the off-season.

    I can hope right?

The problem is not only Chuck has to go but the "Senior hockey advisors" have to go too. Flyers fans have been wanting a teardown and a full rebuild for the last 5 years at least, Hextall had the right approach but he had ego issues. Also the "Senior hockey advisors" didn't agree with Hextall's plan and wanted a quick fix like always. Flyers fans aren't dumb, they know what this organization needs to do to get back to being a regular contender every year, the problem is the Flyers front office has no ****** idea or aren't willing to do that because the only thing they care about is the profit or bottom line for Comcast.

can you just accept the fact that this team is rebuilding or did you expect this trade deadline to give us game changers for next year?

Are you seriously kidding? This team isn't rebuilding, Fletcher and the rest of the so-called brain trust have no idea how to build team from a rebuild to a contender. There are in a constant state of La, La land, spinning around doing nothing at all. This organization under this leadership is royally ****ed and a total disgrace to the legacy that Ed Snider built when it comes to this hockey team.

usually with Fletcher no move is the best move he can make.

Maybe his bosses told him that his days are numbered in Philly so they’re keeping his hands off the Flyers. But that would be too good to be true.

That maybe the case but the bosses should tell him to at least get rid of JVR and Hayes.

He should have been fired for every single move he's ever made!

Better yet Fletcher should never been hired in the first place! I'll be pissed if he doesn't trade anyone later tonight or tomorrow. There is no plan with this management group, the organization is the shits. The only things will change is if the fans stay away and the Flyers play to an empty arena. On a side note, the Barrie Colts are looking good this year where as the Sudbury Wolves keep ****** up (Sudbury management is like the Flyers management).
